Heigh ho, heigh ho!
Avatar 6:02am Heidee:

Aaaah. Bliss. Hi Jeffrey.
Avatar 6:02am Ruth Booth:

Happy Saturday!
Avatar 6:02am Really Lisa:

Hello Jeffrey and all.
  6:02am ZeeBee:

Greetings from my pre Dawn New Mexico living room ad the water boils, and I leave for the bakery. Happy to catch a slice
Avatar 6:03am Heidee:

I want to move to this like the falling autumn leaves. Hi 12539, Ruth, ZeeBee.
Hi Lisa!
Swag For Life Member 6:04am jeremyo:

Hello all, for once I'm here live and from the very start. Wondering if today might be the day when Jeffrey plays 100% artists I've never heard of - it's been oh-so-close before. The thrill of adventure never stops! Though I'm equally happy to hear beloved favourites. Anyway, this will make work so much more pleasant.

Avatar 6:04am TDK60:

Good morning Jeffrey and Ruth in booth.
  6:05am Toothgrinder Tom:

Morning, everybody. Time to rise and shine!
Avatar 6:06am Really Lisa:

Hi Heidee :)
Avatar 6:07am Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hello Ruth, Jeffrey, 12539, Really Lisa, ZeeBee, Heidee, jeremyo, TDK60, Toothgrinder Tom!
Avatar 6:08am TDK60:

Bonjour Sylvia.
Avatar 6:08am Really Lisa:

Ça va, Sylvia :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09am Fuzzy:

Sounds like the sun is rising -- good morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10am Jeffrey Davison:

Quite a crowd already! Good morning 12539, Heidee, Ruth Booth (xx), ZeeBee, jeremyo (thanks!), TDK60, Toothgrinder Tom, Really Lisa, Sylvia (France-NYC), and Fuzzy rounding out the team...Bonjour to all!
Avatar 6:20am Sylvia (France-NYC):

this is a beautiful beginning of a set
  6:21am Toothgrinder Tom:

Or as I’m known in France, ‘dents-ecrase Thomas’.
Avatar 6:21am Fredericks:

Add me to the list, Jeffrey! Morning, Shrinkers.
Avatar 6:22am Sem:

Good morning, Jeffrey, hello Ruth (itb), and greets to the Shrunken Planet faithful from the shores of the mighy calm shores of the Bay of Fundy.
Avatar 6:24am Heidee:

This is mind-cleansing. Hi all. Hi Sylvia!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25am Jeffrey Davison:

Sylvia, thank you.
Toothgrinder Tom: my dentist says I'm a toothgrinder too, and I have the abrasions to prove it.
Good morning Fredericks! Added!
Good morning Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26am Jeffrey Davison:

And thank you Heidee. This is the cleanest show on air!
Avatar 6:26am Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Toothgrinder a new kind of superheroes, grind the teeth of villains?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28am Jeffrey Davison:

Sylvia, no. It's the masochistic superhero, who grinds himself to nothing over the course of time. I'm only 3'6" tall now.
Avatar 6:29am duke:

Good morning Jeffrey and fellow shrinkers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning duke!
Avatar 6:32am Heidee:

Today it is particularly worth listening with headphones. I am sinking in...
Avatar 6:33am Sylvia (France-NYC):

haha Jeffrey!

A few years ago, there was a tv show in France, "Hero Corp", about destitute superheroes living in a small French village, they all had what we would call lame superpowers. It was quite well done, from being funny to the underlying depth of it all
Avatar 6:33am TDK60:

Happy Ray Charles' birthday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34am Jeffrey Davison:

Heidee, don't sink too far. Stay in sight!
Sylvia, that show sounds like fun...
TDK60: Yes, all hail Ray Charles!
Avatar 6:38am TDK60:

Sorry, my mistake too quickly reading This Day in Music. Ray born in Sep. Today is when his "Georgia On My Mind" went No. 1 in 1960.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39am Jeffrey Davison:

TDK60...roger that, though Georgia is okay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44am Kevin-san:

Good morning, shrunken ones, I am listing to port this morning
Avatar 6:46am Really Lisa:

Meeting a colleague in five mins. She asked me to help her get into running properly, ie form, gait, breathing. I’m slow as molasses, and often correcting my own form, but good at imparting the info. Call me the masked runner(?)
Looking forward to listening to the rest of the show from the archives later!
Be safe and well, all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46am Jeffrey Davison:

Kevin-san, good morning! Steady as she goes, matey!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Malcolm!
Avatar 6:48am TDK60:

Avatar 6:49am Sylvia (France-NYC):

bye Lisa!
Avatar 6:49am TDK60:

See ya, "molasses" Really Lisa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51am Jeffrey Davison:

Avatar 6:52am Heidee:

Ah, the fiddle. Gives me an instant pang in the heart. In a nice way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54am Jeffrey Davison:

Heidee, I'm with you on that score!
  6:54am Toothgrinder Tom:

Great show this morning (as always).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00am Jeffrey Davison:

Thanks Tom!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00am Niall:

Hello, from co. Kerry, Ireland! Faha's about.... 30 minutes, 40 minutes away.
Avatar 7:00am TDK60:

I got to hear some of that Brooklyn Raga fest on radio (WKCR) a few years back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01am Niall:

Been a loverly set, enjoying it on a cold, rainy and windy day here.
  7:02am Toothgrinder Tom:

I need to move to Ireland ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02am Niall:

It's got its ups and downs, @Toothgrinder Tom.
  7:03am Toothgrinder Tom:

Wait, cold, rainy and windy, you say?
Avatar 7:03am Heidee:

Is that the shruti box played? I have one and love it. My husband is a Scottish musician and we do one or two pieces together where I accompany him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03am YETI BOB:

good morning ... i shouldn't be awake at this hour but here i am ... thanks for the tunes jd!
  7:04am Toothgrinder Tom:

@Niall can you expand on that?
Avatar 7:04am Heidee:

(no shruti now of course, I realize that)
Avatar 7:05am TDK60:

Heidee, what's a shruti? / Tom, careful. I have a US pal who went to teach in Eire for a few years; never came back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06am Niall:

@TDK60 www.shrutibox.co.uk

My favorite "oscillator." =)
Avatar 7:08am Heidee:

@TDK60, it is a drone instrument, often used in Indian music. Sometimes heard in Scottish folk, maybe to resemble the pipe drones:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08am Niall:

@Toothgrinder Tom - leaving politics, etc aside, it's just grim here in winter, especially in the rural west. Come December, January, you're looking at a couple hours of usable light a day, while the rest of it's dark, wind-whipped and the rain just lashes at you relentlessly. It's a forced reversion to scared, forbidding times. ;)
Avatar 7:10am TDK60:

Thanks Heidee! I suppose I've called it a harmonium in the past. Maybe it's a bit different.
Avatar 7:11am TDK60:

..and thanks Niall of Kerry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11am YETI BOB:

@Heidee: I just found this: "In the early nineties, traditional Irish singer Nóirín Ní Riain brought the shruti box to Ireland, giving it a minor place in traditional Irish music. More recently Scottish folk artist Karine Polwart has championed the instrument, using it on some of her songs". Wasn't aware of the shruti in Celtic music, always learning something here.

@TDK: A shruti is different from a harmonium, it has no keyboard.
  7:12am Toothgrinder Tom:

@Niall yeah, that’s kinda what I thought. Plus I love skiing.
  7:12am Kpx:

the certainly of one's place of every day familiar surroundings doing, going, about one's esoteric motions automatically, the restless mind urns for a missing elusive mystic unattainable something to replace a lost wandering hunger. KPX.

morning Jeffrey and planeteers, enjoying the soothing tones this cool quiet morning. it's been a long while since I felt inspired to make another amateur attempt to compose a poem again. hope it rates at least a c average.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12am Niall:

@Toothgrinder Tom but sometimes, it's really something: www.instagram.com...
Avatar 7:13am TDK60:

Ah thanks Yeti.
Avatar 7:13am Heidee:

@YB, yes that's right. I love how Celtic folk embraces the fusion of sounds.
  7:15am Crei6hton:

Morning WFMU
Avatar 7:17am Heidee:

... and would you listen to that lovely sensitive guitar accompaniment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Niall, YETI BOB and Kpx (thanks!)
YETI BOB: the Nóirín Ní Riain are worth seeking out.
And good morning Crei6ton!
Avatar 7:18am Strandlund:

Beautiful show this morning, Jeffrey.
Swag For Life Member 7:19am Ted in Montclair:

Good morning Jeffrey and all. Come Saturday morning...oh yeah it is Saturday morning. Remember that song from The Sterile Cuckoo? I’m not asking you to play it, Jeffrey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19am dale:

morning. was the bon debarras from france or canada? it reminded me of harmonium a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20am YETI BOB:

Looking up Nóirín Ní Riain and now I'm reading about Theosony ('Sonic Theology' or 'The study of God through Sound'). What a lovely rabbit-hole to fall down this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Strandlund, and thanks!
Good morning Ted in Montclair!
Good morning dale! (the answer is Quebec)
Avatar 7:21am Heidee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22am Niall:

Nice one, @Heidee
Avatar 7:24am Heidee:

@Niall, I miss Ireland! Was an Au pair a lifetime ago in Celbridge, County Kildare...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25am dale:

great quebecois from harmonium on their first acoustic album. then they got more into prog territory. if you've listened to them:

  7:26am WFMU listener john:

Good morning fellow planet people
@Heidee morning
@Jeffery morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26am YETI BOB:

@dale: "Rock progressif Québecois dans les années 70" - how did I miss this my whole life?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26am Jeffrey Davison:

dale, I used to have that record...(sigh)...I keep upsizing while I'm downsizing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning WFMU listener john!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27am YETI BOB:

J'aime le rock progressif !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29am dale:

yeti bob - listen to l'heptad. it's a masterpiece.

jeffrey - cano is more cajun but they had some lovely stuff too.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30am Jeffrey Davison:

YETI BOB, a lot of the prog from Quebec from 70s and 80s didn't really hit my sweet spot, but there's a good chance that if I gave a listen today I'd have another reaction. And so it goes...
dale, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33am Deborah:

Good Morning!

Trees are beautiful around parts of Montclair. Good walking music but I'm not there yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33am dale:

and maneige was great too. a bit jazzy for me. les porches is a great album.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34am Deborah:

@Ted in Montclair Like the song an loved the film as a college freshman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34am YETI BOB:

@JD: I think a lot of this music just doesn't make it to the USA. I didn't even know "prog from Quebec" was a category. On a slightly different topic (they were from Toronto not Quebec, and I'm not sure if it was exactly "prog") - the RVNG reissue of the complete recordings of the group "Syrinx" was a real eye-opener for me.
Avatar 7:35am Heidee:

nice segue from the jig to the reel...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35am YETI BOB:

@dale: thanks for the cool suggestions. can't listen now of course but i've got them open in tabs for later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35am dale:

i should feel lucky i was a teen during that era. if i was a teenager when grunge came out i'd be brain dead.

yeti bob - peruse the artists at progarchives.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36am Jeffrey Davison:

YETI BOB, another LP that I'd like to have back. Really glad it was reissued, though. You're right about those older LPs not making it to the states; I'd come across them here and there at used record stores.
Avatar 7:36am Heidee:

... could be a hornpipe... :-)
  7:37am Andrew in Toronto:

Good morning Jeffrey and all other Planeteers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39am YETI BOB:

@JD: It's a beautiful reissue, 3LPs and a book. RVNG does really good work.
Swag For Life Member 7:40am Ted in Montclair:

@Niall—I’m reading a wonderful new novel, The Searcher, by Tana French, set in rural West Ireland. Evocative and suspenseful.
@Deborah: I haven’t seen Sterile Cuckoo since it came out. I want to see it again, bu it seems hard to find. See you around Montclair.
  7:40am Matt Warwick:

Morning Jeff!
  7:40am Kpx:

bungled it, excuse my poor grammatical mistakes. you'd think I'd learn by now to do more carefully proofreading, it would save me a lot of embarrassment. but maybe it's better that I try and fail, than not to try at all, and hope people just look past it .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42am YETI BOB:

Kpx: I thought it was a nice effort. You had "urn", instead of "yearn". And maybe you could find a stronger word than "something". But keep writing poems!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Andrew!
Good morning Matt Warwick! (First song after 8am is for you...
Heidee...I think it was a reel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43am Deborah:

@Ted in Montclair Just read that The Sterile Cuckoo is part of Prime Video. Have to rent it though. Amazon is just a greedy monolith. Yup, will be walking Montclair environs later.
  7:43am WFMU listener john:

@Heidee lots of nice tunage today
  7:44am WFMU listener john:

@Jeffrey Davison Good Morning! Loving the music as is Clyde The Kitty who is mellowing out as he joyfully recovers from a week in the area animal hospital.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50am Jeffrey Davison:

Deborah, happy to apply balm to Clyde's ills...
  7:55am Matt Warwick:

OooooooooOooOooo a song for ME!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00am YETI BOB:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00am Jeffrey Davison:

Don't know why I said "gentleman in the White House". No gentleman!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01am YETI BOB:

The Marcel Duchamp gallery in the Philly museum is worth a trip in itself.
Avatar 8:02am TDK60:

Been to Philly many times, but not to the art museum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02am Deborah:

He is leaving the White House, if they have to drag him out! Hoping for more positive times, although they will take a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03am Jeffrey Davison:

YETI BOB, indeed. And Duchamp has long been a hero of mine. There were a bunch of "oh, that's HERE?!" moments.
Deborah, maybe a tug of war, with orange baby as the rope...
  8:04am WFMU listener john:

@Jeffery more like a parasite
Swag For Life Member 8:04am 12539:

(Garbage! Scoo bop a badup!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05am YETI BOB:

@Deborah: It's commonly said that after a breakup, it takes half the length of the relationship to get over it. So according to that, the national detox will take 2 years.
Avatar 8:08am Heidee:

@Deborah, thank you, my world is fine after rebuffing an aggressive parent with sophisticated diplomacy (which I don't know how I was able to apply so successfully... I am more of the impulsive type, heh... :-)
Aw, have to go... sorry for nattering so much today, I just couldn't help it, today's show was such an inspiration, yet again.
Jeffrey, you have elevated my soul. Thank you for your beautiful music.
Take care everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09am Jeffrey Davison:

Heidee, glad to hear you're doing okay, and take care. Thanks for being here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09am YETI BOB:

Tschuss Heidi! Schönes Wochenende!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10am Jeffrey Davison:

WFMU listener john...indeed.
YETI BOB, I wish that the effects might go away in two years, but that seems very optimistic, alas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11am dale:

was flipping around the tube yesterday and fox5 was the only one carrying his 'warp speed' virus vaccine announcement. then in mid sentence from some general they cut it off and went back to tmz or whatever they show.
  8:11am Cooh John:

Good morning Jeffrey and planeteers. It took me a while to read the packed comments board since I slept on. So sorry I missed the Celtic segment. My grandmother was from Leitrim and my daughter and family immigrated there 3 months ago. It may be 2022 until I can visit. Something to look forward to.
  8:13am Dennis Diken:

good morning Jeffrey & all! Nice way to wake up on a Saturday! Lotta cool stuff in Philly, including the Masonic Temple/Museum!
  8:14am Kpx:

@Yeti Bob: thanks for the encouragement and suggestion, somehow I knew urn was wrong, but that's the way it came up in the strip when I typed it, so I just went with it in an anxiousness to get it done and posted. plus I know the band The yearning. so how could I have made that mistake. I kick myself on a daily basis with 20/20 being hindsight. I often feel out of my element most times when I get on the chat because I am. I won't lie I always feel intimidated but yet at the same time intrigued. I like being here when I feel the courage to take the risk to score a hit or miss. most times it's a Miss. but like baseball when it's a hit it feels rewarding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15am Jeffrey Davison:

Cooh John, good morning. Something to look forward to, for sure.
dale: To hell with Fox. I'm looking forward to Trump News.
Dennis Diken, good morning! Thanks for the tip. I have yet to visit the Natural History museum there, also, and I hear that's great. The Barnes is a wonder, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17am dale:

kpx - this ain't mensa. don't sweat it. and it seems like the couple of bullies that used to show up have been sent to the cornfield.
  8:18am Buddha of Suburbia:

Hi Jeffrey! Hi gang!
  8:19am Kpx:

@Heidee: a belated hello to you.@WL John: thanks buddy. @Jeffrey D: you're very welcome.
  8:21am Kevino:

Got my ear buds in, looking out the window watching the leaves fall, thinking how beautifuly Nature reminds us that all things must pass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21am YETI BOB:

@kpx: I've always thought of WFMU as sort of a club for misfits. I have the feeling that there are many different types of people here, all different ages, from many different places and backgrounds. And I think the level of acceptance is pretty high (unless you are a total jerk!)
  8:22am Toothgrinder Tom:

Can you believe it’s still soccer season? My son has a rec game in 30 minutes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22am Jeffrey Davison:

Buddha of Suburbia, good morning!
Good morning Kevino!
Toothgrinder Tom: good brisk day for soccer...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23am Deborah:

@Heidee Me too on the impulsivity which seems to have receded a bit over the last few years when it comes to letting my academic opinion be known. Not so much in other areas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25am dale:

@Dale: like what Young Will Robinson does in that twilight zone episode. @morning Boody Wooty.

This "Families" track is sweet, I don't know them (and I'm in Chicago - really missed going to the beach on Lake Michigan this summer!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44am Jeffrey Davison:

YETI BOB, they were new to me too. Nice stuff.

@YetiBob and Jeffrey- Agreeing here with the sweetness of that "Families" tune too! Feeling that sense of place and memory in it. Thanks moreover for all these vivid ringing voices this morning Jeffrey! Happy to be up early on a frosty Saturday here south of Chicago and tuning in live with my 9 day old daughter now.
