This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

very similar bass part to another classic Yusef track, I think Morning (?)

this is simply one of my favorite tracks, from Art Blakey or anyone

no guitarist is credited but ya gotta admit it sounds like Arsenio Rodriguez

Blakey in this period is pretty wild, if my timeline-recall is accurate i think it was probably something from Orgy in Rhythm

It's an Oscar Pettiford composition and he is on cello in the track, that could be the plucking you are thinking might be Arsenio.
Avatar 9:37pm
Flash Strap:

↳ WR @9:36
i think that plucking is distinct from Oscar's bass
Avatar 9:38pm

that's right i'm going for an Art Blakey double-dip

woowie!
Avatar 9:41pm

i suggest it may be Arsenio because Sabu was playing with him around that time, and Sabu was a crucial Blakey collaborator at the same time, but it's a tenuous connection

on this record: Yusef Lateef, Ahmed Abdul-Malik, Chief Bey, Solomon G. Ilori, and more. hell of a record with a mighty lineup

hmm, just seeing that that Sonny Sharrock song that that Elvin Jones song, which came about 15 years earlier, reminded me of (or "coincided with") had Elvin Jones playing on it! (which, really - i should have remembered immediately, considering my fondness of ask the ages)
...it's the melody lines that remind me of each-other; but probably the percussion had something to do with it also.
