I'm not sure that there is an explanation for that or any of the odd monument found on a side street, Honeybear.

Hubig - Bass legend Dave 'Bitches Brew' Holland actually once stopped playing to tell me not to take a photo (it was a small venue in Manchester). Mmm, I didn't feel embarrassed at all, no siree.
Avatar 12:34pm
TDK60:

Hola Chresti.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:35pm
Handy Haversack:

Hubig, yeah, the very self-serious side of folk music. I once rescued Dougie MacLean when he was trapped at a table with the shushers after a show. Well, we bought each other drinks and enthused at each other for a while. It was my last night waiting tables at the brew pub before leaving grad school, and I'd had to miss his show to do it, so I was blown right the hell away when he walked in the door.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm
David Dichelle:

Yes, it is Scots Gaelic with a slight French accent.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
chresti:

That must be difficult to shush folks in an Irish bar.
Hola TDK60\\ //
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:37pm
Handy Haversack:

Scone was where the kings of Scotland were crowned, at the Stone of Scone, which of course was taken to London.
Avatar 12:38pm
Hubig Pie:

Chresti, the bar was divided . One room was for socializing and the other was for serious folk music appreciation
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:38pm
David (in London):

The Scone of Stone was, conversely, a lovely cream tea I once had in Staffordshire.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:39pm
Handy Haversack:

A history both bloody and delicious, David!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:42pm
David (in London):

A proper West Country cream tea is a thing of absolute gustatory beauty Handy. I'm buying when you're next here...
Avatar 12:44pm
TDK60:

David, I was witness to the cream tea unpleasantness between the Devonians and Cornish.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:45pm
Handy Haversack:

The Devonian period was a rough one for tea.

Sounds excellent, David!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
David (in London):

TDK. Oh ha ha! I've seen that, too, and it's not a pretty sight. I'm surprised you made it out alive actually. My friend Maf is from Dorset, and they wade into the fight at the slightest opportunity, too. My line is always 'I'd better sample another before I could possibly make any kind of informed judgement'...
Avatar 12:51pm
TDK60:

David, I was in a St. Just cafe; a waitress explained it as she served my Cornish cream tea. When finished she said: "Oh, but you're American, you can just cut it in half and make a sandwich."
Avatar 12:53pm
Carmichael:

@Hubig, ya can't have good craic if others are having their own craic.
Avatar 12:56pm
Carmichael:

I went to see Fairport in Davis once, and had dinner and drinks across the street beforehand. They were all there, lined up at the bar. I laughed at the matter, and they waved me over to join them. Hilarity ensued.
Avatar 12:56pm
Hubig Pie:

Had to enter that one into the search tab, Carmichael
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Handy Haversack:

That's awesome, Carmichael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
David Dichelle:

Carmichael: Do tell more!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
David (in London):

I'll bet a drink with Dave Pegg gets pretty riotous quite quickly.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 1:00pm
Handy Haversack:

The Dougie MacLean incident was also in a college town. Only so many places to go! And the brewpub where I worked had an Irish-ish trad session every week, so I guess it was a natural spot for the folk folx to bring him.
Avatar 1:01pm
Carmichael:

They were a jovial bunch, Simon Nicol, Chris French and Ric Sanders. Peggy wasn't there, so naturally they told lots of stories about him. They were surprised at how many times I have seen RT (about 20), and out came the stories about him. I told Nicol I own a copy of the Old Grey Whistle Test show with him playing with RT, and he replied, "So that's it, embarrass the band, eh?"

Avatar 1:12pm
TDK60:

Where is that, David?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 1:15pm
David (in London):

TDK. It's a quiet little area called Fortis Green, which is just next to Muswell Hill in the north. The Kinks were also from around there, so musically it has always punched well above its weight.
Avatar 1:18pm
TDK60:

Dug that Daniela Casa. / Ah David, I have the Kinks album, Muswell Hillbillies. And do you know why Fairport later chose Cropredy village for fests?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
doctorjazz:

Carmichael-as one who's seen RT as many times as you have, that story makes quite jealousi did get to interview RT with a friend who wrote for Guitar World at a festival in Spain, b something like Masters of Guitar. He was very nice to speak to (a much more formal situation than a meeting in a pub). I managed to put my foot in my mouth by asking him if he could play Rockin' in Rhythm solo (which he recorded on his Strict Tempo album, but with parts overdubbed, which I should have realized from listening to it). He was embarrassed, said it was overdubbed, and I realized I had erred. But he was gracious about it all.

TDK60:

And isn't Greek like that? Distinct within the Indo-E.?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm
David Dichelle:

Yes, Greek is as well. As is Armenian. Of course there may have been more distinct relatives in the past that disappeared with little trace.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm
David Dichelle:

NGH: Glad it worked out at least, even if it took a long time.

Handy Haversack:

ngh, will you get all the back-dated payments? Kate did once her claim was finally approved, which I think might have taken even longer.
Avatar 2:15pm
TDK60:

Yes NGH. Took me many months.

I know an Albanian street food vendor; he and his two Mexican co-cooks. I stop by for coffee (and to share insults about the leader).

It could also work as a T-shirt, come to think of it.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Handy Haversack:

I can see the T-shirt, definitely.

I also can picyture an allusion to the gatefold of ZZ Top's Tres Hombres but with foods from all the Random Road regions. But that might be a little excessive. Even by my cheese standards, which start pretty excessive.
