I called it 'coffee-coloured classical music of the future'. What would music be like if 'classic' had not been defined as what happened in Central Europe two hundred years ago? What if the world knew Javanese music and Pygmy music and Aborigine music? What would 'classical music' sound like then?" / From a 2020 interview with Hassell: "The basic metaphor (of the Fourth World) is that of the north and south of a person is a projection of the north and south of the globe...A mind formatted by language and located in the head, compared with the area of wildness and sensuality below the waist where dance and music and procreation reigns."    1:36:41 (MP3 | Pop‑up)

Of particular appeal were inadvertent examples of the post-industrial, post-apocalyptic landscapes so commonly imagined in Cold War-era media. Places and debris that fostered views of modern pop mummified, and contemporary provisions made artifact. Zombie pepsis & fossil aerosols. The project began harvesting audio recordings in 1983. The 1st studio experimentation began in 1986, soon followed by compositions that employed using literal “found sounds” such as fragments of open reel 1/4” tape and 35mm film recovered from burnt out warehouses and abandoned drive-in theaters. The earliest work involved physical tape loops and analog signal processes, which were gradually replaced by digital delay treatments and multi-track manipulation.  *   1:43:04 (MP3 | Pop‑up)

Avatar 8:30am Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Stanley I feel you. If it weren't for my children, I would totally skip Christmas and new year's.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33am WR:

Hello Carol & Crew. Another 2020 day made better by WFMU and all of you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33am David (in London):

Yeah, must confess I'm also struggling to find any kind of enthusiasm for the festive season this year.
  8:33am WFMU listener John:

@Sylvia I would rather skip thanksgiving too and listen to WFMU all day and wnjoy the fellowship on here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34am Stanley:

Sylvia. Right on! I've got added dilemma of whether I get presents for two new children, born to my two neices. If I do then I'm in for the next twenty years!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34am Buddha of Suburbia:

Here goes nothing! Buddha runs on the dance floor only to interpretive dance to the music. Everyone is bewildered by her weird moves, but she carries on despite...

  8:35am WFMU listener John:

Avatar 8:36am Sylvia (France-NYC):

@WFMU @8:33 Listener John just keep the food part

@Pabs put it on my tab
  8:38am WFMU listener John:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38am Stanley:

sean and Sylvia - you are both entirely correct, though I'm crap at choosing presents. I'll call my neices.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38am Pablexa™:

@JB OK - $4,783 - I Hope to see some of this someday
  8:39am WFMU listener John:

@Sylvia then I would have to talk to people and I don’t really want to
Avatar 8:40am John from NP:

@Buddha Did you bake enough cookies for all of us??
Avatar 8:40am Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Pabs to others or YOU wouldn't get anything?

@Stanley wise move, call or text them, they probably have a list. You need a ton of stuff when you have a newborn

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41am Nulsh:

Carol! We've gone from scary to bouncy! Lovin' it!
I'm gonna grab another coffee before I start to crash!
Hang the curfew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42am Deborah:

@WFMU listener John I do not usually do major holidays. I have skipped Thanksgiving most of the time, although I am invited. I do not celebrate December holidays and the mythology that accompanies them. I do get obligingly together with people and bring whatever gifts I can. However, that is all over now, as the Rolling Stones might say.
  8:42am WFMU listener John:

@Sylvia that’s what I am going to do
Avatar 8:42am TDK60:

This is the year to send a fruit cake. Triply wrapped.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42am Pablexa™:

Swag For Life Member 8:52am 12539:

Thanks, Carol & Ruth! Be well everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52am Deborah:

@WFMU listener John: You can hibernate over the holidays if that is what moves you. Your mom and family would understand. It is such a tough year for many of us. I have no obligations; my sister and family are in Florida and we are not close. Best friends and lovers sadly are no longer on the planet so I choose whom I spend time with. This year it will be a solo trip, for sure. I hope that you choose what is best for you.
Avatar 8:53am Sylvia (France-NYC):

thank you for yet another great Sunday morning, Carol <3
take care of yourselves, friends

Thanks everyone for the good company.
Be well.
Avatar 8:54am TDK60:

Thanks Carol and Ruth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54am Deborah:

@John for NP. I am very partial to Paul Cavalconte who does excellent shows on WFUV and WNYC. Jeff Spurgeon is good too. Too bad WQXR doesn't have a comments board! That would never fly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54am Nulsh:

Thanks Carol!
Thanks Ruth!

  8:59am upstate sean:

Peace all
Avatar 8:59am John from NP:

It's still a very funny show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59am Deborah:

@John from NP Yes, he does. I think he runs that stream. Crazy that WQXR or WFUV doesn't make him full time. FUV could use a major kick in the ass. It is terrible, except for Cavalconte, Platt, and McGee. I am sorry; am a radio geek.
