Obscure musical gems, avant experimentation, and classics worth rehearing. A conurbation of Leslie speakers, timbales, plungers, arch-tops, tablas, and squeaky reeds. Black ties, pork pies, Cuban boots, Nudie suits, bobbysocks, turtlenecks, and high-heeled sneakers. Jazz is the north star but it’s a wide universe, so says The Laughing Clock.

Hey neveract, Jeff G., Listener G.! Hello sort of LG's brother!

Jeff: after your show today I ordered that Laughner comic. I know nothing about the Cleveland punk scene and I am looking forward to it, it seems meticulous researched? (And I do know something about underground comics, or at least more than I do about punk)

Oh wonderful. I think you'll dig it -- it's almost overwhelmingly info rich. Btw, I probably should have mentioned this, but it's not a comic in the traditional, paneled sense. Every page is its own panel, essentially.

Hey Dean! Any new additions to the shed?
  7:22pm
Dean:

Among the latest, David Larsen (bar. sax.) working with Ken Peplowski. Outstanding.
  7:24pm

Also picked up that recent reissue of a Khan Jamal LP, priced around $45. I found an eBay offer for $15.

Dean:

And a buddy gave me a bunch of Bobo Stenson CDs that I didn't already have, plus other odds and ends, including Greek pop and classical.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm

David Larsen is a new name to me. Peplowski is very mainstream/conservative generally, or is that inaccurate?
  7:27pm

Quite accurate, but I love him, and he has made records that venture out here and there. He is a masterful musician.

I took clarinet in elementary school, too, but I did not listen to any clarinet music, so I did not care, and gave it up. Now my musical pantry is stacked with great clarinet music, from Pee Wee Russell to Francis Poulenc, and I have a beautiful Yamaha to play. Guess what? I was better in elementary school.
