Avatar 6:01am Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hello and happy holidays, Jeffrey, Ruth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03am Jeffrey Davison:

Happy Boxing Day, all! Just for the record, I found out that Ruth has taken the weekend off, and Darren is the board op this morning. Please ignore any later shoutouts to Ruth for being at the station. How dare she get some downtime! Good morning Darren and thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Sylvia!
Avatar 6:03am Heidee:

Merry Christmas holidays, Jeffrey, Darren, friends!
Hi Sylvia!
Avatar 6:04am Sylvia (France-NYC):

Oh, Hello Darren then! and Happy holidays to you too!
Avatar 6:04am Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hi Heidee :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Heidee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07am Jeffrey Davison:

Christmas music from the planet Nebulon.
Avatar 6:07am Heidee:

Oh , this is nice. I feel like walking in an ice palace.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17am Zetti:

Hello all! RIP Harold Budd :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Zetti! Budd was scheduled to play two nights at St. George's Church last year, and I was going to go to one of those. They were cancelled, I believe for health reasons.
Avatar 6:21am TDK60:

Good merry morning Jeffrey and Planeteers. Good to awake to Harold Budd.
Avatar 6:22am Heidee:

White-ish Christmas at Jeffrey's! ⭐️
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning TDK60!
@Heidee: almost all the snow is gone, except for those big grey piles that the Sanitation Dept. makes...
Avatar 6:27am Heidee:

It's pretty!
Avatar 6:31am TDK60:

Jeffrey is that a Brooklyn scene? I like the absence of tall buildings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32am Zetti:

@Jeffrey. I heard about that concert. I think it was here on your show. I thought... that would be a special performance, years in the waiting, well worth the trip to NYC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33am Jeffrey Davison:

@Heidee and TDK60: Thanks! Shot in Tompkins Square Park, in the East Village, a few days ago. Those buildings are on East 10th Street, the northern end of the park.
Avatar 6:34am TDK60:

Ah, I was thinking it looks similar to a scene I know, was going to say it could also be lower Manhattan. Tomkins Sq. Pk. I walk through often when visiting friends. A lot of history in that park!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34am Zetti:

I see the park is still fenced off?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35am p/b:

GM Jeffrey FMUnivese - that does look like Carroll Park. Love from down the street to everywhere else. Let's keep it together...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35am Jeffrey Davison:

@Zetti: I knew Budd was an older gent, but didn't realize how up in years he was at the time of the scheduled concert. RIP Harold Budd.
Avatar 6:36am TDK60:

Zetti, that's a playground area usually inhabited by skateboarders.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36am Zetti:

I see. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39am Jeffrey Davison:

Anne Sulikowski has been recording since 2003, as Building Castles Out Of Matchsticks. Seems to still recording under this name as well as her real name.
Avatar 6:41am TDK60:

Ok, one alias, not a 2nd, seems reasonable by early 21st Century standards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning p/b. I love Carroll Gardens!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43am Jeffrey Davison:

@TDK60: yes, the musician's union should put a limit on these kinds of things! It's out of control.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46am Jeffrey Davison:

Not paying attention, I "ended" the Jana & Sarma piece too early. Now it's Anne Sulikowski....
  6:52am ignatatus666:

91.9 fm is back up
For now!!!
  6:52am ignatatus666:

Greetings Jeffrey
Yuletide Blessings
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning ignatatus666 and happy holidays to you! Good news about 91.9, too. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59am Jeffrey Davison:

Damn. I'm really out of it this morning. No coffee yet. I forgot to put in the Kyle Sheffield piece into the playlist.
Avatar 7:02am Andrew in Toronto:

Good morning Jeffrey and all other Planeteers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02am People Like Us:

it's also Boxing Day
Avatar 7:03am Sylvia (France-NYC):

epiphany is the excuse to have King's cake (galette des rois)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03am People Like Us:

... which means absolutely nothing whatsoever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Andrew in Toronto, and People Like Us!
Avatar 7:04am TDK60:

The English have a Boxing Day. And I heard some song that says there are 12 days of Christmas, so pass the eggnog and continue the shrubbery cult.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04am People Like Us:

Avatar 7:04am Sylvia (France-NYC):

Morning Vicki
  7:04am ignatatus666:

Another station was cutting in
You said Darren is in not Ruth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05am Stanley:

Good morning everyone
  7:05am ignatatus666:

So 91.9 is still down :(
Avatar 7:08am Sylvia (France-NYC):

I like the mood of Lonely Bell (I see it's from Scotland, you can certainly hear the Mogwai influence)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08am Jeffrey Davison:

ignatatus666: yeah, I wasn't sure that you were correct, but thought that maybe someone had worked on it late yesterday. The wind was pretty bad the other day and did damage to some FMU equipment.
Avatar 7:08am Sylvia (France-NYC):

(unless it's the other way around)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09am Jeffrey Davison:

Sylvia, no...you had it right the first time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10am Jeffrey Davison:

@TDK60: I am one of the Knights Who Say Ni.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Stanley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11am Kevin-san:

Boxing Day greetings to those observing! The joy of cold mince pies for breakfast!! (with or without brandy butter)
Avatar 7:12am TDK60:

Jeffrey: haha. Shouldn't it be 'nyh'?.. looks more olde Anglish. We do need more shrubbery!
Avatar 7:13am Heidee:

Sylvia, is the galette des rois the one with a little figure baked inside?
Avatar 7:13am duke:

Happy Boxing Day Paneteers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14am Jeffrey Davison:

Kevin-san, good morning! Damn, wish I had a slice of mince pie right about now.
TDK60, as far as I know, it's Ni. I could use a bit of shrubbery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning duke!
Avatar 7:17am TDK60:

Happy Kwanzaa. I see it's also Day of the Wren in Ireland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19am Jeffrey Davison:

TDK60: never heard of Day of the Wren. I like that. Thanks!
Avatar 7:21am TDK60:

Irish day of the wren is St. Stephen's day in other parts of Europe.
Avatar 7:22am Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Heidee yes! "la fève", at first it was a dried fava bean, now you find little ceramic characters. they can be biblical representation, or licensed characters from Disney and such.
Whoever gets la fève becomes King/Queen for the day, and gets to wear a paper crown (sold with the pastry)
Avatar 7:22am Zoot:

There is a Day of the Wren song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23am Jeffrey Davison:

TDK60: so the wren flew to Europe and became St. Stephen? I don't remember that from my catechism.
Avatar 7:24am Sylvia (France-NYC):

the tradition says youngest guest has to go under the dining table, and pick slices for each guest (under the table so there's no cheating, in case la fève can be seen from the sliced galette)
Avatar 7:25am Zoot:

The wren was looking for a favs bean.
Avatar 7:25am Heidee:

Oh, Sylvia, this is a fine tradition from bonnie France!
Avatar 7:25am Zoot:

Avatar 7:26am Sylvia (France-NYC):

and, when you get la fève you have to buy the next galette :) and it goes on and on until bakeries stop making them, end of Jan (but you can make your own!)
Swag For Life Member 7:26am Ted in Montclair:

Bonjour Jeffrey and all on this cold and clear holiday morning. Hope all are good.
Avatar 7:26am Sylvia (France-NYC):

yes, Heidee, for once it's a French tradition I enjoy
Avatar 7:27am Strandlund:

Good Morning Jeffrey and all from the chili Midwest!!
Avatar 7:27am Heidee:

Where can I find a recipe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Ted in Montclair and Strandlund!
Avatar 7:28am Heidee:

Maybe you can pass it on on Sunday? :-)
Avatar 7:28am Sylvia (France-NYC):

then you start eating crêpes and fried donuts for Fat Tuesday in February :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29am Jeffrey Davison:

Sylvia...it's sounding better and better!
Avatar 7:30am Zoot:

Suns not yellow it’s chicken.
Avatar 7:30am TDK60:

Robin Williamson (Incredible String Band orig.) has a song "Hunting the Wren" on his album "Winter's Turning." (1986)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30am Jeffrey Davison:

Zoot: I forgot that Dylan line!
Avatar 7:31am Zoot:

Great harp albums by Robin
Avatar 7:31am Sylvia (France-NYC):

There are two different sorts: the most famous one is la galette parisienne, made with two puff pastries and an almond filling, the other one is from South East region of Provence, it's brioche like, with candied fruits on top (sometimes inside as well), and it's wreath-shaped, it's called la couronne des rois (the Kings' crown, in reference to the 3 Wise Men)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32am Jeffrey Davison:

TDK60: I played something last week that may have been a version, with vocals.
Avatar 7:32am Heidee:

Oh so yum!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33am Rock Ridge Chess Club:

Just popping in to say good morning before leaning on the coffee crutch.
Avatar 7:33am Sylvia (France-NYC):

you can see both on the Wikipedia page for King's Cake en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Rock Ridge Chess Club!
Avatar 7:35am TDK60:

Ah Jeffrey, missed; which artist? Wren Day is Lá an Dreoilín in Irish.
Avatar 7:35am Zoot:

Gotta get me a Fez.
Avatar 7:35am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Good Shrubberies & Boxes & KingCake Beans beneath Tables & Wrens & Skater Lots to All - especially Darren.
A warm, wet & resolutely grey backside of a most peculiar year indeed - a grim rupture in society's regularly scheduled programs...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Revolution Rabbit Nov63!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38am Rock Ridge Chess Club:

@Zoot Not that I subscribe to phrenology, but I've noticed that every time I stumble upon a fez in a thrift shop, they are for tiny tiny heads. Admittedly my head is on the jugular end of the spectrum. Best of luck!
Avatar 7:39am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Love Robin Williamson's 'Five Denials On Merlin's Grave'. I had one person tell me he's the most remarkable musician they'd ever seen - or something like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39am Jeffrey Davison:

TDK60: the piece by Burd Ellen...
Avatar 7:39am TDK60:

Revrab- a mystical shrubbery shake at ya, fir needles all over the rug..
Avatar 7:42am TDK60:

Thanks Jeffrey, will go re-listen later..
Avatar 7:42am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...heard about King's Cake in New Orleans I think - little plastic babies...
Avatar 7:42am Zoot:

Rock Ridge: those are the monkey head fez.az probably has them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46am Jeffrey Davison:

My late friend Joe Curtin was the first person I ever knew who had a fez. I think he bought it at a local thrift shop when he was still in high school. This was 1976 or 77.
Avatar 7:50am Bas NL:

Hi Jeffrey! Hi Darren! All! Best holiday wishes!
Avatar 7:50am Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63 in New Orleans, they have King's Cake in March during the carnival if I'm not mistaken, and it's a very different recipe than the two French ones
Avatar 7:51am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

A Fez should come with a Pez - which is a Box to dispense candies - or a Fuzz - a Box for distortions...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53am Deborah:

Good Morning!

Briskly cold here in Montclair. Finally going to a museum today!
Avatar 7:54am TDK60:

Sylvia- Probably they don't have King's cake/galette des rois at my local bakery, but you've influenced me to go get some pastries at least.
Avatar 7:55am Zoot:

Pez been around for about 90 years I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Bas NL, listener Paul and Deborah!
  7:57am Bill D:

Good morning . I never miss this show .
Listening on the web since 90.1 totally out . Not even static.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57am HyperDose:

Good morning everyone! Hope you're all staying warm this frigid dawn. i1.wp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57am Jeffrey Davison:

Rev: I always wear a fez when I'm having mezze.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58am Deborah:

The photo reflects the isolation that we might feel even though buildings are practically attached to each other.
Avatar 7:58am Sylvia (France-NYC):

@TDK60 last year I was in NYC so I got one at Eric Kayser's, it was ok but overpriced. (i think they've closed all the stores and bankrupted since?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning HyperDose and Bill D!
Avatar 7:59am Sylvia (France-NYC):

these two sets have been a welcome quietness, Jeffrey
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59am Jeffrey Davison:

Once again, listeners, Ruth is taking the weekend off. Darren is at the Mothership.
Avatar 8:00am Heidee:

Lewis is beautiful and beautiful, so is Harris. Lots of great traditions there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00am dale:

morning. 90.1 still down. yesterdy when it was dropping out it was dropping out on alexa too so i assume it's a feed problem. for some reason i got you on the squeezebox though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01am Jeffrey Davison:

Sylvia: I do believe Maison Kayser has gone bankrupt. Went there once or twice. Enjoyed what I bought but expensive, yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning dale! Yes, wind-related damage to FMU gear there and elsewhere, unfortunately.
Avatar 8:04am Sylvia (France-NYC):

they still have stores in Paris, I think they opened too many in Manhattan and pandemic was a great alibi to go bankrupt. Prices were too high for what's regular pastries and bread in France, not even high end. Bread is better at Amy's Bread.
Avatar 8:04am Heidee:

Ha ha the comparison with the seatbelts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05am Jeffrey Davison:

Sylvia, yes...it seemed that all of a sudden their bakeries were everywhere. A very common way to go out of business in the last decade or so...
Avatar 8:05am Sylvia (France-NYC):

oh, that's pretty sounding
Avatar 8:06am Strandlund:

I hope the idiots that don't wear masks were listening, Jeffery...Good Advise!
Avatar 8:07am TDK60:

I saw a photo of a wall sticker in Oaxaca, Mexico, directed at tourists who come this time of year from el norte: "Wear your f*cking mask, gringo."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07am Baja Joe:

That was a classic soft rant. Thank you Jeffrey. I always listen but rarely chime in on the Accu-Playlist thingy. I just had to give you props. Happy holidays!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07am Jeffrey Davison:

Strandlund: those masks are SO heavy.
Avatar 8:08am Zoot:

Good morning, Jeffrey, and all on this shrunken planet. Hello, Ruth.
Lovin' the vibe of today's show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08am Jeffrey Davison:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10am Baja Joe:

Hah ha! Don't tell me I have to sit inside the plane!
  8:10am melinda:

Morning everyone
  8:10am Noel:

I need some boots because a ton of bs just came out of my radio. When people ask you if it's raining, look out the window, not at a screen.
Avatar 8:12am Zoot:

Box of rain, look out of any window
Avatar 8:12am Heidee:

love the pan drum
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13am Jeffrey Davison:

Paul: I think the person had some nervous disorder and probably shouldn't have been in a plane. They opened the door while on the runway and took the slide. Maybe it was two people? And a dog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15am Jeffrey Davison:

Noel: English please.
Avatar 8:15am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yerknow - a real Leader would - without sensationalism - address the nation - take a camera to the piles of body bags - interview the fried health workers - & grieving families
- & say if you don't simply mask & distance - you are an accomplice to mass murder - & you have no right to call yourself a Patriot.
Avatar 8:15am Zoot:

Stereosenic?is that like Diorama?
  8:16am Noel:

Believe it if you need it. If you don't, just pass it on.
  8:17am Noel:

Yeah, nobody understands metaphors anymore.
Avatar 8:18am Strandlund:

@Revolution Rabbit Nov63...Well said!
Avatar 8:18am Heidee:

Go lick your sad wounds, Noel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19am Jeffrey Davison:

Noel, not true, but there is more than one thread here, and lots of things said, so oblique references posing are hidden metaphors at best.
Avatar 8:19am TDK60:

If the Irish wren mummer walks aren't canceled, I hope they stay physically distanced.

Avatar 8:25am Zoot:

I saw Gran Prix there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26am Brian in UK:

Hello Jeffrey. Glad you are around. (a round what, I know not!)
  8:26am The Butterman:

Morning g all. Noel, nice! It’s not every day you see someone dropping a Box of Rain reference. We want Phil! We want Phil!
  8:26am Noel:

I'm asking how many you know personally have died from it. Most would say 0 or 1. It's not enough to justify the harm done by becoming North Korea.
  8:26am Bill D:

I worked right by the Maison Kayser on 41/ Lex before I retired earlier in the year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27am Deborah:

@Noel: Have to disagree re metaphor understanding. Some of my college students understand innately, some by learning. Sweeping generalizations make my skin cringe; that is not a metaphor.
  8:27am Crei6hton:

Morning WFMU
  8:28am Noel:

Thanks to Zoot (from MPHG) for reminding me of it.
  8:28am BillD:

Love the seat belt and roller coaster metaphor!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29am joe mulligan:

noel thats an unfair and un-noel question. I know three
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30am Jeffrey Davison:

Noel: when American soldiers, sailors and airmen died in WW2, for instance, it didn't have to be your brother, uncle or father. It was another American. That was all you needed to know, and everyone suffered. That's when we were one country. Not sure what kind of country this is any longer.
Avatar 8:31am Zoot:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31am Jeffrey Davison:

Also, I do know people who got it, and some who were very sick from it. I got it, but I'm still here. There are millions that aren't, around the world, and a frightful number here. And the hospitals are at or near capacity.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37am Jeffrey Davison:

Brian in UK, I don't know it...
  8:37am Noel:

Well, we should outlaw cars, then. We live on a planet; we have to be able to work. I have no idea how to pay my bills because my work got cut.
  8:37am Wfmu. listener paul:

@Sylvia france i would think that is the rest if the station:)
@Joe i still stay away from it. but if someone like noel wants to go there, more power to him

noel: cars are regulated, we don't just let anyone drive one anywhere. i'm sorry you are out of work. and sorry our gov't won't take care of people
  8:40am Noel:

Well, Joe, if DJs didn't act like they had the answers to controversial problems, it wouldn't happen during such good music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40am Jeffrey Davison:

Noel: that's a different issue, and I don't have an answer for that, unfortunately, no more than I have an answer for vaccine research and distribution, restaurants and other businesses staying open, and relief bills from Congress. I wish you the best, and hope that the new year brings relief for you and all who are in straitened circumstances. Forget the car thing...it's a bad comparison.

I’m pretty sure “they let just about anybody drive”. I mean I must say that any time I’m driving. Also, “hey you damn kids!”

Beautiful pick today, Jeffrey. Tasteful, ethereal. On to better times, all. Enjoy the season. Going for a walk in the woods with our dog, crystal clear air. Time to breathe. x

Noel: I made a few sarcastic comments. Nothing about having the answers to anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43am YETI BOB:

If there had been a more serious response early on, rather than all the mixed messages, finger-pointing and confusion, we'd probably be done with this thing by now (like in China).

If someone wants to wear a full hazmat suit, they are free to do it. Everyone should be free to make their own choices about this.
Avatar 8:44am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Noel are you a John Prine fan? He died of it.
The numbers of dead are higher than for war dead combined. & it didn't have to be. If the pandemic had been dealt with responsibly & realistically - the economy & our jobs would be in a much better place. Everyone knew what would happen to both health & business - but it's a catastrophic failure of leadership - a tidal wave of lies & disinformation. God Help Us All my friend. Don't be the last to die or kill before vaccines arrive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44am YETI BOB:

Noel: In a civil society, you are not free to make choices that endanger others. We've got some screwy ideas about "freedom" in the USA
  8:45am Noel:

I am serious.
Avatar 8:45am Zoot:
