Billy Jam:

First comment WOO HOO and all that Sean Daily type stuff....Happy Fridaya all......Today's show is lve from Jersey City. Today's picture on top of plalist is from Jersey in the UK's Channel Islands. Guests today include activist / performance artist Reverend Billy (Talen) of The Church of Life After Shopping (formerly known as the Church of Stop Shopping) who performs with his group and choir at the Highline Ballroom on Sunday. Also in the house is DJ ALF (Maryland represent) and DJ Skizo (again visiting the US from Italy) both on the wheels of steel cutting and scratching live. Then there will be Cali based Japanese artist Shing02, DJ Icewater, and vocalist Emi Meyer doing a live 40 minute set. They will be performing in Virginia tonight at the T-Mode Anime Convention at the Alexandria Old Town Hilton, and tomorrow and Sunday at American Museum of Natural History in NYC as part of the Silk Road Exhibit - both days at 330pm, and again tomorrow night in Brooklyn at Sound Clash Vol 2 at bpm 237 Kent Ave in Williamsburg..........THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO WFMU - feel free to post in the comments your thoughts on consumerism in America today and how the recent downturn in the economy has positively affected people - in your opinion. More than George Clinton, the Watts Prophets, Eazy and Dre – possibly the most influential figure in West Coast gangster rap died today

Crunchy, toothsome and tasty.
  3:08pm
CheriPi:

Is there live video feed for this set?
  3:15pm
fred:

I'm not often home to catch this show live, and ALF is on the wheels!
  3:20pm
Aaron:

shout out to the cheese snob
  3:24pm
Sean Daily:

The Reverend Billy sounds like one o' them preverts. He's sapping and depurifying my precious bodily fluids.

And I like it.
  3:25pm
Duke of Earl Grey:

I love the Rev. Billy! I back away from consumerism frequently, and say "Hallelujah!"
  3:28pm
Brian:

Read about Rev. Billy's arrest at the Citibank ... did his wife have the baby / Congratulations!
  3:30pm
Duke of Earl Grey:

"I'm drowning in a sea of identical details"... AMEN especially on 34th St. between 6th and 7th... it's like a MALL but outdoors, and dirty! Next time I walk down that street, WHAT should I SHOUT? Should I shout, "Stop shopping, back away from consumerism, HALLELUJAH!"?
  3:32pm
Sean Daily:

Preach it, brother! Preach it!
  3:47pm
Duke of Earl Grey:

The shopping mall culture is even worse in China. They've torn down lots of cool old sections of cities *everywhere* and replaced them with identical shopping malls.
  3:49pm
Brian:

Modernity created the form of identity requiring "self-realization" and the profit practices of corporate capitalist plutocrats captured that need with the supermarket of consumerism.
  3:49pm
Sean Daily:

Where can I get more information on, well, everything that the Rev. Billy is talking about?
  3:54pm
Joe:

Disneyland
  3:54pm
Missy:

McDonalds or Burger King
  3:55pm
Brian:

Plutocracy --
the primary evil in our society, undermining democracy and orchestrating the consumer culture that creates bogus needs and channels the fulfillment of needs into shopping that reinforces the power of the plutocrat class...
  3:55pm
David + Mary in DC:

love Rev Billy - what aobut all these drug store chanins everywerhe
  3:57pm
Brian:

the consumer culture's sad supermarket of self-identity
  3:59pm
Sean Daily:

How about the way out of all this madness?
  4:06pm
Charlie Hanley:

Ipod's should be boycotted as batteries are not replaceable and force customers to buy new Ipods and discard old ones!
  4:10pm
accompanistacco:

hi :)
  4:11pm
Brian:

Maybe the Sunday service could be taped and posted?
  4:13pm
Sean Daily:

Reverendbillicus Maximus!
  4:13pm
Duke of Earl Grey:

Charlie, if you follow online instructions carefully, you can replace the batteries in *some* iPods yourself, but it's easy to break the innards; gotta have surgeon hands. Also many iPod batteries sold online are rip-offs, so be careful, avoid sleazEbay. (Are there any MP3 players designed so that you can easily replace the battery yourself?)
  4:15pm
Duke of Earl Grey:

...although of course, APPLE does NOT want you to know you can do it yourself!
  4:16pm
maximum goose:

nano-sludge--could become sentient---may be in the best interests of all to look into that battery replacement method
  4:16pm
LizGig:

Happy National Music Day! And it's free! http://www.lovelivemusic.ie/
  4:16pm
Ψ-Ns:

The iPod isssue is even more insidious. Apple offers to recycle your used electronics for you, but they just "refurbish" it and sell it to someone else. Such a deal!
  4:17pm
Cecile:

YES. Kings No More.
  4:22pm
Cecile:

Tom Moulton produced a track or two of theirs. Classic disco producer!

Billy, if you could slide on some classic Northern Soul or some vintage disco, that would be amazing.

Or some techno that sounds like someone's water pipes freezing. Whatever you like.
  4:24pm
Dre Mayes:

DJ Alf & Skizo...Rip the kut y'all!!! The Turntable Movement ROCKS ON!! Billy, what's up homie??
