i'm in ontario. my sister and i are convinced they're trying to take over the world. i'm sure they will too. have you ever really seen any documentary evidence of their activities? never. all we see them doing is darting to and 'fro. watch out guys, those squirrels, can't be trusted

Can I make a request for Bardo Pond or their otherwise otherworldly side projects?
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:11pm
Liz B.:
I've got a big fat one that hangs out on my fire escape and grunts, then digs through my plant pots and ate ALL of my bulbs. Squirrel is my new nemesis! I hung up a squirrel drawing opposite the window to taunt it.
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:12pm
dc pat:
huh, never saw black squirrels until I got to DC...all gray until then. red in VT.
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:13pm
dc pat:

|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:14pm
Tom:
A squirrel broke into my apartment. I woke to it scurrying around my kitchen helping itself to food and birdseed. He was partying alone. We both nearly had a heart attack when I went to see what the commotion was and found him making a mess. I panicked as I tried to figure out how to get him out, and he started darting back and forth at warp speed. He eventually left on his own through the small hole he tore in the screen. It was like he was looking for the hole but couldn't remember where it was.
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:14pm
Skirkie:
When I was in DC I noticed the squirrels being much much larger that Jersey squirrels and not the least bit afraid of humans.
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:16pm
Tom:
Squirrels hate cayenne pepper. Sprinkle some around your plants etc and see if it works. I think it annoys them without truly harming them. They are insanely persistent.
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:17pm
ds:
thats bc squirrels in DC are in cohoots with the pigeons there, which while i was minding my own business and having a sandwhich at the park, came swooping down from above, my sandwhich falls and the birds and squirrels go at my lunch together
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:18pm
ds:
though racoons are much much worse and more dangerous than squirrels
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:19pm
drewo:
Squirrels get old and die - like all of us. How come I never see squirrel corpses in city parks? (not that it's a sight I'd really want to see...) Just wondering.
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:23pm
efd:
I can corroborate the cayenne pepper suggestion - I bought a brand of bird seed that has pepper flakes in it, specifically as a squirrel deterrent. (I was tired of putting bird food out and having it disappear within hours.) The squirrels stay away and the birds still eat it - win-win!
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:25pm
dc pat:
huh, I'll try the cayenne peppah! I've seen dead squirrels--you can tell them apart from the rat roadkill because their tails retain the bushiness...
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:26pm
Duke of Earl Grey:
Would cayenne hurt the plants? Great show!
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:26pm
mko:
when my sister was looking at colleges, my mother wanted to know if the campus was safe. however, her way of asking this question was to ask the tour guide, "so...the squirrels look really, well, happy here! it must be safe for them! and also...the students?"
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:28pm
Looms:
Made myself a brown squirrel friend when i lived in Germany back in the 90s. He used to spend a lot of time wandering on the balcony and the kitchen table, but also staring at the tv screen when we played Mario Cart. Though, we never managed to touch him.
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:29pm
mark:
lotta squirrels on campus on my alma mater, ducks too, but they would mocking quack at you, i'm serious. when i go visit the smith college campus sometimes the squirrels come up to you and wait until you do something because they are usually fed by humans there.
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:30pm
still b/p:
I put cayenne on the deck rail and in plants where squirrels dig craters and stash half-bagels. Might be effective, but I want to SEE at least one blowin' on his fingers with his eyes wide, "Ay yi-ha-hot!! Phyooo-too -- I'm outa here!!"

If our roles were reversed, I wonder how the squirrels would keep us out. I personally like cayenne.
|
Mon. 3/29/10 2:37pm
Tom:
The squirrel would blast Kenny Loggins from a boom box.
|

While visiting with a medicine man, back in the mid-80s in Arizona, USA, my wife learned her power animal was a squirrel. She likes cayenne. Hmm, maybe Rolling Thunder was pulling her leg.
