Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm chresti:

Hi Sam and calm, sincere, horse company!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm coelacanth∅:

hay Sam, un stablemates
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm ifny:

Neigghghhghh. Clop clop.
Avatar 10:06pm StringOFperils:

Hello to the night mare that isn't. Sam 'n' all....
Avatar 10:10pm TDK60:

Hello Sam. In the previous show we were reminded that deer are not really our friends. But in this show, I'm confident I can say that, horses are.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Ike:

Is the cat who is sitting on top of my stereo causing that static, or is that a problem with your microphone, Sam?
Avatar 10:12pm StringOFperils:

It's a short in the mic path somewhere....sounds like...crackly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm coelacanth∅:

some horses are mean mofos kill you in a heartbeat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm chresti:

I'm hearing it too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm ifny:

If your cat is sitting on my speaker too then it's definitely the cat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm coelacanth∅:

yes, static
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm ifny:

Staticat. Sam, try petting your cable.
Avatar 10:14pm TDK60:

Wow, H. Budd, another virus victim.
Avatar 10:15pm northguineahills:

ok, phone up and running again,,,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Sam Segal:

Chesti, Coel, ifny, String, TDK, NGH! All the stars are here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Sam Segal:

I think I fixed the static issue. Thanks for pointing it out. Let me know if it comes back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm Sam Segal:

I'm tempted to blame the static on one of the cats...they've been very poorly behaved recently.
Avatar 10:18pm StringOFperils:

Lends a second meaning to 'guilty as charged'.
Avatar 10:19pm northguineahills:

Creshevsky!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm Sam Segal:

Still haven't seen Bojack Horseman. I've heard great things about it though. Been meaning to check it out for years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm coelacanth∅:

(rest in peace, Noah Creshevsky)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm big electric cat∅:

i can't help my electromagnetic radiation
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm ifny:

Apparently we're supposed to brace for a big geomagnetic storm on the West Coast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm ifny:

I blame coelacats.
Avatar 10:27pm northguineahills:

I once had a Lemonheads tee for, "Hate your Friends". It had tw small kids w/ guns. I had profs telll me not to wear it at school. Well, my mom, when I visiting home, threw it out (she did that to a lot of shirts she disapproved of.

I recommend Bojack, but it is sometimes rather bleak, but it packs in so many obscure cultural refences that only woofmooers would get the most....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm ifny:

I also don't really know what to do to brace, so I'm just going to put this link here and feel prepared. naturecoastradio.org...
Avatar 10:28pm northguineahills:

thanks for the Cheshevsky tribute, I had no idea he passed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm coelacanth∅:

please extinguish all cigarettes
place your tray tables in their
upright, locked position
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm Ike:

As with many shows, Bojack Horseman takes a few episodes to get going, IMHO. Though maybe not as long as, say, Parks and Recreation, or The Good Place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm big electric coelacat∅:

your captain says put your head on your knees
your captain says put your head in your hands
your captain says put your hands on your head
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Sam Segal:

I was sad to hear about his passing. He somehow managed to make very cerebral, academic music fun and almost silly.
Avatar 10:31pm northguineahills:

@ifny: www.quickmeme.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm ifny:

I put all the cigarettes in locked position, but that's not so bad. At least my head is on its knees.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm big electric coelacat∅:

- as long as you're watching it happen you'll be okay
put your hands on your hips
Avatar 10:36pm northguineahills:

I agree w/ Ike: I slept on Bojack for years only watching a few episodes here and there. Then by the end of the first season, it really hooks you, and becomes awesome..

Coel went full Laurie Anderson. Only, Lou Reed's wife goes full Laurie Anderson (still happy I shared a few glasses of wine and convesation w/ her in 2006) *can you say star struck, if she sat next to you in a club that was playing experimental electonic music. I almost puked*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm ifny:

Thanks northguinea...? If anything I think the robots are boned when it comes to geomagnetic storms :)
Avatar 10:37pm northguineahills:

didn't Noah coin hyperrealistic? (I believe he had another earlier comp w/ that term)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm Sam Segal:

I think he did, NGH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm chresti:

Hmmm maybe that's why the reservation system crashed this morning, ifny, I didn't put my head on it's knees.
Avatar 10:40pm northguineahills:

@ifny: I'm only good as a meme generator these days. I'm a damn old fogey kid! (I'll get off every else's lawn but Sam's (he's younger then I))
Avatar 10:40pm StringOFperils:

The term 'hyperrealism' itself, (not pertaining to music) is from the art world, in the 1970s.
Avatar 10:41pm StringOFperils:

NY artist Chuck Close , for example
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm coelacanth∅:

don't let it get you down, chresti. just wave both feet in the air.
wave them around - like you just don't care.
Avatar 10:45pm northguineahills:

familiar w/ Close, but I believe Cresshevsky brought the term to music circles. He was in the art circles of Close, wojkiewitz, et al: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 10:49pm StringOFperils:

Huh. There ya go. Interesting, ngh. I don't think I was aware of Creshevsky before this week; I really like everything I've heard, here and on a couple of other shows within the last few days.
Avatar 10:50pm northguineahills:

huge harold budd fan. Have many many albums of his.....
Avatar 10:52pm northguineahills:

I know chris speed. and mad props to tim berne (any jazz musician of any stature who came to FL in the 90s, I owe them my music tastes). Sam Rivers lived in Orlando, and used to curate many shows in the state.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Sam Segal:

Seeing Tim Berne in high school play in Minneapolis with a group called Buffalo Collision (which also included Minnesota-based drummer Dave King) was a formative live music experience for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Sam Segal:

To be clear, I was the one in high school. Not Tim Berne.
Avatar 10:56pm StringOFperils:

Still hearing a little envelope of (what sounds like) static periodically, Sam, not just on the mic. FYI. Solar ejecta?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Sam Segal:

Thanks for the heads up. I'll try something that might fix it.
Avatar 11:00pm northguineahills:

outside of bossa nova jazz (stan getz/gilberto), I used to go the the Jacksonville jazz fest every year in HS (think NPR jazz). Once, we took the food from a truck and pretended we were caterers to get in for free. Another year, we climbed down the seawall on the bank of the St John's River to get around the fence. Me and my friends were desperate for any culture.
Avatar 11:01pm northguineahills:

I've seen Susan Alcorn live, twice, only solo. Dayum, she's good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Sam Segal:

I saw her play once with Okkyung Lee. Incredible show.
Avatar 11:08pm northguineahills:

I used to see Okkyung once a week for about 10 years. Love her music. She could be frosty at times, but always got me in for free at Tonic and the Stone. So, I have mad respect for her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm Sam Segal:

Drum solo from the great Tyshawn Sorey here.
Avatar 11:11pm northguineahills:

sounded like Tyshawn. Don't know Mario....
  11:18pm Dean:

Saw Tyshawn at a house in N. Berkeley with Roscoe Mitchell last year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm Sam Segal:

Hell of a pairing, hell of a location, Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm chresti:

Same here, Stringo, wasn't awares of Creshevsky until recently.
  11:27pm Jeff g. via app:

This is nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm Sam Segal:

Hello, app-bound Jeff G!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm Sam Segal:

I was supposed to see Tony Buck with his group the Necks, but COVID cancelled the show...hoping they come back to NYC soon.
  11:34pm Dean:

I was supposed to see Vandermark with Hamid Drake at the same house in April.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am ifny:

Incredibly beautiful and languorous set. I can't thank you enough Sam.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am Sam Segal:

Thank you for listening, ifny!
Avatar 12:03am StringOFperils:

Sleep beckons. What better way to go. Thanks Sam. Goodnight all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am ifny:

My ears are filled with gratitude.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am ifny:

It's the least I can do after being called a star *
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am coelacanth∅:

Excellent! Thanks Sam
goodnight everybody

good night moon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am WR:

Thank you Sam! Very great programming tonight.

Laters all, sorry not chatting much this today. Hectic busy day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am chresti:

Thanks Sam, enjoyed this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56am WR:

I think this link gives better perspective on the use of the term hyperrealism.
en.wikipedia.org...
Creshevsky is listed as a practitioner but not originator.

I too knew little to nothing about Creshevsky before this week. Pity.
