Mr Fab:

"Atomic Platters" is a great, big boxed set of post-war nuke fear songs (well repped in the Sheena stream), but this reminds me that there very well could be a box of Reagan-ear Cold War-revival songs as well. Gotta include Sun Ra's "Nuclear War"!

I recently got the radio show which scared the crap out of me as a teen: Second Coming: Ronald Reagan and the Prophecy of Armageddon. It was on WBAI in the early 80s but played on lots of public radio stations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

Raymond Briggs' "When The Wind Blows" is a great comic book about the bomb.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
flannery:

Oh wow to both... how did you find the WBAI show?
Avatar 4:17pm
Ursula1000:

LOVE Anne Clark!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Rich in Washington:

I remember finding Hiroshima survivor Keiji Nakazawa's comic I Saw It and initially bought it because of its dark vibe and found the look of classic Japanese cartoon characters in such explicit gore 'funny' and then bought it, read it and cried my eyes out. Harrowing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
flannery:

wow would love to read, that sounds intense
  4:19pm
een_usa:

There’s an anime that I saw early on let me see if I can find it after we announce the tracks...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
Rich in Washington:

Oh, the WBAI show. I had to buy it. Like contacted Pacifica, had to pay them to digitize it and send me CDs. And it took like a year.
  4:20pm
een_usa:

Oh yeah it’s called “Barefoot Gen”!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
Rich in Washington:

The Nakazawa manga was also called Barefoot Gen in Japan. Manga wasn't a thing in the US for a while. I think it was 1981 that I bought it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
Rich in Washington:

I believe there's anime for it. I seem to recall renting it once in the 90s.
