Good evening, all. Yes, we are feting Tom Verlaine—-and the downtown of then. Okay, we are a bit loose with specific dates and places, but you get it, subterraneans.

Hey beautiful people! So good to see regulars and some new friends. Jill we need to start a regular mini-theme to each program: What in the World is Jill Kroessen a-cooking’?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm

Fab, this live in San Francisco cut is an epic sonic adventure. You can hear the Albert Ayler in Verlaine. And all of the band.

How are you cooking your brussel sprouts? I toss mine in olive oil, salt, pepper, red chili flakes and bake for about 20-25 minutes until the outside is crunchy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
Beneath the Underground:

We love this: Leo and Jill trading recipes. Who woulda thunk it?
  10:29pm
Jill Kroesen:

Leo! Thanks! I hadn’t decided about the Brussel sprouts! Your method sounds good. I’ll try it. Boiling the string beans, putting lemon and sesame oil on. Cauliflower in the meatloaf.

Beyond the recipes (btw I love Turkey Meatloaf— John), and the loss of Tom V, we are also recalling Langston Hughes today.

Nico hated the strings! And especially the flutes. She thought of herself as a rock n roll singer. Sorry Nico, but "Chelsea Girls" is a classic album.

Don Bonebrake is a great rock and roll xylophone player. But alas, he's from North Hollywood, not the East Village.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm

Lol xylophones and marimbas always caught the underground rock feel, while vibraphones are jazz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm

The Thompson Twins included marimba on a bunch of tracks.

Been doing some detective work. On that CD of Grand Street they put the wrong title on for that cut you played. It’s Freak of Nature not Fay Shism Blues. So funny to find that out! They put the correct title on the DVD. Not my favorite performance but I thought, we’ll it’s history…. No idea the relative cooking times for impossible burger and regular meat. Interesting question. Such a fascinating night of music!!!
