Good morning McGroovey. I like it that they didn't just keep doing their 1st and 2nd albums over and over, and instead tried lots of different things. Calypso, soul, funk, etc.

I think Robert Christgau also described it as "unlame."

Good morning, tom tom. I don't know how it's considered. I found it a bit too reverby at first but then got used to it.
I forget to mention dub. They got psychedelic with the dub.

I consider it good. But the passive voice is another way to let "them" tell you what's good!

WFMU is all about resisting "them". Resisting the passive voice is part of that fight!

Christgau certainly fancied himself a "they", and not because he was non-binary.

Although, come to think of it, I guess I don't know anything about his sexuality and gender struggles, if he had any. They've never told me.

"Production" is a kind of subjective term, no?

It can mean anything from from financing a project to assisting the artist with songwriting, to actually playing the material for those who aren't really capable of doing so themselves.

Often what's called "production" is really a person telling the recording engineer what they want & then taking a large amount of credit & a nice paycheck (some) for it.
