Avatar 2:04pm Joe B:

hey medson!
Avatar 2:04pm Nutley Sam:

@medson haha
  2:06pm medson:

See you already passed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Matt Clarke:

Is this the closest anyone got to replicating Dave's early guitar sound?
Avatar 2:11pm Joe B:

good point Matt, for the dozens of times that song was covered on record, probably is
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Matt Clarke:

Another impressive effort from the Resonars
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Gaylord Fields:

Roots of the Resonars!
Avatar 2:12pm Nutley Sam:

Don't run and hide from the Beatles!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm myron feld:

I was betting you'd write "The Resonars of Manchester, England!" Oh well -- who do I pay?
Avatar 2:13pm Joe B:

Not Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Matt Clarke:

Oh, to be a Hollie of somewhere. I'll content myself with the Hollies records.
Avatar 2:13pm Joe B:

hi myron, thanks for being here!
Avatar 2:14pm Nutley Sam:

My swiss bank account is secret. Well, it was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Matt Clarke:

@Nutley Sam: Full of hot chocolate last time I checked your statement
Avatar 2:16pm Nutley Sam:

@Matt now you're talking!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Matt Clarke:

Alright! Ready for more Shakey Street
  2:18pm medson:

Love the guitar on this one
Avatar 2:18pm Joe B:

this same band also has a good cover of rock and roll woman
  2:19pm Dolemite:

Hiya Joe! All Buffalo Springfield covers, all the time!
Avatar 2:19pm Joe B:

Avatar 2:20pm Joe B:

hey Scott! thanks for being here!
  2:22pm medson:

Anyone ever that video of poor Lou Rawls having a coughing fit while on stage singing ?
Avatar 2:23pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

I knew the Watchband version of this before I heard Buffalo Springfield's.
Avatar 2:23pm Joe B:

@medson - have not. would love to hear outtakes of his Bud commercials though
Avatar 2:24pm Joe B:

@Todd o phonic - I am the opposite. I did not know they covered it until this reissue n the early 1990s. Not Dave Aguilar on this one
Avatar 2:25pm Joe B:

now, only Springfield covers by former guests of the todd-o-phonic todd show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Matt Clarke:

Very nice version
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Daisy:

Hay hay hay!
Avatar 2:26pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Randy Bachman interview here:
www.wfmu.org...
  2:26pm medson:

I’d like to see those outtakes as well. Homework for later.
Avatar 2:27pm Nutley Sam:

That phrase with the ascending 5, 6, major 7 over first a major chord then a minor chord is used a lot but it's great. "It Doesn't Matter Any More" and "Sure Gonna Miss Her" to name two.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Gaylord Fields:

Too bad it's not 100% CanCon!
Avatar 2:27pm Joe B:

hey Daisy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Matt Clarke:

Woah never heard this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Matt Clarke:

Colin should do instead of the 40 minute Hold Your Head UP
  2:28pm Sissophonic Cheryl:

I never heard this either! Love it!!
  2:29pm Sissophonic Cheryl:

Matt Clarke, I agree, haha
Avatar 2:30pm Joe B:

first heard this via Bob Brainen of course!
Avatar 2:30pm Nutley Sam:

@Matt first Zombies show I saw in 2002 was a LOT of Argent and like 5 Zombies songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Gaylord Fields:

@Matt: Shame that will never happen as long as Colin is the junior partner of the Zombies after 55+ years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Matt Clarke:

@Joey B: Is this White/Argent produced?
Avatar 2:30pm Joe B:

Neil macarthur version of god gave rock and roll to you coming up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Matt Clarke:

God Help Us was the failed follow up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Gaylord Fields:

Yeah, Rod Argent certainly plays too much of the band that shares his name. Maybe he needs to change it to Rod Zombie for us to hear more of the good stuff.
Avatar 2:32pm Nutley Sam:

God gave tootsie roll to me
  2:32pm bigplanetnoise:

Hey hey, JB and Shakin’ pals!!
Avatar 2:32pm Joe B:

@Matt - I think Mike Hurst, who produced the remake of she's not there. not 100% sure though
Avatar 2:33pm Nutley Sam:

Wow, this Doris Troy is new to me. It's great.
Avatar 2:33pm Joe B:

hey BPN!
Avatar 2:33pm Joe B:

@Sam - from her s/t LP on Apple. whole album is amazing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Matt Clarke:

Great set
  2:33pm Sissophonic Cheryl:

@Joey B is killin it today!
Avatar 2:33pm Joe B:

thanks Cheryl!
Avatar 2:34pm Joe B:

i was wrong - that was not a single
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

Fantastic show today Joe!
  2:35pm bigplanetnoise:

Thx, JB!
Avatar 2:35pm Joe B:

thanks Jeff!
Avatar 2:35pm Joe B:

no thank you BPN!
Avatar 2:37pm JR HTX:

Hey Joe, Hi all! never this version... It's shakin!!!
Avatar 2:37pm Joe B:

hey JR! agreed!
Avatar 2:38pm JR HTX:

never heard this version....
Avatar 2:38pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

You don't suck Joe, you just aren't as good as Lou Rawls.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Gaylord Fields:

Judging from Colin Blunstone, Charles Ives, and Wallace Stevens, insurance execs certainly were a different kind of fella back in the day.
Avatar 2:41pm Joe B:

they should have recorded take out some insurance for their respective companies' ad campaigns
Avatar 2:42pm Richard from Venezuela:

Good afternoon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Gaylord Fields:

@Joe B: Haha!

@Todd-o-phonic Todd: I've yet to hear what Lou Rawls could do with "Daddy Wants a Cold Beer," so the jury's still out for me.
Avatar 2:42pm Joe B:

hey Richard!
Avatar 2:43pm Joe B:

good point Gaylord!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Gaylord Fields:

That Budweiser jingle is not enough. Be better, Lou.
  2:46pm Dolemite:

Idiotic garage rock should be officially recognized as the 6th Food Group.
Avatar 2:47pm Joe B:

I actually had a falling out with a friend in 1978 or whatever year it was who insisted that lou rawls was the singer of tonight, let it be lowenbrau.
Avatar 2:49pm Nutley Sam:

I could use a socket wrench set like this.
Avatar 2:49pm Joe B:

tell them mad daddy sent you
Avatar 2:50pm Nutley Sam:

@Joe I once had a friend who insisted Smokey Robinson sang "I'll Be Doggone"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Candy-O'67:

Really diggin' this set, Joe.

Hey, JR!
Avatar 2:51pm Joe B:

@Sam - sounds like someone who hired me when i briefly had a DJing business for parties etc who requested, you know, motown stuff like james brown ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Gaylord Fields:

@Nutley Sam: Sheesh! I'd like to think that broke up the friendship.
Avatar 2:52pm Joe B:

thanks candy-o!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Gaylord Fields:

@Joe B: The only consolation there is that I've learned that you can typically overcharge the musically ignorant for your services.
Avatar 2:53pm Dominick:

Hi Joe and all youse folks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Matt Clarke:

Great tune
Avatar 2:53pm Joe B:

hey Dominick!
Avatar 2:54pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Nutley Sam: Does seem like somewhat of a silly thing to end a friendship over however.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

Hi Gaylord I hope you're on the mend :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Gaylord Fields:

"I can play all the James Brown Motown you'd like, but those records are super-rare and expensive, so it will cost you extra for me to find them."
Avatar 2:55pm Joe B:

ha! i should have done that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Gaylord Fields:

@Jeff: Fit as a fiddle, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Alvy Singer:

Hi Joe. The setlist today is really shakin". The peoples champ reigns supreme.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Jeff formerly from Rahway:

@Joe B FWIW, I won a "Lowenbrau" mirror on the Seaside Heights Boardwalk in the 1980s.
Avatar 2:55pm Nutley Sam:

@Joe B: did they at least pay you well?
Avatar 2:56pm Joe B:

hey Alvy! thanks
Avatar 2:56pm Joe B:

that belltowers set is 2017 i think, right Matt?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Matt Clarke:

@Gaylord: Yes I will play that version of Sgt Pepper with Bernard Purdie on it. A few dollars more please!
Avatar 2:57pm Joe B:

@Sam - decent enough but that is a fast way to get burned out on music and people!
Avatar 2:58pm Joe B:

PHILLY STYLE
Avatar 2:58pm Nutley Sam:

@Gaylord @Todd it did not end the friendship! We made a bet, then I pulled the car over somewhere in CT and we called CBS-FM from a pay phone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Matt Clarke:

@Joe B: It was November 2017. Thanks for playing the group again.
wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Gaylord Fields:

@Matt: I think we have a business plan here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm myron feld:

You Can't Sit Down really is one of the greatest records ever give.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Matt Clarke:

@Gaylord: I have the original handwritten lyrics to Purple Haze where Jimi had written kiss this guy. How much should we charge?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Gaylord Fields:

@Nutley Sam: Yeah, that seems worthy of interrupting Bill Brown's "Brown Bag" for.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Gaylord Fields:

@Matt: Haha! I like Evil Matt Clarke.
Avatar 3:06pm Nutley Sam:

@Gaylord Haha! The brown bag for the day was "songs that are obviously by one person but some idiot thinks it's a different person"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm spodiodi:

hi Joe B. and Shakers! happy friday. sounds nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm spodiodi:

my 6th grade teacher tried to teach us the bristol stomp
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Gaylord Fields:

@Sam: I'm snort-laughing hard at the almost plausible nature of that one. "And there you have our Brown Bag for November 20. We began with the Ronettes — not Barbra Streisand — doing 'Be My Baby…'"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Gaylord Fields:

I tell ya, Joe, between Johnny Daye and Linda Lyndell, Stax certainly chose its blue-eyed soul singers well.
Avatar 3:20pm Hackensack Slim:

Hey Joe, Shakin Street Looking and Sounding Good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Andrew_in_WI:

Sock it in my general direction Joe B.
Avatar 3:25pm Joe B:

hey Hackensack slim! hey andrew! thanks spodiodi!
Avatar 3:25pm Joe B:

Gaylord i almost had linda in this show also!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Gaylord Fields:

Joe, all Linda's sides are so good!
  3:37pm Mark R:

Trying to place what record these backing vocals sound like
Avatar 3:39pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

According to Howard Kaylan's girlfriend, I am the "One Potato Two Potato Guy".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Mike Sin:

Fantastic show today, Joe! Kept one ear on work and one ear on your show! Especially enjoyed Lou Rawls covering Buffalo Springfield!
  3:51pm medson:

Great show Joe. Catch you all next time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm spodiodi:

thanks, Joe B.!
Avatar 3:55pm Joe B:

thanks everyone!
  3:56pm Cacophone Jeff:

As always, great show, Joe! Listening while I work away. This makes my Friday go much faster and with a smile on my facE!
