With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers
Big bands and squawkers,
the Stork Club has retained its qualities of decaying elegance and dwindling significance since the late 1950s.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm fred:

Hello Stork and patrons
  12:07pm Dean:

Been reading up on aspects of the Renaissance. I've never been a fan of Leonardo; something about his work has always struck me as off. Much prefer Leonardo's contemporary Raphael and their senior Leon Battista Alberti. Anyway, Edgar Wind wrote critically of Leonardo that he "explored the great secrets of nature, releasing and harnessing its concealed forces by 'suitable and peculiar inducements'. The episodic method of his experimentation, so baffling to modern scientists because of its unconsecutive, conjectural style, is a pursuit of elective affinities that are of magical power--inconspicuous causes that produce amazing effects." He was, in other words, a nutcase.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Stork and all
Avatar 12:10pm Listener Gregory:

I enjoy Leonardo.
Avatar 12:10pm Stork:

LGregory, fred and Dean have made the ..(wait for it...) Scean! See what I did there with a spelling pun? Do I know what works for radio, or what?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm coelacanth∅:

Dean, all that is probably why i like him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm WR:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm fred:

How come L.H.O.O.Q. is missing from this picture?
  12:11pm Dean:

You're just lucky my parents didn't name me Dene.
  12:11pm Dean:

Swinging in to say hey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm chresti:

coel, same here.
  12:13pm Dean:

Trust me, spodiodi, it's hard to read about celebrities of the Renaissance and not have the whole effect spoiled by TMNT.
Avatar 12:14pm Listener Gregory:

@fred, It's on the back, next to the R. Mutt signature.
Avatar 12:14pm Stork:

BadBob, WR and Jeff g. have entered! No distancing here. Everybody huddle in close. C'mon, get it here!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm coelacanth∅:

hey spdi
  12:15pm Dean:

I will say I stood in front of La Gioconda at the Louvre a long time ago, when it wasn't so hard to have space. Pretty sure she winked at me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm spodiodi:

hi again, Jeff! hi BadBob
Avatar 12:15pm Stork:

I meant get IN here...sheesh my typing continues its steep decline.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm spodiodi:

i feel ya, Stork... as if my typing wasn't already bad enough, my keyboard of choice bit the dust recently, by way of a borken Z key *shakes tiny fist*

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm WR:

spodiodi, I miss you use of the meatwad photo. Just thought I would share that thought.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm spodiodi:

Avatar 12:18pm Listener Gregory:

spodiodi formerly known as zpodiodi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm WR:

Not a request, a footnote.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm spodiodi:

thanks, WR -- i take avatar feedback seriously... noted well
  12:19pm Dean:

My favorite digital abbreviation is WWW. World Wide Web = three syllables. Double-you double-you double-ewe = nine syllables. Some abbreviation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm spodiodi:

haha Gregpry
Avatar 12:19pm Listener Gregory:

Heading out before the rain-possibly-turning-into-snow starts, but it all sounds good so far, Stork.
My avatar can only be seen by the pure of heart. Just saying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm spodiodi:

srsly, Deano
Avatar 12:20pm Listener Gregory:

Without a z key, I would be in a purple hae. Bummer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm WR:

Dean, truly a LOL point, abbreviation for non-verbal communication.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm chresti:

I enjoy spodi's changing avatars.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm doctorjazz:

Hey, Storkers! Having a fine lunch if leftover cholent (European/Jewish beef-bean stew). Yummmm...(I'm the only one who likes it in my house, more for me)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm coelacanth∅:

for the record, fmu another wfmu listener used a meatwad in motion avatar for years, maybe still does -i'm not remembering who.
...but i like spodi's ever-changing images (even though i've been disgusted by at least 2 of them!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm spodiodi:

haha again Gregory
Avatar 12:23pm Stork:

Dean, that factoid just blew my miniscule mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm spodiodi:

the doctor is IN! aloha . i never met a bean i didn't like

which two, coel?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm WR:

Cholent! I've tried cooking it twice with limited success.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm spodiodi:

i''m not worried, coel. steal and steal alike, i say
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm coelacanth∅:

Dean some abbreviations should be only for written/typed usage, in my opinion.

"app" is one. (app is not a word). "gwb" is another.(same number of syllables as "george washington bridge")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm coelacanth∅:

spod one was recently...johnny rotten?
i forget the other...maybe something cheesy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm fred:

@Dean: I sometimes get email at work from the scientific side, with subject line in bureaucratese: words are abbreviated to the first three letters, with a dot. If a word has fewer than three, it often gets a trailing dot anyway. I usually have no idea what it means, but since the body is usually a string of acronyms with a link I don't have access to, no big deal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm spodiodi:

the Johnny Rotten one was pretty cheesy too, coel :D but i like him, and i like that you and chresti like the changing images
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm doctorjazz:

WR, my wife got the recipe from my sister, who I believe got it from my mom (Polish style, with potatoes, as opposed to Hungarian style, without). NY Times recipe mixed in as well, and kishka (stuffed derma) thrown into crockpot this time for good measure... Can forward recipe if you want.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm spodiodi:

i like how this track is shaping up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm doctorjazz:

Hey, Spodi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm doctorjazz:

Kris Davis, huh? Saw her once, have a recent album of hers, would never have guessed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm fred:

@doctorjazz: Isn't there a song called "who stole the kishka"? I remember that from a WFMU premium (Stashu?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm doctorjazz:

Fred...
youtu.be...
Avatar 12:35pm Stork:

Some prepared stuff going on in this Kris Davis piece, DrJ.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm adamdoesit:

Hi and happy Sunday, Stork, stoic Vulcans, velvet Venusians, ancient intergalactic fish, and beings from elsewhere in the autophysiopsychical system and beyond.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm spodiodi:

aloha, adamdoesit! \\//
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm coelacanth∅:

okay spodi 1 was johnny rotten then. i don't hate him, i just don't think he deserves to be famous.
but in that picture he was employing his "intimidation stare", which is far more laughable than intimidating! it reminds me of when i was little and my brother would stick his chin out, in an attempt to intimidate me. he added a similar glare to the underbite. finally i asked "what's wrong with your chin?" and he knuckle-punched my arm.
i thought there was another but maybe not.
  12:42pm Dean:

Been out shopping. Rather, BOS. Have to head out again. HTHOA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm coelacanth∅:

in any case by far not the most annoying or offensive avatar picture
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm spodiodi:

2 for flinching, coelacanth! *glares, eyes wide open* one of my college GFs told me that before we were dating, that she would refer to me as "the guy who gives me dirty looks" -- i was just looking :) so maybe i have a bit of that look Rotten was going for by default myself >8^\ -- but i totally hear you. i make an effort not to look too grumpy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm coelacanth∅:

hahaha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm spodiodi:

i told my partner, since we moved out of the city recently, that i need to lose my "city face" -- after a couple of neighbors had waved hello :D so now i'm on my toes about it more than ever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm spodiodi:

i looked pissed-off in my very first baby picture
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm one of spodi's girlfriends∅:

"i'm gonna get that guy who gives me dirty looks!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm spodiodi:

who can blame me? wombs are warm and cozy, if not a little claustrophobic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm spodiodi:

i just wanna be loved, Stork
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm spodiodi:

and you can do no wrong. it's your club, and we are here for anything ya got for us. danke
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm adamdoesit:

Back in the day, cholent would be cooked in the (womb-like) warmth of the baker's oven as it cooled during the shabbes. Some say that its heft prefigured the discovery of uranium…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm fred:

@Stork: You can go overtime since there's no show on the stream before Irene. Maybe you should go for a twelve hour show someday before that empty space in the schedule gets broken up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm coelacanth∅:

my thing, in that regard, is that i seem to never expect friendliness -because it happens all the time (in the real world, where i can see people's mouths) that people smile at me and i'm taken off-guard and don't smile back before they've already looked away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm spodiodi:

cholent green is uranium! i'ts URANIUM! :~(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm adamdoesit:

It's urani-YUM.
Avatar 12:53pm Stork:

So adamsoesit: the goyische answer to cholent would be the fruitcake? Also a dense substance that could be wielded as a blunt-force weapon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm spodiodi:

coel, i have a bad habit of staring and waving at people i think i know, but who are complete strangers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm spodiodi:

lol adam
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm coelacanth∅:

haha
-and Haha! to that picture,spodi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm doctorjazz:

Adam, : )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm spodiodi:

is it so wrong, coel, really?
  12:55pm WFMU listener john:

@Spodiodi everything is relative
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm spodiodi:

relativist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm spodiodi:

we are all one
Avatar 12:56pm Stork:

Double cello action! A rarity.
  12:56pm WFMU listener john:

@Spod that works for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm coelacanth∅:

we wouldn't have wrong without right. and we wouldn't have right without left. and what's left? nothing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm spodiodi:

doubleplus good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm spodiodi:

*mindblown* coel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm adamdoesit:

Stork, yes! Imo, cholent is a subtler weapon than fruitcake, in that it doesn't exert its blunt force until after it's eaten. They're both siege weapons, but cholent is more trojan horse than trebuchet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm doctorjazz:

2 cellos, bass, drums, cool sound!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm spodiodi:

lol adam, you are cracking me up
  12:57pm WFMU listener john:

We sure get into weighty subjects on the accu boards
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm fred:

An aunt (a German teacher) would bring some German fruitcake every year around Xmas. It certainly qualified as able to deliver blunt force trauma
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm spodiodi:

i'm STILL laughing out loud, adam (and had to tell m'lady about it all)
Avatar 12:58pm Stork:

Aint nothin weightier than fruitcake. Unless it's cholent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm spodiodi:

can cholent be re-gifted like fruitcake?
  1:00pm WFMU listener john:

What is cholent?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm spodiodi:

guessing not, unless you send the entire crock pot (weightier than fruitcake in that case?)
