Good morning Jeff and crowd
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am fred:

@Dave: yesterday's show was stunning, a keeper for sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am Jeff Golick:

Hello hello, @duke!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am alanr:

I hope the music this morning is compatible with my yoga practice. LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am Jeff Golick:

Heya, @alanr! Hard to say, but Doug seems to make it through his practice ok.
  9:09am Dave Sewelson:

@fred glad you were there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Mx. Granny (e/em):

greetings, Jeff and WFMU palz!
Avatar 9:11am Listener Gregory:

Good morning, Outies.
I admit to being confused about Slovenia. It's not Slovakia, so where did it come from?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Jeff Golick:

Wassup, @Mx. Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am Jeff Golick:

@Listener Gregory! Maybe it's just Slovakia after a lot of wine.
Avatar 9:13am TDK60:

Good morning Jeff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Jeff Golick:

And to you, @TDK60!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am fred:

@Jeff: I think both are more beer countries
  9:21am Doug Schulkind:

Gamorning!
Avatar 9:22am Storkles:

i don't yoga, but if I did, this music would most likely do the job. David Grubbs channelling John Fahey a mite. Real nice!
Avatar 9:23am hyde:

Oh wow, this dude was in Squirrel Bait?
Avatar 9:23am Listener Gregory:

Apparently, Slovenia was formerly in Yugoslavia. However, I primarily remember it as part of the Holy Roman Empire. Those were the days!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Jeff Golick:

Yeah, that's crazy, ain't it, @hyde!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Jeff Golick:

@Doooouuuuuuugggggggaaaaaaah! Morning.
Avatar 9:25am Storkles:

All Hail, Listener Gregory! He ven-ied, he vidi-ied, he vici-ied!!
Avatar 9:25am hyde:

@JG sure is! I still have my Squirrel Bait LP.
Avatar 9:26am TDK60:

Yoga for me? That's a stretch..
Avatar 9:26am Storkles:

My wife's the vinyl, too hyde. Great rekkid.
Avatar 9:27am Storkles:

TDK60 - I think I just pulled somethin.' OOH!
Avatar 9:27am hyde:

@Stork yeah, I love that record
Avatar 9:28am Storkles:

Um...
my wife HAS the vinyl. She isn't the vinyl. I didn't marry vinyl, okay? Sigh - back to typing school for me.
Avatar 9:31am Storkles:

..i mean, I ALMOST married vinyl, but that one skipped at the alter. Get it? Skipped? At the alter?
Avatar 9:31am Listener Gregory:

A lot of new Tim Berne releases on Bandcamp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Jeff Golick:

Yeah, @LG; he had a little Black Friday sale, and so...
  9:36am DJpeterDE:

Good morning! I was about to say this sounded like Tim Berne had time traveled back to duet with himself but I see that it is indeed Bloodcount!
Avatar 9:37am Listener Gregory:

@Storkles, that is warped, man.

This is the Nels we know and loveā€”not playing love songs from the 1920s!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Uncle Michael:

I don't know a Nels I don't know and love.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Andrew Waterloo:

I was at a Nels show where Wilco fans also loved him until about 1 minute into the set, they walked out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Uncle Michael:

I find that amusing as hell, Andrew.
Avatar 9:53am TDK60:

Andrew: But I have a roots-Americana-folky pal who thinks Wilco too experimental. Hee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am WR:

Hello Jeff and all listeners OUT. Jeff, I see you've conveniently put links in the playlist so I can open them and listen to what I missed in the first hour while listo the 2nd hour on the stream. Only way I can make a dent in my listening deficit.
Avatar 9:54am Listener Gregory:

Well, I just discovered what I believe to be a small sewer backup in my basement, so my comments might be limited to a few choice curses for the rest of the show.
  9:55am DJpeterDE:

@LG I hope it is indeed small!
Avatar 9:56am hyde:

@LG yikes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Jeff Golick:

Hey there, @Revolution Rabbit Nov63! And @Andrew Waterloo! And @WR!
Avatar 9:59am Listener Gregory:

Thanks. I'm going to try a little watchful waiting and see what happens. If it's not continuing to back up, I'll call someone on Monday.
Sorry to add sewage to the discussion!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am Jeff Golick:

Coming right up: music to unclog drains to.
Avatar 10:03am StringOFperils:

Plumbing-snake charming music, as it were.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Jeff Golick:

Let's face it: out minds are already in the sewer (cf., Bloodcount's "Talk Dirty to Me.")

Hey there, @StringOFperils!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Jeff Golick:

By the way: I might be talking less than usual today, and for the next few weeks, as my "studio" has again become the college kid's bedroom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am doctorjazz:

Hi all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Jeff Golick:

Hi, @doctorjazz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Jeff Golick:

The first words of copy for this Eris album are: "Insectoid ASMR glitches"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am chresti:

Morning Jeff and OUTies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am chresti:

Coffee...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Jeff Golick:

Hi, @chresti! New cat?
Avatar 10:22am DJpeterDE:

Still processing "Insectoid ASMR glitches"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am alanr:

wow. yoga completed. perfect background sounds (OMG: irony....my youtube yoga video is by a Dutch woman named Cat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Jeff Golick:

Same, @DJpeterDE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Andrew Waterloo:

I just ordered too bags of coffee and a skull shaped coffee mug. Still not as good as my northern Ontario log textured mug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Jeff Golick:

Skull mug sounds cool. You can pretend you're drinking out of the heads of those you vanquished.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Jeff Golick:

I mean, if you're into that kind of thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am doctorjazz:

Caught up with the comments. I've been to the Solid Sounds Festival Wilco's Berkshire festival, and Nels Cline usually gets a more intimate space to play in, but he does get Wilco fans to listen there... He's THEIR weirdo...(he's a good friend of a friend, and a really nice, soft spoken guy, nothing like the guitar sound he makes)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am doctorjazz:

Mmm, I'd like some coffee, but it means getting out of bed.
Avatar 10:28am Listener Gregory:

Nels and Yuko Honda had a set in the Bang on a Can streamed concert recently and tore it up! Then when they interviewed him afterwards, he kept apologizing that he had apparently forgotten about the script and just went crazy on the guitar. The interviewers kept saying, "But wow, that was awesome!" which it was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am Andrew Waterloo:

The skull isn't that big, and I don't want to feel like I've vanquished a colony of hobbits
Avatar 10:29am DJpeterDE:

I'm glad Nels and Yuko are together but it was amazing when she was with Sean Lennon: John and Yoko, Sean and Yuka.
Avatar 10:33am Sem:

Hello, Jeff, and Destination: OUT travelling companions. Listening while watching the sun coruscates on the high tide estuary. A balmy 5C outside.
Avatar 10:35am Listener Gregory:

When I could go to the Downtown Music Gallery in person, I would check out their Clean Feed box and pick out a couple of discs by European musicians I'd never heard of. They were impressively good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Jeff Golick:

Wassup, @Sem!
Avatar 10:37am DJpeterDE:

This was performed at the 2018 October Revolution (Philadelphia's Ars Nova Workshop). I forget if they said the performance preceded the recording or vice versa. But this sounds more assured so I'm guessing recording came later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Jeff Golick:

As much as I'd like to dismiss Clean Feed as a label that over produces, the hit rate is indeed rather high.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Jeff Golick:

Right you are, @DJpeter: "The concert received a second standing ovation and the 17 musicians went to studio the next day."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Jeff Golick:

@DJpeterDE: were you at the performance?
Avatar 10:40am DJpeterDE:

Clean Feed on Bandcamp means no more weird packaging changes every few years. The "portfolio" packaging c. 2004 was particularly bizarre and unworkable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am doctorjazz:

Quote a band on Soundparh, must have been quite a show (I've always wanted to go to an October Revolution show, but never made it. I have gotten to a few Are Nova produced shows, though)
Avatar 10:44am DJpeterDE:

I was indeed in attendance. It was held in the Christ Church Neighborhood House (not the best acoustics), next door to Christ Church itself where (a) George Washington worshiped and (b) John Zorn performed on organ later that same day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am chresti:

Jeff, that's Frisky, son of Tasha, brother of Tiger, our babysitters when we were growing up.
Avatar 10:46am Listener Gregory:

Washington and Zorn were a great duo in their day.
Avatar 10:47am Listener Gregory:

What Clean Feed taught me is that there are almost as many incredible musicians in Europe as there are in Brooklyn... I just don't know them.
Avatar 10:47am DJpeterDE:

The 2019 October Revolution was a series of a dozen concerts spread across October. The 2017 & 2018 festivals were all in Old City over a single weekend: you'd hear Kid Millions at 11am, grab coffee, and then go hear Diego Rataplan around the block, then Tiger Trio in the church... It was communal, spending the weekend with the same group of people.
Avatar 10:50am DJpeterDE:

Or hearing a composition for 24 French Horns strolling around the Race Street Pier on a warm October morning... that was lovely.
Avatar 10:52am DJpeterDE:

Jeff you know what I'm going to ask about Clean Feed via Bandcamp: does the download come with PDF liner notes?
Avatar 10:52am Listener Gregory:

Marty Ehrlich deserves credit for a number of projects like this, including those for Julius Hemphill and Jimmy Giuffre (which I heard but don't believe has been recorded).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
Washington & Zorn is an accredited four-year college with a picturesque campus nestled handsomely in the leafy, rolling hills between your ears.
Avatar 10:55am Listener Gregory:

@Doug, the leaves between my ears are definitely piling up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Doug Schulkind:

Wow, man. That really blows.
Avatar 11:01am DJpeterDE:

@LG I think Bobby Zankel deserves the credit here! It's his band that inspired Abrams, and he brought Ehrlich in. Zankel is a Philadelphia treasure, should be better known outside Philly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am doctorjazz:

If the world ever returns to some semblance of normal, I have to get to an October Revolution one of these years, after reading your description, DJpeterDE!
Avatar 11:03am DJpeterDE:

I will never forget this band assembled by Zankel:
paintedbride.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Jeff Golick:

@DJpeter -- I'm not sure if the CF downloads come with PDF notes. I happened to get Soundpath via radio/PR channels.
Avatar 11:04am DJpeterDE:

@doc I will see you there!
Avatar 11:05am DJpeterDE:

@Jeff. Thanks. I will take the plunge next Bandcamp Friday and find out for myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am doctorjazz:

Listening through main stereo now (got my coffee, did my yoga back stretches), through headphones, this is quite a good sounding recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am doctorjazz:

It's a date, DJpeterDE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am doctorjazz:

I haven't gotten downloaded album's with pdf notes, one reason I don't like them (but to be fair, I buy very few of them, get physical media if available)
Avatar 11:15am DJpeterDE:

@Doc some Bandcamp labels give you PDFs with the album artwork etc., but others don't. And the Bandcamp site doesn't make that clear. (Only complaint!)
Avatar 11:18am DJpeterDE:

@Doc I prefer physical media to download only, but the Bandcamp model where I can download lossless if I want, at any future date -- that works for me. I like the physical media of course, but this way i don't have to store it, and can still access lossless version if necessary.
Avatar 11:19am Listener Gregory:

@DJpeter, I don't know Zankel at all. I will try to inform myself. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Doug Schulkind:

Bobby Zankel made some excellent contributions to Steve Rowland's brilliant Coltrane radio documentary, Tell Me How Long Trane's Been Gone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am doctorjazz:

I'm a Bandcamp fan, especially for vinyl albums, since they also include that lossless digital download, allowing me to play the album places other than the turntable.
Avatar 11:22am DJpeterDE:

Two Zankel recommendations:

Avatar 11:26am Storkles:

Glad to hip you, Jeff - and happy birthday to your teenager-no-more! Speaking of birthdays - a set devoted to guitarist Ed Bickert at The Stork Club too-day! wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Jeff Golick:

Thanks for the recs, @DJpeterDE!
Avatar 11:27am DJpeterDE:

I don't know what's more disturbing, that album cover, or the word "Collective" in German.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Jeff Golick:

Neither is great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Uncle Michael:

I really love this Kollectiv track. Must inwestigate.
Avatar 11:29am Storkles:

Yer basic in-the-pocket-70's Krautrock.
  11:29am Dean:

It's on the big ol' Brain box: https://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Brain-Box-Cerebral-Sounds-Of-Brain-Records-1972-1979/release/10115358
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, big ol' @Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Jeff Golick:

The end of this show is going to be fairly chaotic, no way around it.
Avatar 11:33am DJpeterDE:

Discogs has 1 Brain Box for sale!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am doctorjazz:

This is a great track (Kollectiv), have to pull that box out again)
Avatar 11:35am TDK60:

Chaotic end, no way around, only through? Well, it /is/ 2020.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Jeff Golick:

This Kollektiv is also on a Soul Jazz comp called "Deutsche Elektronische Music," which is where I came upon it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am doctorjazz:

Interesting how much variation the guitarist can get having what's essentially 1 chord music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Doug Schulkind:

I picture a New Yorker-style cartoon, with a trench-coated sidewalk figure holding a "The End Is Chaotic" sign.
Avatar 11:37am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The brotherhood of Hendrix enthusiasts. Wonderful ensemble.
Avatar 11:38am DJpeterDE:

Now! That's what I call Deutsche Elektronische Musik!
Avatar 11:39am DJpeterDE:

@Doug! What color is the sky in your world! I want to go to there.
Avatar 11:42am DJpeterDE:

(You unfailingly make great connections, is what I'm trying to say.)
  11:44am Dean:

What is it with Krautrock and nonsense rhymes? "Rambo Zambo," "Tago Mago" (Can), "Tango Fango" (Guru Guru), "Cabo Wabo" (Van Halen)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Doug Schulkind:

@DJpeterDE
Uh, I don't get outside much.
Avatar 11:47am DJpeterDE:

LOL
Avatar 11:48am DJpeterDE:

Jeff this is really cool! "The album artwork was inspired by The Beatles "Abbey Road." It acted as a critique of the social conditions in South Africa at that time without overtly mentioning Apartheid and running the risk of being banned."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am doctorjazz:

Just got this Emakhaya, great stuff!
  11:50am Dean:

"Heshoo Beshoo," enough with the Krautrock already!

Great cover. In addition to the nod to the Beatles, the fact that it includes a person in a wheelchair...fifty years ago!...is something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am doctorjazz:

23 copies left...
11:52am imaad in colombo, sri lanka:

Great musics today, Jeff. Have a fine Sunday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Doug Schulkind:
