Had a friend who worked at Tower Records, Newbury and Mass Ave. They would put anti-theft strips in the videos when they still did rentals. So I somehow got her to get a VHS magnetic strip that wasn't deactivated. I hid it in a friends wallet (college dorm) and said let's go to Tower. One of us stood at the video counter, the other in the book section next to it. Of course the alarm went off when he walked through the video entry. They didn't do anything. One of us called the friend over to check out a book. The alarm went off again as he walked through. They looked at him, but did nothing. Then we called him back to the video section, and the alarm went off. Security came out and were going to take him back in an office to search him, I had to step in and explain before they did that. Had a big laugh that day. His expression was priceless when they were going to haul him into the office. Ahh to be young again and have VHS rentals at Tower.

I remember when Das Damen played at the Court Tavern in 1989. Much of the crowd had left after Mudhoney's set though.
Later, I'd see them back up Arthur Lee.

Funny you mention Synchro Sound, I just watched a documentary on YouTube yesterday called "Elliot Easton, Cars, and Guitars" or something like that and much of it was filmed at Synchro just after the Cars bought it. Neat documentary, I think it may have been on 'GBH originally. Lisa Karlin was the host. That whole area has changed so much, I'd probably get lost walking around. And I also miss Supremes and Little Stevies for pizza and sandwiches late night

Allston, definitely! Used to visit musician friends there often. Also remember a rehearsal studio we had, was it "The Music Complex" (?) in Somerville. Big warehouse that was either near or over a bakery that made donuts, and you could smell the donuts coming up through the floor boards. My drummer friend lived in one of the rooms for a time when he lost his pad, they had showers and all that.
