Avatar 3:02am Jesse Dorris:

he-he-helloooo everyone, happy 2021!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02am Zetti:

Cool. It's time to turn on the big stereo. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03am Zetti:

Oh shit. That's thyme1
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04am Zetti:

And Rosemary
Avatar 3:05am Jesse Dorris:

Rosemary called Thyme and Thyme called Time, it's all very confusing
  3:13am David in London:

Morning all Glotals. Happy new year Jesse!
Avatar 3:14am Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hello Jesse, happy new year
hi Zetti, David!
Avatar 3:15am Jesse Dorris:

Happy New Year, David and Sylvia and Zetti!
  3:18am David in London:

Salut Sylvia!
  3:22am David in London:

I love an out of control xylophone.
Avatar 3:22am Jesse Dorris:

Yeah the overtones in that Hennies piece are WILD
Avatar 3:25am Sylvia (France-NYC):

I find it hard to dream during a lasting pandemic
Avatar 3:32am Jesse Dorris:

I've definitely been having recurring dreams mirroring the recurring days.
Avatar 3:41am Sylvia (France-NYC):

I meant dreaming as in hoping. I dream a lot + nightmares
  3:50am Surgeon:

Happy New Year Jesse and all Glotals!!!
  3:50am David in London:

Yeah, the horizon of dreams (in the aspirational sense) is a rather shrunken one at present. ‘A nice walk at the weekend’ is about as far as it goes at present. Not to decry a nice walk at all, but it ain’t moving the culture on. Sigh.
Avatar 3:51am Sylvia (France-NYC):

there was a line about dreaming being all we have on the Eli Escobar track, that's why I said that
Avatar 3:54am Jesse Dorris:

Happy New Year, Surgeon!
Avatar 3:54am Jesse Dorris:

Time to shake off the fog and start dreaming!
Avatar 3:55am Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hi Surgeon, Happy New Year!
Avatar 3:57am Sylvia (France-NYC):

oh, that's good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03am fionnland:

Happy New Year, Jesse and the Glotals! Always the best way to start Tuesdays
Avatar 4:07am Jesse Dorris:

Hey Fionnland, and also to you! Glad to have you aboard as we move into 2021!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08am Matthew_London:

He-he-happy new year all!
Avatar 4:09am Jesse Dorris:

Happy 2021 Matthew!
  4:11am David in London:

Howdy fionnland and Matthew.
Avatar 4:16am Sylvia (France-NYC):

oh man, the single Le Dormeur was playing all the time everywhere in France
Avatar 4:17am Sylvia (France-NYC):

Happy New Year fionnland and Matthew!
Avatar 4:23am wizard frog:

Happy New Year!

(btw Jesse always wanted to ask, how would you describe the 'aesthetic' of your playlist cover images? I've noticed a big trend with these kind of retro-y images but not sure where they all originate from. Similar to the images on this instagram too: www.instagram.com... )
Avatar 4:27am Jesse Dorris:

Hey Wizard, Happy New Year!

Hmm, that's a good question. Personally, I guess I sort of think of them as post-Brutalist? Mixing up the grid of Modernism, the appropriation of postmodernism, and the glitch of like Designers Republic?
Avatar 4:28am Jesse Dorris:

That Terra Cotta Prints page is really super!
Avatar 4:28am wizard frog:

Oh, post Brutalist is an interesting way of putting it! Thanks!
Avatar 4:32am Jesse Dorris:

Thanks for asking :) I don't exactly know what I'm doing with them but it's fun to try something each week.
Avatar 4:48am HyperDose:

Who has the thyme?
Avatar 4:49am Jesse Dorris:

Doublethyme!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59am fionnland:

Happy new year David and Sylvia! Lost myself in that last track and nearly forgot about my 10am call - thank you Jesse! Fab start to the day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03am David (in London):

Is BellaBoo related to Betty Boo in any way? I do hope so.
Avatar 5:05am HyperDose:

Hey David. I was about to ask if you were burning the midnight oil, then I realized it's almost lunch there!
Avatar 5:05am Jesse Dorris:

I don't *think* she's doing's the do? She's Swedish and associated with that Studio Barnhus scene....
Avatar 5:05am Jesse Dorris:

Haha sorry about that @Fionnland!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09am fred:

Hello Jesse and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09am David (in London):

HyperDose, no, it's morning coffee time here, so no midnight oil needed. Are you Stateside? Whereabouts?

Jesse, let's just imagine them as a distant overseas branch of the Boo family then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09am David (in London):

hi fred.
Avatar 5:13am Jesse Dorris:

Hey Fred!
Avatar 5:13am Sylvia (France-NYC):

you want to write and sing songs and then you end up spending hours filling forms on one of the least attractive website of all, the US Copyright one
Avatar 5:13am Sylvia (France-NYC):

thankfully Jesse is providing nice soundtrack to bureaucracy
Avatar 5:13am Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hi fred!
  5:14am kpx:

@Jesse Dorris: not being familiar with you or your show this might seem to be a dumb question, are you really a polyglot , besides English what are the other languages you speak and do you speak them fluently. and have you ever known or met a hyperpolyglot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14am fred:

@Jesse: did you watch the dance show I talked about last week?
Avatar 5:18am HyperDose:

@David Hope you're enjoying it with a nice view! I'm up in Jersey, a short train ride from WFMU HQ (hire me, Ken!).
Had a dream I don't remember, but woke up with a piano part in my head. Raced to the PC to "write" it down. Now I'm letting DJ JD take me away on a magic carpet of aural bliss.
Avatar 5:22am Jesse Dorris:

@kpx I'm shamefully limited, with a bit of Spanish and French but not nearly enough, and used to have a bit of Japanese but that's probably flown from my head. I picked the name bc I wanted to think through what a polyglot of sound might be, different musical languages, if that's not too ridiculous.
Avatar 5:22am Jesse Dorris:

Ahh Fred in all the holidays I did not see it, how was it?
Avatar 5:23am Jesse Dorris:

Glad the show is helping you work through the red tape Sylvia!
Avatar 5:23am Jesse Dorris:

Hope you captured it @Hyperdose!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24am fred:

@kpx: most people at my workplace speak three languages fluently (English, French and their native one), many speak four or five at least competently, some more than that. I guess the precarious research life is a factor (I'm one of the outliers, and not in a good way)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25am David (in London):

Well, that's exactly how I think of Polyglot Jesse, so you've pretty much succeeded there.

HyperDose, ah, you're Jersey strong (as The Pidge would say). Yeah, hope you managed to get the piano part down before the sound image faded.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31am fred:

@Jesse: I liked it, though it's nowhere the live experience. They seem to get better at filming it correctly, going lighter on close ups. You have a few more chances, though the times might not be great. Here's a link to the schedule (there's a 6 hour time difference, so today's at is 1pm for you, tomorrow at noon, Friday 8:30am and Saturday at 9am) www.theatredelaville-paris.com...
  5:33am Caroline in Manchester:

this is my first time listening to this show and it's perfect coding music. thanks jesse!
  5:33am kpx:

@Jesse Dorris: I couldn't even begin to approach the thought of criticism. So no, not ridiculous at all, sounds like you have more than enough lingual knowledge to achieve your goal.
Avatar 5:34am Jesse Dorris:

Ooh thanks @Fred, hopefully I can watch!
Avatar 5:34am Jesse Dorris:

Aww thanks @Caroline, glad to have you along for the ride!
Avatar 5:35am Jesse Dorris:

Well @kpx I definitely wish I had more fluency
Avatar 5:40am HyperDose:

Jesse & David I did! It's an exciting time. A childhood friend who finished music school shortly after I did finally got a new laptop. So we're getting back into it after a 2yr layoff. And we're more motivated than ever to write again after the crap show of 2020.
Avatar 5:44am Jesse Dorris:

Nice, congrats!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45am fred:

@Jesse: It was first supposed to be a one off, but because the dancers were frustrated at not performing, they expanded the schedule several times, with different hours so that it could reach more time zones. So they perform live each time, though without an actual audience
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46am David (in London):

HyperDose, absolutely. Working on our last 'single' definitely improved the quality of the summer for me: a goal, focus, sense of achievement etc. At the moment it's almost overwhelmingly tempting to collapse into a lumpy slump, but get to those keys and get busy instead!
  5:52am Kpx:

@Fred: I couldn't even imagine meeting one hyperpolyglot let alone working with several of them on a regular basis. You say you're an outlier, by comparison that puts me on a different planet..
Avatar 5:52am HyperDose:

A few years ago my school closed and with it we lost the alumni network and their great connections. WFMU is a treasure trove of fellow like-minded artists and creative types. The accu-chat is an invaluable tool for network building!
Avatar 5:53am Jesse Dorris:

Indeed it's full of lovely people!
Avatar 5:54am Jesse Dorris:

That's it for me this week! Thank you for your ears. I hope 2021 has begun swimmingly for you all. Stay safe! Until next week....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56am David (in London):

Thanks Jesse, a great show to welcome us to Tuesdays in 2021. See you next week.
Avatar 5:57am Sylvia (France-NYC):

thank you, Jesse, have a nice week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58am fred:

@Kpx: Most conversation defaults to English (or French), luckily for me. Most confusing time was meeting with a one time girlfriend's cousin: I spoke English and French, she Arabic and French, and he Arabic and English. No common language, and switching is really hard for me.
But yeah, it can get weird when these people easily switch from one language to another in the same group. I'm completely lost, even get confused when my native French happens to be used
Avatar 5:58am HyperDose:

Thanks for the hang Jesse!
  6:00am Kpx:

And a Coo Coo to you to pigeon man
