Hey Don, Yeah, I agree but luv controversy
  2:32pm
Double R:

This is a cool version of a song Ray wrote for the theme of The Virgin Soldiers ( A great novel ). I heard an awful cover of this where someone put lyrics to it. The original isn't too unlike this version.

We all know and love The JAm's version of David Watts. If you read Dave Davie's new memoir. You learn a lot about the real David Watts. And Dave's dabbling with the same sex.

  2:39pm

I'll never understand an exact, faithful cover of a song. The only difference between this and the original End Of The Season is a little more bird chirping. Give me the Kinks version.

Avatar 2:41pm

I agree Double R re covers - I LOVE Conershop!!!
  2:41pm

I'm sorry. Waterloo Sunset should be left alone. This might be more painful than those Dave Clark remixes... This is Cornershop? How dare they.
  2:41pm
Lilith212:

Honestly can only hear Waterloo Sunset original song
it is perfection of a song and shouldn't be even attempted
Avatar 2:42pm

Yeah... Waterloo Sunset should be hand's off any covers please!!!
Avatar 🎸 2:42pm
Don Ciccone:

I'm busy searching for the new Dave book.
Avatar 2:42pm

Lilith 212....It's true it is the holy grail!!!!!

  2:44pm
Lilith212:

The Uglies really is a great band name

Lisa. I have no problem with a live cover being faithful . It's fun and for the audience. But I don't see the point of recording and releasing it.
Avatar 2:45pm

i appreciate any version of Waterloo Sunset; play Bowies version at some point
Avatar 2:48pm
Frank Zaatar:

Sorry, folks, I dig Cornershop and I dig this cover. If Ray Davies had grown up in Brick Lane in the 90s he might sound like this.(Not comparing them for genius, but the tremulous voices.)
  2:49pm
Double R:

Now this is a cover I can understand. A very different take on David Watts. But I'll still take the original.
Avatar 2:50pm
AtlanticTunnel:

Kat......I came real close to playing that Bowie version n also his version of Waterloo Sunset but came up with a (I think) a better version...wait n see!!!!!!
  2:50pm

Not Anti Cornershop- they are good at what they do-just a Purist for such a perfect song you only want to hear as it is

Thumbs down on this version of Two Sisters. This guy can't handle the melody. Boooooooo!!

I once saw the Groovies work up Two Sisters up in rehearsal. It was great, but I don't think they ever performed it.

Gee, do I have to defend every cover I like? Eric takes Dave's drunken delivery to its logical endpoint.
Avatar 2:57pm

Double R....I just think this album is SO underated!!!!!!!!
Avatar 🎸 2:57pm

I agree with Frank on the Eric cover.

Something Else is one of my fav albums of all time so it's kinda hard to hear some of these... I did dig Wreckless Eric's Death of a Clown and I don't know him!!!

Don't worry Don. We all know you're in a cover band, so we know where you stand in the argument.

Avatar 3:04pm

Yes!
  3:04pm
Officer Pupp:

This Harry Rag cover is good - mind I don’t know the original.
  3:04pm
Double R:

I have a feeling all these people covering the Something Else songs aren't fans of the album, They just wanted exposure on Mojo. Much like those Loser's Lounge shows.
  3:04pm
Mitchell&Gayle:

OK, "Harry Rag" as a folk-trance song. I can get behind this.
Avatar 🎸 3:06pm
Don Ciccone:

Double R: One of these days take a look at how many "pointless" covers the Beatles recorded.
Avatar 3:06pm

Lilith212:

If anyone hasn't heard the original songs - i'd suggest to listen to them - to undesrstand better the defense of alot of the cover versions

Yes Don.. Everyone prefers the Beatles covers to their own compositions..
Avatar 3:07pm

Double R....When we started LL we were such music fans...It was so pleasing to bring music to people who shared the passion for our forgotten heros!
Avatar 🎸 3:08pm
Don Ciccone:

Many have no idea Beatles covers were not written by them, so yes, I would say they might prefer some.
  3:08pm
Double R:

ED---- but you can admit that people play Loser's Lounge for the exposure, not for the love of the artist that are playing tribute to.

I won't name any names, but I know some who have performed at Loser's Lounge whom I had to send them the song they were going to perform. And who has told me that they had no idea how good the artist they were honoring was. That doesn't seem in the spirit to me.

Well, at least that person got turned on to something new. And hopefully people in the audience did as well.

That's right Lilith. I think this Something Else tribute album suffers from Loser's Lounge-itis. I don't think these people love the Kinks. Maybe a couple of them. But then again I'm over protective of Kinks Music. The originals mean too much to me.
  3:31pm
Officer Pupp:

Just been Googling Loser’s Lounge, I’d never heard of it.
