↳ Song: "The Way I Feel" by "Fotheringay"
Interesting trivia: After Fotheringay broke up, Jerry Donahue and Pat Donaldson joined Johnny Hallyday's band in the now legendary Johnny Circus shows. The backup singers were Madeline Bell, Nanette Workman (who Hallyday was having an affair with during the tour) and one hit wonder Doris Troy. Amazing how all these musical career paths converged.

Doug Schulkind:

Heath's contributions to the work of Yusef Lateef ranks near the top for me. From Richard Scheinin's 2021 interview with Al Heath:

Q: When you look back on your life, is there any one experience that you hold most dear?

A: Yeah, you know the one thing that I love more than all of those groups? I love Yusef Lateef. He was a serious gentleman and a teacher. I learned a lot from him. And I also enjoyed as much to play with Abdullah Ibrahim. I loved that, too. Those two things were the most important things in my life.

Q: Why?

A: Well, Yusef because of him being a gentleman and his dedication to Islam and how he treated us and the opportunities he gave us. When I was moving to Sweden and I told him I had to get out of the group, he told me, “Man, you can go ahead to Sweden. You don’t have to get out of the group. You can come back in the summer and play with me.” Because he was in school during the winter, getting his advanced degrees, and in the summer he would travel. He said, “You can come back in the summer and play with me.” And I appreciated that, man. I was in his arranging class at City College, and it taught me a little bit about writing music. I learned some great stuff from Yusef.

From an interview with Jerry Donahue, how he and Gerry found themselves with Hallyday. Apparently. Gary Wright and Mick Jones (Foreigner) hung out in the same circles as well.

– What kind of music WONDERWHEEL, a precursor to SPOOKY TOOTH, played? Why did you leave the band?

It was a rock band that primarily played material written by Gary Wright. Initially it was Gary, myself, Pat Donaldson and Gerry Conway. We got together within weeks of FOTHERINGAY’s demise. Great session guitarist from New York, Hugh McCracken, also joined us when he was in the country. That line-up, minus Hugh, also went into the studio to do an album for French rock hero, Johnny Hallyday, who also had his guitarist, Mick Jones, over with him – we recorded at Olympic Studios in London. Not too long thereafter, Mick and I swapped jobs and Pat and I went to France to join Johnny and his band, doing a further two LPs in that year, 1971. Micky joined WONDERWHEEL, which I believe was his last gig before he co-formed FOREIGNER.

Good afternoon! Tuned in late, but happy to be here. I got to see Strawbs a few times in my youth, on the tours for Ghosts and Nomadness, and a 1984 show at the Bottom Line. Though Ghosts and Nomadness are far from my favorite Strawbs lps they were still great shows. Pretty Things opened for the Ghosts show. I knew nothing about them at the time so I didn't pay attention; silly boy.
