Listener comments!

  9:02am
Billy Jam:

This is a very special event in celebration of the greatness that was (and hopefully will soon again be) KUSF San Francisco radio on the FM dial. The station was kicked off the air on Jan 18th during DJ Schmeejay's show so I thought it only fitting that DJ Schmeejay should begin today's radio broadcast by picking up from where he was so rudely interrupted by the plug pullers at the 90.3FM transmitter during his last radio show.
  9:13am
Billy Jam:

Live from Amoeba Music San Francisco noon to 3pm (local Cali time) which is 3pm to 6pm back in NJ. This radio show is broadcasting not only on WFMU but also is being carried live by radio stations all across the country in an unprecedented show of solidarity for the unacceptable treatment of KUSF radio. Joining WFMU today in broadcasting are WITC Cazenovia, NY 88.9FM, KXLU Los Angeles 88.9FM, KFJC Los Altos Hills 89.7FM, KDVS Davis 90.3FM, KZSU Stanford 90.1FM, WXYC Chapel Hill NC 89.3FM, WREK Atlanta GA 91.1FM, WCBN Ann Arbor Michigan 88.3FM, KVRX Austin TX 91.7FM, KALX Berkeley 90.7FM, & KRFP Moscow Idaho (Free Radio Moscow) 92.5FM. Each of these FM stations will also live stream the broadcast on their respective websites - as will kusfarchives dot com. There will also be a live video stream today c/o Yowie Dot Com. KUSF DJs Irwin, DJ Schmeejay, Harry D, Jantine B, Carolyn, and Stereo Steve will spin half hour music sets (give or take a few minutes depending on mic breaks) while myself and WFMU's Gaylord Fields (coincidentally out in the Bay Area this week) will host the event - doing the legal IDs at top of each hour. Thanks for tuning in and supporting the fight to SAVE KUSF. If you are in the Bay Area git yer ass over here to Amoeba Music on Haight Street in San Francisco up until 3pm local CA time. Thank-you!

That may be Hortense Ellis but this song is not "What Do I Have to Do to Prove My Love To You." It's "Mojo Hannah," and it was also recorded by Marvin Gaye on his very first live LP; and by Tami Lynn, in a studio version produced by Jerry Wexler. If I'm correct, somebody might want to correct the playlist entry.
  4:19pm

THANK YOU ALL for your contributions to this historic event. Thank-you to all the radio stations including WFMU (special thanks to FMU GM Ken Freedman), WITC Cazenovia, KXLU Los Angeles, KFJC Los Altos Hills, KDVS Davis, KZSU Stanford, WXYC Chapel Hill, WREK Atlanta, WCBN Ann Arbor, KVRX Austin, KALX Berkeley, KRFP Moscow Idaho, KSCU Santa Clara, and KXSC Los Angeles. Thanks to the KUSF DJs in Exile who spun sets: DJ Schmeejay, Irwin, Harry D, Jantine B, Carolyn, and Stereo Steve. Also thanks to Steve The Creep who was on the mic giving away tix and all the other KUSF DJs that came thru including Germ, Tomas, and David Bassin. Thanks to Brad Stark and Kenya Lewis and all the other tireless Save KUSF folks working quietly behind the scenes. Thanks to Erica and the guys from Yowie.com for driving all night up from LA to do a video stream of the event. Thanks to my WFMU co-host Gaylord Fields.

A special thank-you Amoeba Music San Francisco for not only hosting the event but getting behind it 100% in every way including doing a whole round of pre-publicity. Special mention to Karen Pearson, Ilene Berg, Tarin (who did sound for show), Kaitlin (photos), & Tim Cohen (tech advice). Thanks to WFMU's Jeff Mullan for engineering back in the WFMU NJ studios and to WFMU's Scott Williams for tech support, Brian Turner & Liz Berg for their support and everyone else at WFMU. Thanks also to every entity that publicized, promoted, and got word out on the event including Spinning Indie, Bay Citizen, SF Weekly, CMJ, Pitchfork, New York Daily News, and KTVU TV. But mostly THANK-YOU to YOU the radio listener who tune in, appreciate, and support left of the dial stations like KUSF. It was a fun broadcast. For me it was the final in a three part Bay Area series of WFMU remotes. Next week (Feb 25th) I will be back in the WFMU studios same time (3pm-6pm EST = noon - 3pm PST) with a show that will include a 1988 Miami Bass set and an interview with Yukmouth of the Luniz fame.

Yo, we need you to make some noise for Wisconsin. It's not about unions per se. It's about autocracy and the royal priviledge of delegating wealth to those who don't need it and can't responsibly manage it.
