In the States there's an older term, "the pokey" as well as a couple of archaic, Spanish-derived terms like hoosegow (juzgado) and calaboose (calaboso). Tom Waits' "Walking Spanish" is a compendium of 20s and 30s US prison slang.

Brian, sadly I didn't make that Lexington show, Luckily I saw him with Firehose back in the 80s, then more recently with J Mascis & The Fog and twice with The Stooges. Can't complain about that really. He was never less than amazing.

@Joe. Sounds mighty good to me. Would make a good accompaniment for reasonably priced beer at any self-respecting honky-tonk.

I saw Mike Watt, George Hurley, Nels Cline, and Thurston Moore at the Alligator Lounge in Santa Monica, CA back in 1996? Two hours of improvised noisy guitar free-form awesomeness. Plus I took three hits of acid and the music was creating amazing visuals.
  11:28am

Dennis and Todd played “Denis” by Blondie, maybe for you!!

Nick Lowe's "Christmas at the Airport" would fit into this set nicely.
