"There used to be really complex songs that you heard on the radio all the time. It challenged the listener, in a good way, and I think people at that time were willing to accept that challenge. As long as you keep the listener interested, it's a good thing, but in today's world, where people's attention spans are really short, it's a different set of rules. It's a challenge for modern bands who aspire to create challenging compositions and want to be heard".
"Part of the challenge today is to balance writing creative music for a world that has a shorter attention span than ever before. Otherwise, you won't be heard."
On the other hand, he tells us that he has a contradiction in being a "rock star", and the role he really wanted as a musician for his life.
"In the '70s, in Yes we toured like crazy and we didn't always have big profit margins. Then, with Asia, I was part of a huge machine that sold over four million copies.
"I couldn't believe it all seemed so simple. So I've seen both sides and now I'm more driven by what the music means to me than anything else. I've always said I'd rather be someone behind the scenes, Chet Atkins-style. I'd be quite happy with that. But certainly if the spotlight keeps falling on me, I'll have to rise to the challenge.

three good songs was my preTeen years assessment of a good LP, then i heard wire, buzzcocks, ramones, costello, coltrane… and that three was upped to five for good LP but then collecting started and all was required was a good story about the physical record to keep (selling grew as option as CDs and reissuing climbed…). Today, with streaming its like another world of true abundance however the vinyl is now even more desirable as my frequent moving days have slowed.

Music runs in the Lookofsky family as he was the father of Left Banke founder Michael Browne. I think Mr. Lookofsky was the "first call" violinist in the recording studios of LA and NYC for many years. Classical, jazz, pop and rock. He could do it all. Saw his name on a lot of album cover liner notes

Jesse Winchester's Isn't That So - struck a chord, hadn't heard that in years,( decades?). At 1st I thought it was Lyle Lovett. And I see on the playlist you played Dando Shaft. I thought they'd been lost to history. Lately I've been listening to Whispering Ned, a funny chestnut. Hey Joe McG: I saw the Left Banke open for the MC5 in Peekskill ~1968 or '69. MC5 were LOUD!

An uneven record, but Lose Again and Someone To Lay Down Beside me are also keepers. There might be a couple of others, but it's been decades since I've heard it.
