Artist Track Album Comments

Set 1 (Listen to this set: Real)
Experimental Audio Research  - (track 2) (Listen: Real)   Data Rape  A sound collage using 8 modified Speak & Spell voice synthesizers, originally sold to kids. Occasionally sounds like sonically treated underwater alarm clocks.
Yeti  "Two Fingers" (CD 1, track 6) (Listen: Real)   Monster In The Garden: Live From KFJC  This is a compilation. "Two Fingers" sounds heavier, avanty-spaced, a bit dissonant, even a bit surfy at moments.

Background music played during mic break:
Les Chakachas  "Love is like a Violin" (track 4) (Listen: Real)   Arriba!  Another monster from Les Chakachas. Gigantic sound. Imagine it's the slow song at the record hop....

Set 2: the old radio show portion of the evening.
Mystery In The Air  "The Marvellous Barrastro" (Listen: Real)     Originally broadcast on August 7, 1947. Mystery In The Air was a summer replacement series, and only ran for that summer. It offered dramatizations of stories from world literature, and all episodes starred Peter Lorre. Shows were of extremely high quality. This episode: an evil magician shows up and learns to imitate Peter Lorre, all to steal Lorre's blind wife by fooling her to think he's her husband.....

Background music played during mic break:
Les Chakachas  "Love is like a Violin" (track 4) (Listen: Real)   Arriba!  Another monster from Les Chakachas. Gigantic sound. Imagine it's the slow song at the record hop....

Set 3: from novelty Euro-twist to punk in 30 minutes. (Listen to this set: Real)
Les Chakachas  "Der Twist ist passe" (track 3) (Listen: Real)   -  Fun. And check them in their uniforms, posed in front of the casino at Monte Carlo. This track is actually an MP3 burned onto compilation CD and sent to me by Doktor Peter, a listener in Germany.
Reuben Wilson  "Old Time Shuffle Blues" (track 3) (Listen: Real)   Organ Blues  Gets down and has soul, but with a more modern and muscular feel. And any time we hear a Hammond B-3 is a good time.
Meters  "Cissy Strut/Cordova", "It's Your Thing" (track 6 medley, ended at -3:19) (Listen: Real)   Live on the Queen Mary  Hard-edged, electrified 1970's funky soul-rock. Recorded in 1975, at a party hosted by Paul & Lind McCartney.
Revolting Cocks  "Creep" (track 2) (Listen: Real)   Linger Fickin' Good  Steady and heavy. This is another piece that makes me think of Glenn Branca.
Buzzkill  "Big Takeover" (track 21) (Listen: Real)   Punk Rock Jukebox  A cover of the Bad Brains song.
No Brain  "I'm Against It" (track 1) (Listen: Real)   Punk Rock Jukebox  A cover of the Ramones song.

Background music played during mic break:
Les Chakachas  "Love is like a Violin" (track 4) (Listen: Real)   Arriba!  Another monster from Les Chakachas. Gigantic sound. Imagine it's the slow song at the record hop....

Set 4: the psych/psych-rock set. (Listen to this set: Real)
Experimental Audio Research  "Beyond The Pale" (track 1) (Listen: Real)   Beyond The Pale  Slow, long, fairly quiet, but not soft. Eases us into what's to come in the rest of the set.
Psychotrone Rhonedakk  "Mynd" (track 1) (Listen: Real)   Keep On Psychedelic Mind  Drenched in acid, but one of the few songs that's also fun and kinda cute at the same time.
Overhang Party  "Falling Down" (track 5) (Listen: Real)   2  Quiet for the first few seconds, but then bursts forth into stately psych heaviness.
Bethany Curve  "The Guarantee" (track 4, begun at -1:47) (Listen: Real)   You Brought Us here  A sustained guitar solo.
Apryl Fool  "The Lost Mother Land - Part 1" (track 12, ended at -0:07) (Listen: Real)   Love, Peace & Poetry: Japanese Psychedelic Music  Japanese psychedelic music from 1968 - 1972, that is. This track is from 1969, and features totally muddy vocals and hyperactive organ work.
Black Sun Ensemble  "Captain Wormwood" (track 4) (Listen: Real)   Hymn Of The Master  Builds nicely to heavy psych rock. Easy tempo.
Nishinihon  "super station" (track 3, ended at -1:03) (Listen: Real)   Nishinihon  Another splinter group of Acid Mothers Temple.

Background music played during mic break:
Les Chakachas  "Love is like a Violin" (track 4) (Listen: Real)   Arriba!  Another monster from Les Chakachas. Gigantic sound. Imagine it's the slow song at the record hop....

Set 5: a fairly quiet end. (Listen to this set: Real)
Masada  "Kisofim" (CD 2, track 9. Ended at -0:27) (Listen: Real)   Live At Tonic 2001  Quiet, a bit Hebraic and romantically mysterious.
Secret Chiefs 3  "Siege Perilous" (track 8) (Listen: Real)   Book M  Sounds very medieval.
Amon Tobin  "The Nasty" (track 8) (Listen: Real)   Bricolage  Dreamy and kinda ambient, but with moments of hardness.
