I joke about dirty hippies a lot, but I *did* meet some yesterday! Or weird angry utopians, or *something*. I was pitching for a political candidate near a polling place for a few hours, and a middle-aged couple yelled at me for being "divisive" and said we needed "unity". I was like, what candidate are you for? And they were "that's the problem! No candidate! You're dividing us!!"

...WTF???

And then I realized... HIPPIES.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
Gary:

I grew up in California in the 60s-80s so I grok Hippie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm
Gary:

This track is from Chris Silver's compilation and MY GOD is it wonderful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
Ike:

Actually, I love to make fun of hippies, but I still wonder... *were* they hippies? The guy who yelled at me about abortion being murder was easy to write off, and the Russian guy who said we all just wanted free stuff and said that fascism would be better than communism was also easy to write off (though chilling), but that couple of "unity" weirdos will puzzle me forever, probably.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm
Ike:

Anyway, sounds great today!
Avatar 🇰🇷 7:44pm

"Candidates are bad—we're for unity" sounds like a weird combination of anarchism and Joe Manchin or something.
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 7:45pm
Zipperhead7:

That is so weird, Ike. Maybe they were Know-Nothings. I got stuck behind an asshole in a pickup today. He had a "Fuck Biden" sticker and another that said "Just an average Republican, working hard so you don't have to." I shouted "Full ramming speed, Captain!" but Ms. Zip said he probably had a gun and it wasn't worth dying for

The shape of your continent determines your personality and intellect. At least we can all agree on that, certainly. (Except, of course, for the influence of the stars that are no longer in the places in the sky where we see them. They also determine your personality, as well as your entire future life. But the continents are almost as important... unless your past lives chime in. But let's keep things simple on the comment board.)

Hey You Hippies! Don't bother to "get up" and "get a job" ...instead, simply slide into Give the Drummer Radio's next live program, Sam Segal's If You Lose Your Horse. Tonight's show: "The World Is Presence and Not Horse, Presence Is Not Mind" wfmu.org...

Gary, will Sam Segal promote Unity? If not, the hippies are going to go home to spin their Peter, Paul, & Mary LPs and sing along.

Gary:

Pretty sure Sam's pro-unity, but you'll have to ask

Gary, do you know, is this "West African Music in Britain" actually recorded in the UK??? Because it mostly sounds like rather "primitive" music that you wouldn't expect to find in London. Or is it from British colonies or something?

It was recorded in the UK, I think in London. But they brought people over from West Africa to record

I know there was a push by a musicologist to record Africans in London, either immigrants, temporary workers, or those in transit. Probably the same guy who recorded these....

Title makes them sound like immigrants ...refugees - what have you...
