Bob, thanks for keeping Danny Kirwan’s music alive. I’m a huge Peter Green fan, but Danny really gets overlooked by almost everybody (incl Mick Fleetwood)

Manfred Mann “This studio has a million instruments, and we’re gonna’ use them all!”

Good song, though. Greetings from Seattle!
Avatar 9:19am Bob Brainen:

Yeah dale, Manfred Mann were a band of many surprises!
The hits are all great but they don't tell the full story.
  9:19am Doc Rock:

Good morning Bob & all listeners.
Hey Jeff. I hope you guys are doing alright.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:20am WilliamfromDumont:

Avatar 9:20am Stillwell Coney Islander:

I Love The Marvelous Marvelettes. Strange I Know is one of their nicest songs. Brings back high school memories
  9:21am Joe Merklee:

Bob, I really enjoyed Rich Tupica's Chris Bell bio. Bell is such a mysterious figure, it was good to get a better idea of who he was.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:22am WilliamfromDumont:

This is The Action? Wow.
  9:24am egould310:

Morning, Bob. I’m working my way through “Mind Over Matter” the story of Detroit’s Fortune Records. Real slice of American history there. And recorded music history. Great book.
  9:24am Joe Merklee:

Chris Stamey's A Spy in the House of Loud was a pretty wonderful read with some fascinating songwriting insights.
  9:26am egould310:

@Joe Merklee I was looking at getting that Chris Bell bio. Thanks. And now I must get that Stamey book too. Songwriting tips? Yes, please.
Avatar 9:27am Bob Brainen:

Hey egould10, hey Doc Rock, good guess Wm. their own Mike Vickers played alto sax.
Hey Stillwell Coney Islander.
Joe I've been meaning to read that!
Hey Cooh John,
Yeah Wm. surprised me too, but a real nice surprise.
The Action were on their way to morphing into Mighty Baby who were Jazzier. Longer pieces, more improv.
Oh man, egould310, another one i HAVE to read!!
Yeah I liked the Stamey book.
Avatar 9:28am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Action doing Coltrane !
...& don't know when that Cymbals was recorded - but it sounds like Stereolab on nitrous & power drinks...
Good to be hear !
Avatar 9:31am Bob Brainen:

Hey Revolution Rabbit Nov63. Cymbals were around '98 to '03 so sometime then.
Avatar 9:33am Jack:

I finished reading "Guitar King: Michael Bloomfield’s Life in the Blues" and it was really good, except it had reviews that conflicted with my memories of a certain concert...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am dale:

I do want to read that Jack Bruce bio.

Avatar 9:43am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Always thot it odd that Trad Jazz was the big thing in England & you see no residual effects seemingly till Bruce & Baker... Manfreds though we're like the Jazz Zombies...
Avatar 9:45am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

..Skiffle in there - about which BillyBragg has gone deep...
Avatar 9:45am Bob Brainen:

A force of nature adamdoesit!
Trad lasted a l-o-n-g time for sure, Re.
And it fed into Skiffle. All related.
Avatar 9:46am Bob Brainen:

Ha, we both wrote "skiffle" at same time. Buy me a coke!

Avatar 9:52am Bob Brainen:

Lixiviated Life.
Dennis it was 1969. Purple vinyl in 80s/90s wow. Can you think of any in particular?
  9:52am jn34282:

@Lix great music
  9:52am Jeff:

Hey Dennis Diken, do you remember a Brian Wilson tribute your band was involved with at Folk City? I just had a flashback.
  9:56am Robbie White:

Some of those GOLDEN HOUR OF THE KINKS import LPs will show colored vinyl if you hold them up to the light.
Avatar 9:57am Bob Brainen:

Hey jn34282, thx!
I remember a tribute but at Fez under Time Cafe(?)
Dennis did "Dance Dance Dance.
  9:57am Dennis Diken:

Bob - most albums from the 90s or so were not totally opaque when held up to the light. Maybe not always purple. @Jeff - yes, 1985, pretty sure it was. I was the MC! guests included Marshal Crenshaw, Cub Lisa, Ben Vaughn Combo, etc. I have the flyer somewhere. Fun night!
Avatar 9:59am Lixiviated Life:

OK,
Got it.
I'm all caught up now.
Thanks @jn3482 @Bob Brainen

Hey Bob, when I first started listening to you and Frank O’Toole (back to back) 40 years ago, did you two do 3 hour shows each? I don’t want to sound greedy, but two hours is not enough. I want more!
Avatar 10:35am jake6573:

Would go as as far to say Good Times by the Monkees in 2016 was the Best album of the Year if you could believe it !
Avatar 10:39am spodiodi:

good morning, Bob Brainen and listeners
Avatar 10:40am Bob Brainen:

Hey Jeff, yeah most shows were 3 hours back then. I know 2 hours can be touch, but 2 hour shows allow a lot more poeple to geton the schedule! I also like the discipline of the 2 hour format, but yeah 3 is awesome to stretch out with.
