LET MY PEOPLE
COME! ORIGINAL CAST RECORDING / "Let My People Come"
(Libra)

Wow, is this in need of a Waiting for Guffman-type movie or what? This 1974 way-off-Broadway show's words and music were written by someone named Earl Brown Jr., and if the idea of a Free Design-like AM radio ballad about coming out of the closet doesn't terrify, nothing else will. No mere smut record, Brown clearly had high aspirations for this show, hoping to take the tail of Hair and liberate all with his Kurt Weill-esque ode to crude body part references, and the painful "Cunnilingus Champion of Company C" (to the tune of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy From Company B"). It must have been more gut-wrenching to see all these over-emotive theater types in full nude action, cuz the record is sure rough enough.
