Avatar 11:49am Sean in Bristol UK:

Good evening Irene, hello one and all, my favourite day of the week, three hours of nirvana ahead
Avatar 12:00pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hello Irene, Sean!
Love your title for today's playlist, Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm listener james from westwood:

Afternoon, Irene and all!
Avatar 12:01pm Stork:

Is that photo an Irene original? So lovely! Hi Irene!!
Avatar 12:01pm Brian in UK:

Hello Irene.

Sean is that the UK or American Nirvana?
Avatar 12:03pm Stork:

I think Jeff G played this on D-O this past Sunday. Great stuff!!
Avatar 12:03pm Stork:

Two Brits on board already!! Happy Mondays!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Good morning-ish, Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm YETI BOB:

@Irene: I was just going through the "solo acoustic guitar" section of my record collection and was wondering if you'd heard "The Hut Variations" by Matthew Mullane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Irene Trudel:

Greetings, Sean, Sylvia, james, Stork, Brian and Summer and Michael and Sylvia! Stork, that is one of my photos, taken yesterday in Wappingers Falls, NY while on an mvernight trip to the area. Not many actual waterfalls in that area that we stumbled across but it was a pretty scene outside some old factory ruins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Irene Trudel:

Hey YETI BOB! Another great suggestion but I may save it till next week.
Avatar 12:05pm Brian in UK:

What-ho, Stork from a wet UK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm YETI BOB:

@Irene: Sure - I was just wondering if you knew it. Of course you do, you know what's hip :)
Avatar 12:09pm βrian:

Shuffling in. Good afternoon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Irene Trudel:

Stork, John Schaefer just interviewed Gwenifer Raymond and posted three videos of her playing. So amazing! www.newsounds.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Doug Schulkind:

Happy Irene Day, everyone!
Avatar 12:10pm Stork:

Brian in the UK: the ground is wet by the sky is dry for the moment here in the Lowlands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Irene Trudel:

Hi βrian and Doug! Happy day indeed.
  12:11pm ?:

Bonsoir Sylvia, good evening Brian and Stork, miserable conditions outside, how is the weather with you? Beautiful photo Irene, are you excited about the future of our Metsies? Brian, UK Nirvana possibly?
Avatar 12:12pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Sorry, got logged out, just commented
Avatar 12:15pm Brian in UK:

For some reason I was reminded of Max Ochs, his picking and stories of Cider apples.
Avatar 12:16pm Stork:

Anthony puts the Pirog in prog - or perhaps just the other way?
  12:18pm Dean:

...and in pirogi.
Avatar 12:18pm uuee:

Good day Irene and friends. Wappingers Falls, great photo! This year's 30 Rock xmas tree came from that area, Oneonta, NY
  12:18pm Dean:

De Grassi, a topic from last week!
Avatar 12:19pm Stork:

The New Sounds website is nice - big play button right there so you can start listening right away. Will peruse further, after the Irene-tacular.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Irene Trudel:

Welcome Dean and uuee! Actually Oneonta is quite a ways northwest of Wappingers Fall, but a beautiful area nonetheless.
Avatar 12:21pm Tarambana:

Greetings from Madrid. Promising show and great photo!
Avatar 12:22pm Stork:

Hola, Tarambana.
Avatar 12:23pm βrian:

Day 245 of the lockdown. New case rate is through the roof in WI.
Avatar 12:24pm Stork:

No pirogi emoji, Dean :(
Avatar 12:27pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Sean it rained all weekend here (France), but it's too warm for the season, thanks climate crisis
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Irene Trudel:

Welcome Tarambana!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Irene and Irene-niks!
  12:32pm Dean:

Avatar 12:34pm Stork:

You're a sorcerer, Dean.
Avatar 12:35pm Stork:

Julian Lage has been a steady source of joy during lockdown.
  12:36pm Dean:

More like a saucier, Stork.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Webhamster Henry:

The chilly, rainy weekend here in the Mid Hudson has stripped a lot of leaves off.
Avatar 12:37pm Stork:

Henry! Sit down and have a perogi!!
  12:42pm Dean:

...avec beurre noisette.
Avatar 12:45pm Stork:

Shred that thumb piano!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Nulsh:

Hello folks!
Avatar 12:45pm Stork:

Howdy, Nulsh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Webhamster Henry:

@Stork I wish! The local Eastern European tavern closed here though (before Covid!) Nevertheless, I am making roasted vegetables and some cornbread.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Nulsh:

Hey Stork!
  12:52pm Dean:

The title "Geography of Nowhere" somehow reminded me of Guy Davenport's exquisite collection of essays, The Geography of the Imagination. Would love to reread. There is in fact a book, The Geography of Nowhere, about "the rise and decline of America's man-made landscape" (subtitle).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Irene Trudel:

Hey Henry and Nulsh! βrian, that's a sobering thought about the WI Covid rate. I'm in a bit of a dilemma over Thanksgiving. We had plans to visit friends in upstate NY, who live in a tiny, somewhat closed community but now wonder if that's a safe idea. What are you folks planning for the holidays?
Avatar 12:53pm βrian:

We're staying put, for sure. Undecided between lasagna or turkey.
  12:56pm Dean:

Great palates think alike, @βrian. I'm toying with doing both. Staying home, despite an invitation to friends' "Dutch door" celebration at their place.

I would advise staying home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Nulsh:

I see I missed Gwenifer Raymond! Darn it!
I was put onto a performance she did to showcase the new album for those that be interested...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Irene Trudel:

Nulsh, check out the link I posted to Stork up higher in the comments about Gwenifer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Nulsh:

Irene! I probably should have had a skim through the comments before posting! Heh heh!
Cheers for the link!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Irene Trudel:

No worries, Nulsh! I'm happy to nudge links. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Michael 98145:

Weren't we just here? Well, hello again. 😎
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Irene Trudel:

Hello Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Thank you! <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Irene Trudel:

My pleasure, Summer and Michael and Sylvia!
Avatar 1:27pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

hey, yay!! Thank you, Irene <3
Avatar 1:35pm Constant Follower:

Hey Irene, everyone. Loving the Bipolar Explorer! And thanks Michael - I noticed :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Constant Follower!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Thank you @constant follower!
Avatar 1:41pm Stork:

re: holiday plans - -alternating between dreading the trip to the US and dreading not going - gotta visit my mom, but should I ? So many ways for life to suck just now. One blessing is that all these vaccines are looking good just days after a certain political operative in Washington got fired.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Irene Trudel:

Wow, that's a tough position to be in Stork! Officials here in the US are telling people to stay home. Tough call, especially when dealing with an elderly parent.
  1:45pm Bill D:

Good afternoon Irene! Monday is such a great radio day between you , Joe M and Joe B!
Avatar 1:45pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

hi @Constant Follower!

@Stork it's so hard not to be able to travel to be with loved ones :(
Avatar 1:45pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

I like this Elvis Costello
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks so much, Bill D! I know what a tough choice to choose between us. I rally can't listen to Joe M anymore because I'm planning my show. But the archives help.
Avatar 1:52pm Stork:

Wow, great set irene! Never heard that Aksak Maboul before - nor the Elvis. And Bipolar Explorer is a brilliant band name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Irene Trudel:

They're new ones from Aksak Maboul and Elvis.
Avatar 1:55pm Stork:

It really is bitter, Sylvia. We are somewhat lucky that we have gadgetry to bring us closer - better than not having it, but I'm getting pretty tired of all this screen time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Irene Trudel:

I hear you, Stork! We just saw Peter's cousin yesterday for brunch, after seeing some live music the night before. We take as many precautions as we can, but I still feel uneasy.
Avatar 2:00pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

yes, it is quite bitter, Stork. Michael and I haven't seen each other since March, I'm in France, he's in NY.
  2:01pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Epic set, Irene, thank you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Irene Trudel:

I try not to despair but I may cancel plans with one of my brothers in NJ because their positivity rate has gone way up there. Hopefully these new vaccines will improve things by next summer, but that's still a very long way off.
Avatar 2:12pm Stork:

Bob Dorough. That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!
Avatar 2:13pm Stork:

birdie-like precision.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Irene Trudel:

Whoops, I was wrong about that other Zappa documentary but close. it's actually called "Eat That Question."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Irene Trudel:

Oh, that's such a shame Sylvia!
Avatar 2:16pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

yes, it is, since I'm a French citizen I can't stay too long in the US at once, and I have my children in France, too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Webhamster Henry:

There's a Zappa related documentary on Bruce Bickford, stop motion animator for Baby Snakes and other Zappa moving pictures.
"Monster Road" www.imdb.com...
Avatar 2:19pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

and, well, international borders have been closed since almost the beginning of lockdown 1 :/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Irene Trudel:

I hope that changes, Sylvia.
  2:20pm Dean:

Does that publicly supported radio station near Fairfield, CT, still do the annual Zappa show? For a few years, it served up my quota of Zappa for the year when I'd stay with a buddy who lives there.
Avatar 2:20pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

me too, thank you, Irene. We have so many things we want to do.
  2:21pm Dean:

Memorial Day tribute, I believe.
Avatar 2:24pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

this set just makes me want to take a bath while sipping wine
Avatar 2:25pm βrian:

Ah, but which wine?
Avatar 2:26pm Stork:

That's an excellent französisch way to experience Irene's show, Sylvia.
Avatar 2:27pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

red? @βrian
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Irene Trudel:

Hey Dean, the station is WPKN and it looks like they did one last June as a fundraiser: wpkn.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Irene Trudel:

Ooh, a glass of Pinot Noir for me!
Avatar 2:29pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

exactly that, Irene!
Avatar 2:34pm βrian:

I think I'd want a glass or two of Bourgueil, if only because so fun to say.
Avatar 2:37pm βrian:

"it's so fun"
Avatar 2:39pm Brian in UK:

I imagine that all these wonderful small independent record labels are run by people who used to be in the business with larger labels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Irene Trudel:

Yesss, Autumn makes most days a good day for wine!
Avatar 2:40pm Brian in UK:

Irene, robust reds?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm Irene Trudel:

Brian, I think you're right. Many get tired of the big label BS and want to take things into their own hands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Irene Trudel:

Mmnnnn, robust reds....
Avatar 2:44pm βrian:

In fact, as soon as Irene dismisses class, I'm off to the Bourgueil store.
Avatar 2:49pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

you're gonna need something to eat with, @βrian
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Irene Trudel:

Mmnnn, lunch is coming for me after the show. Wine later.
Avatar 2:51pm βrian:

Hmm, I'm thinking of comté popovers with sage.
Avatar 2:52pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

oh wow, that sounds perfect, I love popovers, and cheese
Avatar 2:52pm Stork:

Drinking a fine supermarket Italian Veneto red wine here. It set me back all of 1.93 euros and I still have most of the enamel left on my teeth.
Avatar 2:55pm βrian:

Château Pinard is an old favorite of mine. It's what we'd call a high-velocity wine. (It's not intended to spend much time on the palate.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Michael 98145:

Low cost doesn't always imply low quality ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks for all the comments and wine suggestions! Catch you all next Monday at noon. Stay tuned for Ken's Last Ever Radio Extravaganza.
Avatar 2:57pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Up next on the drummer stream: Super-obscure 2001 show from the vaults:
"Elsewhere": Noise, layers, building terror and hypnotic immersion from
within a claustrophobia-inducing cement bunker at Momenta
Art, during the Williamsburg Elsewhere Festival, to gallery
audience and live broadcast on pirate radio station

Say hello hither! wfmu.org...
Avatar 2:57pm Stork:

@Michael 98145 - that's especially true here in Germany as you may well know.
Avatar 2:57pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

lovely song to end this lovely show, thank you Irene!
take care all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Michael 98145:

Speaking of high quality, thank you again, Irene 🎇
  2:58pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

I just love reading the comments, what an awesome group of the most wonderful human beings on this planet. Wow, one heck of a show, Irene, thank you
Avatar 2:58pm Brian in UK:

Great show, Irene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Webhamster Henry:

Thanks Irene!
