I thought about your recording your asthma sounds today Kitten Sparkles. I was listening to Linus and the Little People and there is a section where it doesn't sound like instruments to me. kind of an industrial sound. Maybe the singer intentionally made different kinds of breathing sounds.

Mr Fab:

Greetings, sparklers!

For those of you who think that this isn't music, just remember that Joy Division used elevator sounds on a song on "Unknown Pleasures." So there!

13th floor elevators had pot wiggling around in an old ceramic jug too.

I'm pretty sure they did that on all their songs.

Oh crap! I realized I wasn't tuned into the Sheena's Jungle Room channel & slid into the wrong chat.😳😱

And Aerosmith did unspeakable things in one to research one of their hits
  5:32pm
Cheree July:

Anyway, I'm here now. I accidentally glistened in to another WFMU DJ's Glambiance.
Avatar 5:37pm
Debbie Davenport:

that must of been confusing, Cheree July.
  5:42pm
Cheree July:

Yep. It was. When I didn't hear Kitten talk yap, I was like, "What am I doing here? I'm listening to the wrong WFMU show?!"
Avatar 5:43pm
Debbie Davenport:

That reminds me of when some of us accidently started a parallel comment thread on a future show. You were part of that too maybe? I'm thinking it was me, Dolor-X and you. Maybe someone else too.
Avatar 5:45pm

Yje other channels are usually pretty different.

I;m missing a lot of my gear today. No cassettes or miniduscs,, both of which I use a lot.

Yeah, that's the second link, which I just found out about
  5:58pm
Cheree July:

Kitten, it was another WFMU DJ playing improvised experimental musical glambiance too. That's why I got confused.

Soma.fm had a similar stream called Earwaves that I liked a lot

Mr Fab:

wasn't the ubuweb stream just a random shuffle play of all the albums on ubuweb?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm
Rich in Washington:

I like some of Soma's channels, mind you, mainly because some of them are the few things the missus and I can listen to together. Didn't know about Earwaves, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
Rich in Washington:

Yes. It still is. It's so random that, while I like it, I can't usually listen to it for very long.

Also, Zoviet France's show is good for glambience as well zovietfrance.podbean.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm

Me too, but there are a lot of spoken word and lecture stuff that's sometimes not in English broken up by the occasional music or sound art piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm

That's funny, ultra - I was just gonna mention ZF's show on Resonance FM A Duck In A Tree.

I can't quite imagine Zoviet France live. What do they do, like, play instruments?!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:19pm
ultradamno:

@Fab there's some video on You Tube, they mess with records on turntables in a lot it. Guys at a table style www.youtube.com...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:19pm
ultradamno:

*of it
Avatar 6:27pm
Mr Fab:

ultradamno: ooh, they do the thing where they drill holes in records to play them off-center and it sounds all wibbly-wobbly. Didn't know ZF went for the Christian Marclay bit (who I have seen live)
Avatar 6:27pm
Kitten Sparkles:

Had to play some Zoviet France since you reminded me. They played electronic styff and tape loops. And there was a lady doing interprative Butoh or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm
Rich in Washington:

drilling holes in records is fun. Haven't quite gotten to the cut records into pieces and glue them together all wrong stage yet.
  6:31pm
Jeremy:

That Non/Smegma 7" is the first record I saw where you got to pick a spindle hole...oh yeah, hi!
Avatar 6:31pm
Mr Fab:

yeah, i don't know how that would work. I explained that concept to a DJ friend who said that several records glued together wouldn't have a single groove, so the needle would just jump all over.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:33pm

(speaking of needles jumping all over)
Avatar 6:34pm
Mr Fab:

Aargh, that pained me - totally destroying your needle!

But guess that's the price of art.
Avatar 6:49pm
Debbie Davenport:

There used to be a dj before me that would jump the needle around and wreck it and I would get so pissed. she thought she was artistic with it , different. she didn't do anything interesting or use interesting material. I tried to explain it's been done before and it's not fair to the other djs. orignal punk records are expensive and I had NO budget to buy them.
Those kind of experiences is why I always pledge money to creative djs that I get into.
Avatar 6:49pm
Kitten Sparkles:

Just gor a new cartridge. A new Ortofon elipticak that tracks lightly (3.0 - light for a DJ cartridge)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm
Rich in Washington:

I also like the old Residents trick of rigging up something (like coat hanger wire - can you even find wire coat hangers anymore?) to stop the stylus from traveling inward, thus making a loop wherever you place it.
Avatar 6:55pm
Mr Fab:

Christian Marclay does that by putting little sticker dots on the records to make 'em skip.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:59pm
ultradamno:

A good view of that can be seen from his Night Music appearance
Avatar 7:04pm
Debbie Davenport:

Culty.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:12pm
ultradamno:

@DD Yeah, in a situation like that, if you're intent on doing that, it's only decent to bring your own needle in.
Avatar 7:16pm
Debbie Davenport:

Thanks for saying something. I felt like a artless clod in here for a minute. I have a lot of patience for art and interest in it. That was just shitty to do on a shared turntable though. Plus she thought it all began with her. In the late 90's. that added to my pissed off Yosemite Sam mode.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
Rich in Washington:

I've been using the same industrial strength Shure cartridges for decades but now Shure's no longer making turntable cartridges. Yikes!
