greetings Larry and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Funky16Corners:

They should bronze Ron Wood for that guitar opening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Funky16Corners:

Hey C!
  3:22pm Mark R:

The one time Rod let the Faces have one of the really great singles for their album instead of hogging it for his solo album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Mark!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Funky16Corners:

They were ON FIRE on this record. Every single bit of it is throwing flames.
Avatar 3:23pm StringOFperils:

Wooo hooo! This will never not kick serious butt. I'm the only one here right now, so this is CRANKED!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Candy-O'67:

Hey, String! Always been such an amazing song! And the words! hahahaha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Funky16Corners:

I read somewhere that this is like the second or third take, and then it was a keeper
Avatar 3:25pm Erica:

Rod Stewart is the MAN! His Faces stuff was much heavier than his solo stuff.
Avatar 3:25pm StringOFperils:

Beautifully loose, and probably pretty drunk too.
Avatar 3:26pm StringOFperils:

Oh man, you're on fire today Larry!
  3:26pm Mark R:

Hi Larry, enjoying the show very much so far. The Faces were an awful lot of fun live, sloppy tho they were--I suppose the sloppiness was part of the fun. I saw them on their last tour, and they literally rolled a bar out onstage, Rat Pack style. One of the volunteers I was answering phones with one Marathon had gotten to know Ian MacLagen very well and said he was a wonderful guy. In the last years of his life, Ian played a weekly bar gig in I think it was Austin. I agree, Erica--his solo albums during the Faces albums were fine with me, they had pretty much all the Faces on them, anyway, but that "If You Think I'm Sexy" shit is for the birds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Funky16Corners:

My concertgoing started a little too late to see the Faces, though I think I saw all of them in later incarnations (aside from Rod)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Funky16Corners:

BTW I was in the car this afternoon and heard Alice Cooper doing the VU's Rock and Roll! It was good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Funky16Corners:

I can feel my hair growing past my collar again!
Avatar 3:31pm StringOFperils:

Fantastic! Yer playin' my life. Sailin' Shoes. Wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm doctorjazz:

Great stuff!!!!
  3:32pm Mark R:

This first Little Feat album always catches me by surprise when I hear it on FMU--the vocals, especially, don't sound like the Feat I know. Of course, I didn't really discover them til "The Last Record Album," and their sound had changed a lot by then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Funky16Corners:

Early Little Feat has a lot of Rolling Stones in it
  3:34pm wendy del formaggio:

I fully support the playing of Steely Dan on the radio.
Avatar 3:34pm Erica:

Steely Dan!
  3:34pm Mark R:

When I was doing my overnight show, a listener chastised me one night for playing Steely Dan "unironically."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Funky16Corners:

Nothing ironic about it. I've been a huge Steely Dan fan since the beginning! MY wife is, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm doctorjazz:

Killing it!!!
Just What I Needed! (Hey, that would fit...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Funky16Corners:

No Cars today, but always welcome!
  3:36pm Mark R:

Funny, I was just listening to "Brooklyn blah blah the Charmer I forget the rest of the title" about an hour ago. That was on this album wasn't it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Funky16Corners:

Yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Funky16Corners:

Whatever happened to Denny Dias?
Avatar 3:37pm StringOFperils:

@ Mark R > Oh. That's just...literally deaf..
Avatar 3:37pm StringOFperils:

The ironic thing...
Avatar 3:38pm SquigY0:

definitely right place
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Funky16Corners:

Doctah JAHNNNNN the Night Trippah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm doctorjazz:

The Steely Dan guitar at that time was terrific!
  3:40pm Mark R:

Oh, you know, String, I guess it was too melodic or not weird enough or something. I've always found the actual FMU DJs a lot less snobby and elitist than some of our listeners. Most of the folks I've met at the station sort of like everything, no matter what they might be playing on their shows on any given day.
  3:40pm wendy del formaggio:

Yay Dr. John!
  3:41pm Mark R:

That was Skunk Baxter, Dr., when they were an actual band, before they just hired gunslingers for their sessions.
  3:42pm wendy del formaggio:

This set is making me dance at work, and my profession is not dancer.
Avatar 3:42pm Jeff Ash:

My head keeps going "I can name that song in x notes." Never gets to double digits. Sometimes doesn't get to 5.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Funky16Corners:

Non-professional dancers are always a good thing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Candy-O'67:

Always love Dr. John and this Redbone brings back memories of being a little kid in the '70's!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm listener Rey:

This set is hittin all the right spots!
Avatar 3:43pm StringOFperils:

All of this stuff is a solid reminder of how lucky I've been. The golden age. You poor sorry-assed Ariana Grande acolytes....oh man, Redbone...they were part of the first big concert I saw...with the J. Geils Band, and ...ha ha...the Charlie Daniels Band....yay Duluth, MINN !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Funky16Corners:

Every song in this set came out between when I was 9-11 years old (except for the next one)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Candy-O'67:

Yeah, String! You're a little older than me, but I'm so happy to have grown up in the Gold era, as well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Candy-O'67:

Larry, I was 4, 5, and 6 when songs in this set came out!!
  3:45pm wendy del formaggio:

I am a total amateur dancer. Pretty decent, though!
Avatar 3:45pm StringOFperils:

Redbone warmed up their set with a real Plains Indians drum circle for about 15 minutes. That was indigenous cool WAY ahead of its time. Props to those guys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Funky16Corners:

There's a clip of them on the Midnight Special starting like that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Candy-O'67:

Love She Pays the Rent! I really dig the modern Nomads' version also (Swedish or Norwegian - can't remember where they are from exactly. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Funky16Corners:

I think Norwegian
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm listener Rey:

I was 12 & 13, prime years for soaking up music, especially since I often went to bed w/ a transistor radio under my pillow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Candy-O'67:

Yeah, I've got a couple of their albums. I'll check...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm dutchtheo:

I think swedish, one of my favourite 80's band the Lyres
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Candy-O'67:

I agree, dutchtheo! I saw They Lyres in 2019 here in Austin just shortly before 2020. So happy I got to see them at Beer Land, a small club, and I was right up front, center stage. I talked to Jeff Conolly also at the bar before they played. He was a dry sense of humor kind of guy. I was crackin' up, too - had his organ set up on a milk crate! haha!
  3:52pm Mark R:

J.Geils was the first concert I ever saw, String--they were ALWAYS a lot of fun. Saw them another time a few years later and they were even better!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Funky16Corners:

Saw The Lyres a bunch of time at a bunch of different places, but the shows they did at Maxwells in Hoboken were legendary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Candy-O'67:

That's so awesome, Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Funky16Corners:

@Mark - One of the great party bands of all time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm dutchtheo:

The Lyres did some nice (dutch) Outsiders covers, i've seen them a couple of times in the 1980s, once Jeff was pretty drunk The Nomads were also a great live band
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Candy-O'67:

I can't believe I didn't ever see J. Geils! Mistake now!!! I didn't really get into them until way after they were popular in the '80's. Their '70's stuff was so awesome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Funky16Corners:

@Candy-O - I saw them there once where they played so long they started to repeat their set list
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Funky16Corners:

@Theo - I'm pretty sure Jeff was ALWAYS drunk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Candy-O'67:

I hear you, Larry! I could totally see that. I remember them playing forever when I saw them, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Funky16Corners:

Jeff was/is a serious record collector, so they had a deep well of obscure covers to draw from
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Candy-O'67:

I could testify to that, Larry! I would say he was that night in Austin! And I'm the sober one for a long time now. So, I can tell! ;)
Avatar 3:58pm StringOFperils:

Hah! This certainly helps ease the pain of yesterday. It ain't no cure, but it sure helps! Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Funky16Corners:

My pleasure,always!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Candy-O'67:

I also saw DMZ at the Shakedown in Vegas back in 2001.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm dutchtheo:

Yes that was Jeffs reputation. i saw J Geils on a festival in 1980 with Garland Jeffreys, Joe Jackson The Specials, Van Halen and The Jam...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Funky16Corners:

That's some bill!
Avatar 4:01pm StringOFperils:

How was Garland Jeffreys, dutchtheo?
  4:02pm ike p:

Thanks for a great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks Ike!
Avatar 4:03pm StringOFperils:

Ah, 1980...never mind, I'm sure he was great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm dutchtheo:

well it is a long time ago, but I think I liked him, Matador is what i remember but i do not have a record by him
  4:05pm CalZone!:

howdy LG!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Candy-O'67:

Hey, String, I've seen Garland Jeffries a couple of times at SXSW in recent years. He was still good, but I can only imagine how fab he would have been in his heyday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks, String. Seeing live music is my favorite hobby. I'm sure you've seen your fair share of amazing shows, too :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm coelacanth∅:

one of the other streams plays LOTS of pepsi ads. first, they're not interesting after the novelty of the first few
2nd pepsi doesn't deserve the free advertising
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Phillippe Bastille:

@coel I think they do Coke too (which does deserve free advertising)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm coelacanth∅:

you couldn't have thought i'd "ugh" for day after day right?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Phillippe Bastille:

shame on ya!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm coelacanth∅:

right i think i've heard some coke ads. not nearly as many.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Funky16Corners:

MEEEEE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Candy-O'67:

Me, too! LOL! I still have the CD!
  4:20pm phat:

Hearing Sublime for the first time in a very long time and they don't bug me nearly as I would have expected. Nostalgia does do things to a person.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Candy-O'67:

We just need some De La Soul thrown in now! I was a big fan of theirs back in the '80's
  4:20pm phat:

Urban Dance Squad, on the other hand, i would never expect to bother me. Damn this tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Funky16Corners:

I dig that record. Sad about the lead singer, though...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Funky16Corners:

Taking Ray Barretto and rebuilding it on a new frame
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm dutchtheo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Funky16Corners:

Yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm coelacanth∅:

i won't willingly listen to sublime. i never liked it but i gave it many open listens, their whole catalogue.
nope.

Hey two turntables.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm dutchtheo:

i expected Beck!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Funky16Corners:

I saw him in this tour, at Roseland in NYC. Tiny little Iggy Pop was standing right next to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm coelacanth∅:

i don't think i ever heard urban dance squad before.
that was alright!
Avatar 4:26pm Brian in UK:

This bluddy album is twenty five years old.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Funky16Corners:

Ain't that a bitch?
Avatar 4:26pm StringOFperils:

@BrianUK > I know. Scary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Funky16Corners:

I saw him on the Mellow Gold tour at the Trocadero in Philly. People were jumping up and down so much during Loser I thought the place was going to cave in
Avatar 4:28pm StringOFperils:

I was listening to Cibo Matto's Viva La Woman night before last. flipped it over for the release date. 1996. Same sense of the abyss. Where did the time go?
Avatar 4:28pm Brian in UK:

Loser, Trump's favourite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Candy-O'67:

And Beck! I had this CD, as well. I used to frequent his club Spaceland A LOT in LA. Lots of good shows there in Silverlake! They had the coolest lounge in the back of the bar that had glass windows around it and a glass door like going into a store anywhere. They would actually let you smoke in there after smoking was banned in bars. I didn't care for that part of it after I quit drinking and smoking. Fun times there, for sure!
Avatar 4:30pm Brian in UK:

Is this a Farfisa?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - I think his playlist starts and ends with Deutschland Uber Alles...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Funky16Corners:

That or a Vox
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Candy-O'67:

I saw Beck just once, I think, back in Houston at the oldest and most well-known Goth club called #'s. They had lots of good shows there in the '90's after goth was out and I saw a ton of bands there in the '80's and '90's, all goth in the '80's, of course!
Avatar 4:32pm Sem:

Whew, just in time for Doug and the Lads.

Wooohoo, thanks for the TX bands in this set, Larry!! I've seen Rudy T from ? play at Ponderosa Stomp, I think (if I remember right) and definitely in Austin at Antone's
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Funky16Corners:

I think this is a Vox. Every time I saw Doug, Augie was playing a Vox
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Funky16Corners:

Whatup 126464!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm dutchtheo:

Hi Larry, great selections!
Avatar 4:35pm Brian in UK:

Oh man, I cannot get past Otis' demo of this, sooo good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Funky16Corners:

This is from a comp of unreleased stuff that Atlantic put out back in the early 2000s
Avatar 4:38pm John from NP:

TESTIFY!! happy new year, larry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Candy-O'67:

I'm gonna put that comp on my list to check out, Larry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Funky16Corners:

Hey John! Happy New Year!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Candy-O'67:

Larry, if you're ever out in LA after this pandemic is over, you've got to check out The Magnificent if they have a show when you are there. They do a Sam & Dave duo and have several people and go-go dancers on stage. Manfred from the Woggles is part of the duo singing lead. Super fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Funky16Corners:

I've heard of them! They look cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Candy-O'67:

I've seen them a gazillion times! Lots when I used to live out there
Avatar 4:43pm Brian in UK:

Oh to go out and hear live music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Candy-O'67:

I'm diggin' this organ solo right now on Fire Eater!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Funky16Corners:

It's a guy named Bill Mason who I am not familiar with. He's cookin'!
Avatar 4:44pm Erica:

That organ solo was long.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Candy-O'67:

He sure is!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Funky16Corners:

Idris Muhammad on drums!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm listener Rey:

Fantastic drum break!
Avatar 4:47pm JB from NP:

BEASTIES!! FOR ME??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Funky16Corners:

That drum break is the sole reason that record is so hard to find and expensive
Avatar 4:50pm Brian in UK:

There was an English band called Jody Grind, named from this track?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Funky16Corners:

Not sure, bit I wouldn't be surprised
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Funky16Corners:

Google says that the name is a contraction of "Joe the Grinder" a mythical "back door man" of the blues
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm dutchtheo:

Thanks, Larry! That was fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Funky16Corners:
