I think several of the Mersey acts possibly became a little too closely associated with the Saturday Night at the London Palladium / light entertainment end of the spectrum (here in the UK at least), which meant that the nascent 'counter culture' very quickly started to avoid them. Joe, he was a classmate of Lennon's and he presented the London Palladium variety show on TV. Hence why a lot of the Mersey acts appeared there. Personally I quite like 'Tarby', but once the Stones were starting to outrage the nation's morals, if you were associated with Tarby you probably looked a long way from cool.

I have no problem with his voice. All voices are stylized in some way. It's an instrument, and I dig what he does with it. Not a super-deep fan but can listen to most of the early stuff through Signals pretty happily.

@Handy First Rush I listened to extensively was All The World's A Stage. A friend gave me a cassette coy of it and I took it with me for a summer on Cape Cod. Nothing like waking myself up to that just after opening the Cumberland Farms store at 6AM and having a loser's breakfast of twinkies and a bottle of Pepsi.

Rush actually benefitted from Casablanca Records passing on them. Casablanca were all about the spectacle and not the music.
