Playlist for Irene Trudel - August 25, 2008

Mondays 3pm - 6pm on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

Music floating on calmer seas is "netted" by my ears and released to the hungry listeners. It's a stringy catch, but freuently live and always delectable.

Fingerstyle guitar aficionado Matt Baldwin last appeared on WFMU following the release of the Berkely Guitar trio album on Tompkins Square. Baldwin is now stepping into his own, stretching out at a Prog angle from his Fahey-esque roots. Matt builds a wall of guitars on his debut album, "Paths of Ignition," and is described as "...the visionary wildcard of today’s solo guitar music, the ambitious fever dreamer, the serpent in the grass." Matt Baldwin dropped by WFMU for a solo set.

Hi Irene. Having a rough day at work. They've gone and updated our systems again. Ugggghhh...

Sorry about those system updates! That very thing is making my life hell at work as well. Banish 'em, I say, and let the music play.

Is this Charlie Haden Family any relation to Petra Haden from that dog? I think one of the elder Hadens was a jazz player and the other recorded under the name Spain.

Yes t'is. Saw them play list night--really great!

Is that Pat on guitar?

Where'd you get the Petra Haden-Miss Murgatroid tune? It's not even out yet. Petra's version of "The Who Sells Out" is great, too.

Bona makes you sweat? Really.

Mon. 8/25/08 4:39pm From: Irene

It's what he says.

Interesting. It sez here (on CD Baby) that Afenginn is Balkan. Yet, "Kaskelotti" sounded by turns Italian and Mexican. The world isn't so big after all.

Irene: Really enjoyed your show on Matt Baldwin. Adventurous stuff. It's always like that on your show. Thank you!

Heard a track at 4:24PM on Monday the 25th with female vocal and sundry. At times it had a Japanese/Asian flair. Swear it came just before Caposella, but it was not Afenginn -- listened to all of their tracks online. Could there be something missing on playlist that came between Afenginn and Caposella?

Tue. 8/26/08 6:06pm From: Irene

I checked the archive and, no, there wasn't a track between those two. I'm thinking it was actually the song "At Midnight..." by Lights. That sounds more like what you're describing. If you go to the archive and listen in at about 1hour 19 min from the top you'll hear the song.
