Mornin' "all".

Mon. 6/1/09 9:55am From: annie

cecile, you'll get a kick out of this: Isa has been put in her crate each night when it's "time for bed" and she has been pretty good about it overall. well last night i was out for dinner and put her there to prevent her from tearing the house apart. i got back and she had removed herself and greeted me joyfully. well, when it was "time for bed" i went in and left her cage door open so she could climb in like she usually does. hehe.. she refused, so i just let her be. ten minutes later she went in; i left the door open.. she stayed in there all night! with the door open! hehe

Mon. 6/1/09 9:57am From: dc pat

OH GOD, NO! Not ROBOT scientists!!

Mon. 6/1/09 9:57am From: Cecile

Aw, bw, I'm sorry.
There was some food there that made me cry, so delicious.

My birthday; was yesterday. I had a nice weekend, Saturday was dinner at the 112 (best place in Minneapolis for my budget), a show by Demetri Martin. Sunday was UP and my new favorite pizza in town - Black Sheep. They use a coal oven. Nom.

thank you for the wonderful wishes!

Annie, heh, your Isa cracks me up! She's a good girl...evenutually.

Mon. 6/1/09 9:58am From: AnAnonymousParty

"Yet another anal probe", "Space" sighed.

Mon. 6/1/09 9:58am From: Robot Scientists

the humans are dead. once again without emotion.

Mon. 6/1/09 9:58am From: still b/p

Space already seems to have a huge puckered cleft/scar from sternum to scrotal zone. Diana seems to have been Tased to a physically rapturous surrender.

Mon. 6/1/09 9:59am From: Cecile

AAP, if you put "wistfully" at the end, it makes it even more funnier.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:01am From: AnAnonymousParty

"Space" has been on the bad end of far too many anal probe attempts by aliens with limited understanding of human physiology for that, Cecile.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:02am From: annie

they look like they're waiting for a bus, not getting ready to probe space.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:03am From: "Joe" Steele

Dianna doesn't seem to be restrained in any manner.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:04am From: Cecile

Yes, they haven't been gentle with him.
Perhaps Carol Queen needs to go into space.

heh. and that too.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:04am From: "Space"

If I had a nickel for every time I've said, "Uh, that's not my anus" . . .

Mon. 6/1/09 10:06am From: "Joe" Steele

You always say, "Turn her into a leopard woman." Dr. Roboto, how about some creativity?

Mon. 6/1/09 10:10am From: bw

Mon. 6/1/09 10:13am From: "Joe" Steele

It's climate controlled, and you can have a really good wine cellar.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:18am From: "Joe" Steele

I fully intend on getting these Fletcher Hanks books.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:19am From: Alien Robot Freaks

Earth girls are cute. Let's play doctor with her.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:20am From: Dave Doom

Hi Ben. This is Dave Lockgroove and Compass and Boston. Ben, I stopped listening to music about 6 years ago. I played sax in an afrobeat band in Montreal for a while, but didn't listen to music much. I stopped collecting and have this little faux-antique record player that I was going to give to a girlfriend, but she bought a cooler 80s record player first, so I kept it [we broke up shortly afterwards].

So I'm in NYC for many years and have this little record player and 4 records (one T Rex and a few classical) and sort of stopped listening to music. Occassionally I bought a few CDs from the Desi taxi eatery joint on Houston and 1st-ish, which were good.

So, I just moved to brooklyn. Have a nice flat with my girlfriend, and decided to flip on the radio to keep me company while I unloaded the dish washer. I assumed I'd listen to sports talk radio (always a mainstay for me) but actually that benny goodman orgy thing was still going on, didn't want to hear that, and rather than flip to AM I thought wtf I'd scroll up the dial.

I stopped when I heard the smog (I'm of course irate at this "Bill Callahan" bull as if his parents were better than he at naming him. I remember I had the weirdest encounter with him at the middle east one night, that's another story though) backing tracks before his voice came on.

Anyhow, I sort of sighed in my head hearing the drums nad horns and was like, yeah, I guess I should listen to this.

Then his voice came on, effectless and such.

I listened to the track. Expecting it to be an anomoly I was curious what would come next, coudl it possibly be something I liked as much?

Then you came on, a familiar voice flooding back old memories. It was such a treat to hear Ben Walker on my radio again, didn't realize you had moved to NYC from Boston etc. etc. The thrill of listening ot live radio broadcast by a DJ who's taste you "trust" is something I had been missing.

So I'm listening and its a treat to have you back dj-ing. I just placed my speakers in stereo in the new apt and its being effectively baptized by your set this le morning!

Very exciting.

Thanks again for 5 formative years introducing me to music in Boston and its good to hear our tastes still align.

What a surprising pleasure.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:20am From: annie

hhmmm dianna seems to have lost her leggings along the way... hmmmm

Mon. 6/1/09 10:22am From: bw

hi DAve Doom

good story!

Mon. 6/1/09 10:22am From: "Joe" Steele

Mainly about Fletcher Hanks and question would be "What is your malfuncation?" but I think that's answered in one of the books.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:23am From: Comic Artist

That's not a continuity slip. That's target-audience titillation.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:23am From: annie

beautiful, what is this?

Mon. 6/1/09 10:24am From: AnAnonymousParty

You can't wear leggings on a fully operational table, it would interfere with the horizontalling mechanism

Mon. 6/1/09 10:28am From: Cecile

Dave Doom, that's so amazingly cool.
BW does do a beautiful show. Great way to start Mondays.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:28am From: bw

Mon. 6/1/09 10:37am From: "Joe" Steele

I thought the transmitting belt was a bad thing. Shows what I know.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:39am From: "Joe" Steele

Sure, punch the metal guy in the face, that'll totally hurt him more than you.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:39am From: Parq

Joe, the deal seems to be that the belt is a bad thing if your arms are tied, because they can shuttle you around with it, but if you can get your arms free, you can use it to your advantage.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:40am From: Cecile

it hurt his feelings.

Mon. 6/1/09 10:40am From: cs

God, folks, if we tried to make a complete list of people who made great art/entertainment but were horrible wastes of protoplasm as people, we'd be here all day. AA Milne was cold and distant with young Christopher, Rollie Dahl was a Nazi supporter, and those are just two EGs that leap to mind.

Thanks, Cecile! (love that name!)

Mon. 6/1/09 11:28am From: Cecile

I love Harvey Pekar. He is a real inspiration to me.

Hey, does anyone know where I can find nice editions of Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon?

Mon. 6/1/09 11:28am From: Cecile

thanks for the great detective work!

Mon. 6/1/09 11:29am From: "Joe" Steele

I've had a couple awful comics published in my college paper back in the day.

Let me grip your torso again. So we can get out.

Mon. 6/1/09 11:30am From: Cecile

In fact, I illustrated Fun World Music Facts about 14 years ago. This was in the dawn of the Web.

This would be a fun video game, what, with all the dashing, jaw punching, tremendous effort and braless Diannas.

Mon. 6/1/09 11:33am From: Cecile

nothing's stopping you from it, AAP

Mon. 6/1/09 11:33am From: cs

i wont forget paul - it will be an interesting assignment for me.

Mon. 6/1/09 11:34am From: "Joe" Steele

Mine were pretty much all done by computer. I don't think I have any files saved, but may possibly have some of the newspapers at home.

Mon. 6/1/09 11:35am From: doug from dc

Given the author's reputation, these poor robots are in for a horrible fate.

Mon. 6/1/09 11:35am From: still b/p

Mr. Karasik, ya gots to make some nice-sized reproductions of best, most classic and craziest Hanks panels for our walls. This crew here, I'm guessing, would be glad to vote for favorites.

Mon. 6/1/09 11:36am From: Cecile

Yeah, get them printed on canvas...

Mon. 6/1/09 11:36am From: "Joe" Steele

I must know where this head one is from:

they can do brain surgery, and now they're "clumsy"??

Mon. 6/1/09 11:37am From: Yep

How are the mighty fallen.

Mon. 6/1/09 11:38am From: AnAnonymousParty

Typical specialists.

Mon. 6/1/09 11:39am From: paul Karasik

1. I don't think that there are any primo collections of Flash Gordon, but there was a recent classy book of Alex Raymond's work that surely included some Flash Gordon work.

2. Even robots must suffer.

3. b/p: what walls are we talkin' about here? I would be happy to supply you with scans of primo Hanks panels.

4. The head shot comes from a comic book called "the Big Three" and appears in Volume 1: "I Shall Destroy all the Civilized Planets!"

Mon. 6/1/09 11:41am From: dc "pat"

alright! Wendy in the freakin HAUS!

Mon. 6/1/09 11:41am From: Cecile

thanks, Paul.
Then those facsimiles my friend had must be worth a ton now. It was back in the early 80s. I will look out for that new book.

Heres a classic:

Annie, re 11:36, I was just thinking the same thing; how convenient that they're suddenly "clumsy". But let's keep in mind that the same logic pervades multi-million-dollar summer blockbusters in the movies.

Mon. 6/1/09 11:48am From: still b/p

Jus' my apartment walls.

Getting scans would be great. I'll go back and review the strips we've seen here recently to make a request or two via your website. Thanks. Some images and dialogue are too perfect or awful or whacked, sometimes all at once, to pass up.

Mon. 6/1/09 11:48am From: molerat

Damn, missed Mr. Karasik. It's off to the archives for me.

Really loved the Newgarden+Karasik essay on Nancy (www.tomhart.net/teaching/handouts/howToReadNancy.pdf).

Any chance of getting Mark Newgarden on WFMU some time?
