I have no opinion about coffee, but Wawa, though it's a good name, is not as good a name as Sheetz, which itself is not as good as Kum & Go or Town Pump. Yes, those are real!

Wawa, Ontario. Home of Canada's largest goose sculpture. I don't recall if the coffee there was any good.

they barely had time to mention the good stuff never mind the bad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Krys O.:

The Bee Gees Storytellers from VH-1 in 1997 was really good as was there Vegas concert from that time.
Avatar 12:40pm Pseu Braun:

Krys, agreed, that was a magnificent show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Dennis Diken:

hi Pseu and all! I, for one, would totally be into an hour about Cucumber Castle (I know, I know)...but I don't think they even mentioned it if I recall? and no mention of Robin's Reign? was "Saved By The Bell" a decent-sized hit in the UK? I enjoyed the doc nonetheless, lots of footage I've never seen before
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Chop Scott:

Good Afternoon Pseu! I raise my coffee beaker to you.
Avatar 12:44pm Pseu Braun:

Hey Chop Scott!! DD, correct no mention of CC or Robin's Reign...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm McGroovey:

Well this (Spirits Having Flown) is an OK BeeGees song. I've always assumed that pretty much everything after they started doing the disco was not with biting with.

All This Making Love sounds like ELO. That's a good thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Krys O.:

Damn! Robin's Reign was such an innovative album.

The Brilliant from Birth CD set is going for almost $1K on Amazon. That's really comprehensive with their early career as Australian child stars.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Jason from Houston:

Dang... No Robin's Reign is a bummer.
  12:47pm ww:

Hey Pseu and dedicated Snow Hookers. Pseu, I am sensing a complicated relationship with the Brothers Gibb.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Jason from Houston:

Hahaha... Sounds like some of us need to make a documentary about Robin's Reign.
  12:47pm m:

So one thing that really stood out to me in the Bee Gees doc was the commentary about the disco sucks movement being rooted in racist and homophobic beliefs. I'd never heard this before and was intrigued. Is this one guy's opinion or is this a widely accepted view?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Yes:

I love the beegees?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Krys O.:

I used to play stuff off the One album from 1989 on my show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Krys O.:

Almost forgot about E.S.P. from 1987. They were too talented for this Earth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Woo:

@m, there is an ongoing discussion in Chicago on social media about the Disco Demolition. I'm in Chicago now but wasn't here then. Some think it was racist, others think it was drunken stupid fun. Probably it was both and then some.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm McGroovey:

@m I would definitely say it's true that there was a racist+homophobic element to disco sucks. Rock was definitely long-haired white kids with guitars, trying not to seem gay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Jason from Houston:

  12:51pm Will:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Krys O.:

@m: Yes, it's true.
  12:52pm m:

@Woo: ooooh, controversy, I love it!
@McGroovey: yeah, totally makes sense in hindsight. had never thought of it that way before.
  12:52pm B:

There's a great recent episode of the You're Wrong About podcast looking at Disco Demolition and the homophobia/racism of disco sucks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Stevel:

McGroovey: As a former long-haired white kid, I agree. Mostly, a lack of familiarity/diversity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm unpopularfred:

Robin was great at singing about being miserable wasn't he.
  12:53pm m:

@B: thanks, i'll check it out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Tim In SF:

anyone else have Odessa by The Bee Gees in that fancy faux red velvet box ...3 disc set?
bought it on sale when Virgin had their going out of business sale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm unpopularfred:

FWIW, I think Woo and McGroovey are both correct
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Ike:

I can't remember which show, but someone on WFMU discussed the racism and homophobia of "disco sucks" a few years ago. It makes sense, esp. considering how much 70s rock is very performatively, fakely ultra-masculine (I call it "dong rock"), sounding to me like it was made by guys who were insecure about sexuality and masculinity (though I'm obvs biased since I can't stand that stuff).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Jason from Houston:

  12:57pm trevor:

Oh goodness, they are so much worse than I ever remembered them to be. But I guess de mortuis nil nisi bonum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Krys O.:

Jim Price used to drop-in bits from a promo record with Murray the K, I believe, talking about Odessa and the red velvet packaging. "You'll Never See My Face Again." said in disc jockey American-speak.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Michele with One "L":

I'm there in spirit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Tim In SF:

@Krys O. Funny
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm McGroovey:

"Matt doesn't beat his dog"

Or did she say "...probably..."? I can't remember already.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Woo:

At lot of Disco Demo was a very popular DJ at the time telling people what to do and they did it. It was a radio station gimmick with a very dark underbelly. And it was a waste of perfectly good records. Somebody bought all those records which assumes they liked those records so I don't know where those records came from. Did the white teenage blockheads steal them from their sisters?
Avatar 1:01pm Fox:

Drat, I missed the BeeGees!
  1:02pm m:

@Stevel, unpopularfred, and Ike: thanks for weighing in. yeah, my brain exploded when the racist/homophobic disco sucks commentary came up in the doc, couldn't believe it hadn't occurred to me before.
Avatar 1:02pm Listening Out There:

Pseu uses a hi-tek psetup...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm northguineahills:

Well, considering what disco was before it went mainstream, yeah, very homophobic and rascist. Once it went mainstream, there were a few banwaggoneer kids who didn't know better.

  1:07pm Gerry from Miami:

@Tim in SF. I asked that very same question on Clay Pigeon's Wake and Bake show this morning. The BeeGees are his "Artists of the Week." That faux red velvet album jacket was really cool. I purchased the album at a Safeway grocery store in southern California back in 1972 for $1.99. Also picked up the Turtles'"Battle of the Bands" in the same market for 99 cents.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Tim In SF:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Woo:

I just went to ALDI to buy cat food and milk. No vinyl. But I did not go down every aisle. I try to get out of there as fast as possible. A woman in the parking asked me for a dollar. I gave it to her.
  1:22pm Gerry from Miami:

Pseu, did you play that Lulu record because she was married to Maurice Gibb for four years? His drinking ended the marriage.
  1:29pm juli:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm McGroovey:

Aldi has (had?) records? Maybe I need to make a slippery slide down the hill to the North Bergen Aldi.
  1:32pm Gerry from Miami:

@Tim in SF. "Odessa" was later re-released as a single LP and then again as a deluxe 3-disc set. My fave off the album was a song about a harried southern California family man with 15 kids who goes away on a Sunday drive, only to return home and find he now has 35 kids! This was "Marly-Purt Drive." Jose Feliciano had a minor hit with it and Lulu, Maurice Gibb's ex-wife also recorded it.

  2:45pm winston legthigh:

luv the show pseu!
Avatar 2:45pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

For other ignoramus out there:
lulz Lulz.. is a corruption of L.O.L., which stands for laugh out loud. It's what you do things for. A corruption of lol. Lulz is a typographical subversion of the word "lol", meaning to Laugh Out Loud, thus emphasising the humour derived from the subject by way of making the original word sillier. Lulz is awesome.
