	♥ 9:42am Doug Schulkind: The wonderful Andrew White was/is a legend in Washington, DC. He created his own label as a means for issuing dozens of his own recordings. Played on a smattering of wonderful, essential records like this one. He was one of the world's great authorities on John Coltrane's performances, having transcribed his solos. (They are in the collection of Dartmouth College.) White was also a hilarious and warm gentleman. He sought out joy and delight in all he did, including his absurdist sartorial style, as evidence by this photo which accompanied his New York Times obit in 2020: images.app.goo.gl... I adored him and dedicated to him the second set of this show: wfmu.org... after he died.

The story never ran, but this is what happened: Sandy showed up on a Harley in full leather someplace in Venice. He had made one last record that was a dark comment on the war in Vietnam that went absolutely nowhere. Now he was tearing around L.A. on a motorcycle with nowhere to go.

	♥ 9:42am Doug Schulkind: The wonderful Andrew White was/is a legend in Washington, DC. He created his own label as a means for issuing dozens of his own recordings. Played on a smattering of wonderful, essential records like this one. He was one of the world's great authorities on John Coltrane's performances, having transcribed his solos. (They are in the collection of Dartmouth College.) White was also a hilarious and warm gentleman. He sought out joy and delight in all he did, including his absurdist sartorial style, as evidence by this photo which accompanied his New York Times obit in 2020: images.app.goo.gl... I adored him and dedicated to him the second set of this show: wfmu.org... after he died.
