Given the current business model, though, being in a band is closer to a "boutique hobby" than an occupation. Previously, there were many outlets within the industry to build even a humble career of some sort. Now, I feel the current situation cause a high turnover rate -- folks with a lot of talent bail out early because there just isn't a chance to keep it together without some sort of "patron."
