TD bank issues $300k Certified Cheque, from an inheritance, brother mails it to his brother by registered mail (must be picked up in person, ID shown, and signed for). Notice arrives, goes in to pick up mail, mail not found. TD will issue another cheque, but money must be returned in full if the first cheque is fraudulently cashed by someone. Canada Post conducts a 'thorough' search, can't find it, and refunds the $12 to the sender. Bank can't prevent fraud on a possibly stolen cheque, cause hey, not their problem, and not like they have the money. Then, in a shocking twist, Canada Post found the cheque. It had fallen behind the drawer. Behind the drawer?! Wasn't that the first place for the thorough search to look?

A certified cheque is considered to be as good as cash, and with the name and often address on it as well. And seriously, you take that to the bank and they hold it anyways. We did it my etransfer in smaller increments over several days.

I’m continually told by fellow citizens, government officials and media pundits that we live in the Greatest Country In the World, and because of that everyone wants to come here. I’ve pledged allegiance to its flag throughout my childhood, and can’t look for more than a minute and not see some form of nationalistic iconography anywhere in the land. We have the best form of democracy the world’s ever seen (legalized bribery), forged by brilliant “Founding Fathers” (rich white slave holders and monopoly merchants who cleverly convinced farmers to fight their fight against taxation instead of the class war that was brewing all throughout the colonies, a reaction to the same kind of insider corruption and nepotism that exists today). Hey, well, at least I have lots of freedom of choice to buy as many cheap disposable trinkets (made by child save labor in SE Asia) with which to full up my basement and garage with, to take the sting off of an increasingly empty and precarious existence within the hellhole of capitalism, under which I still don’t have universal healthcare or free college tuition or affordable housing or a job that pays a living wage. You’re free to choose from the monopoly from whom everything you see, hear, eat, buy, etc comes from. Thank goodness for the “Free Market.” Land of the Fee. Home of the Slave.

One of the distinctions of it being a transition from indirect and nebulous lyrics to more frank and purposeful simplicity. Waters took the reigns, recognizing his own struggles with madness, capitalism and family situations, taking inspiration from the Plastic Ono Band record: “I just think that’s one of the truly great moments in history of rock ‘n’ roll, or the history of any writing.”

	♥ 11:50am Zinn The Mood: (If you’ll permit one last indulgence, to go back the earlier part of the set…) Steve Miller is conspicuous in a theory I’ve had for years. That being, that any artist who was successful in the 70’s fell into a vortex of horrible output in the 80’s. Just his example alone, in which from Fly Like An Eagle to the few others we discussed and other we didn’t, to the vapid and forgettable Abracadabra in the 80’s, is just one of very many examples of artists getting sucked into the downward spiral of the 80’s. Just off the top of my head there’s Heart, Jefferson Starship, The Cars, Queen, Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Genesis, Rush, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, and many more. Furthermore, the sheer depth breadth of variety in the 70’s just blows away the staid, milquetoast producer-driven drivel of the MTV age. If you have any doubts just pull up a Billboard Hot 100 chart from say, Nov 74 and compare it to Nov 84. It’s staggering. Will elaborate more on this another time. TD bank issues $300k Certified Cheque, from an inheritance, brother mails it to his brother by registered mail (must be picked up in person, ID shown, and signed for). Notice arrives, goes in to pick up mail, mail not found. TD will issue another cheque, but money must be returned in full if the first cheque is fraudulently cashed by someone. Canada Post conducts a 'thorough' search, can't find it, and refunds the $12 to the sender. Bank can't prevent fraud on a possibly stolen cheque, cause hey, not their problem, and not like they have the money. Then, in a shocking twist, Canada Post found the cheque. It had fallen behind the drawer. Behind the drawer?! Wasn't that the first place for the thorough search to look?

A certified cheque is considered to be as good as cash, and with the name and often address on it as well. And seriously, you take that to the bank and they hold it anyways. Hey, well, at least I have lots of freedom of choice to buy as many cheap disposable trinkets (made by child save labor in SE Asia) with which to full up my basement and garage with, to take the sting off of an increasingly empty and precarious existence within the hellhole of capitalism, under which I still don’t have universal healthcare or free college tuition or affordable housing or a job that pays a living wage. That being, that any artist who was successful in the 70’s fell into a vortex of horrible output in the 80’s. Just his example alone, in which from Fly Like An Eagle to the few others we discussed and other we didn’t, to the vapid and forgettable Abracadabra in the 80’s, is just one of very many examples of artists getting sucked into the downward spiral of the 80’s. Just off the top of my head there’s Heart, Jefferson Starship, The Cars, Queen, Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Genesis, Rush, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, and many more. Furthermore, the sheer depth breadth of variety in the 70’s just blows away the staid, milquetoast producer-driven drivel of the MTV age. If you have any doubts just pull up a Billboard Hot 100 chart from say, Nov 74 and compare it to Nov 84. It’s staggering. Will elaborate more on this another time.
