  1:09am rich:

good morning coel and threemoons (sorry missed you earlier)
Avatar 1:12am Honeybear:

what's nice about Pfirsichhain (if anyone cares) is - aside from meaning "peach grove" - the nice, flowing sequence of characteristically German sounds 'pf', 'r' and '-ch'. And the unusual cluster 'chh'.
Avatar 1:13am Honeybear:

so for rich to even attempt that word - definitely gets him kudos
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14am coelacanth∅:

say it louder please i cannot hear it
Avatar 1:14am Honeybear:

I'm sure it would fit well in Rammstein song
  1:14am rich:

it must’ve been my pronunciation of the ‘chh’ that led to stork’s moment of glee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15am mariano:

Hey coela, Threemoons.

I think my favorite German word (of the few I know) is lecker ("yummy"). Sounds exactly like what it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am coelacanth∅:

greetings mariano
- yeah lecker sounds like it could mean yummy as much as yummy does
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am coelacanth∅:

sitzpinkler i like because it's practically an onomatopoeia
  1:20am rich:

you hear lecker and you think lechter and yummy immediately comes to mind
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am coelacanth∅:

Avatar 1:23am Honeybear:

@coelacanth∅ - yup sitzpinkler is another fine useful word. btw you might like this: i.pinimg.com...
Avatar 1:25am Honeybear:

'haus rules' in fact in most shared living quarters in that country. Let's just say than when you get a chance to live there for a while - you also get a chance to unlearn a lot of things
Avatar 1:26am Honeybear:

like this whole thing Americans have about wearing clothes when they go to the beach. what's that about?
Avatar 1:28am Honeybear:

(I'm bending the truth here slightly. Nude swimming is by no means the universal preference in Germany. And plenty of other European countries have hangups about it, or otherwise marginalize it as well. But still - it's a very different default reality, nonetheless).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am mariano:

Honeybear: I know just what you mean, lol! When I lived briefly in Berlin in the 90s, I went with some friends to Schlachtensee for a swim. Next thing I know, everyone's buck naked!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am coelacanth∅:

haha! that sign's hilarious, Honeybear!

- and yeah well, america's pretty puritanical...insecure babies.
Avatar 1:30am Honeybear:

ja klar warum nicht?
Avatar 1:32am Honeybear:

@coelacanth∅ - yup - the u.s. is ahead of the curve on some things. but so far behind the curve (and unaware that it is behind the curve) on other things
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35am mariano:

Honeybear: when I was in Europe in 1986 as part of a school group, my best friend and I got really drunk during the day in Munich, then when we went to the English Garden, we went skinny-dipping in front of everyone, teachers, parents, chaperones. It had something to do with our recent discovery of anarchism, or so we flattered ourselves into believing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36am coelacanth∅:

  1:40am jesse in illinois:

hey its that phantom figure SV! dig this tune : )
Avatar 1:43am Honeybear:

@mariano - good for you - it's nice to have these experiences at tender young ages. but the thing is, it really isn't about anarchism (as I see it). but rather - life in the u.s. really is very brutally controlled, and in so many ways that we don't even see it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46am mariano:

Yeah, we didn't have the most subtle understanding of anarchism. During that trip my friend and I were drunk 24/7 and we didn't even get into trouble because it was the 80s. Even snuck some weed over, and we somehow even managed to smoke a joint in a bathroom of the Dallas airport during our departure and not get caught.
Avatar 1:48am Honeybear:

what's scary though is that some people do get caught for such things - or even set up for nothing at all - and their life is completely ruined as a result
  1:51am jesse in illinois:

heya Rich, excellent show. I ve been listening since la mia mente but missed crazy horse and stonehenge, which is too funny... cuz i saw a news story tonite about how they are trying to jam in underground carparks near stonehenge and anti sentiment lol long live rock : )
  1:52am rich:

skinny-dippin’ anarchist sounds like it should be uttered in a firm manner followed by the spitting of chewing tobacco through the gap between teeth
  1:53am rich:

hi jesse underground carparks near stonehenge is a disturbing thought but anything that keeps the tourists going there instead of avebury should be considered
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55am mariano:

Amazing how relatively recently you could just go walk around inside Stonehenge. I think it was first roped off in the 80s, of course because of the Griswold Incident, as it came to be known.
Avatar 1:56am Honeybear:

Seattle is a rat disaster area. Every neighborhood has rats walking on the sidewalks between buildings and in bushes. The tunneling for the freeway went under downtown for 5 years and there have been over 90 holes dug for new high rises. Trip over the rats near where the Seattle Times used to be. Tonight I saw rats outside Swedish hospital.

At the beginning of the pandemic here in New Orleans there was a big rat problem in the Quarter because all of a sudden their food chain had been disrupted, with all the restaurants closing down.
Avatar 2:05am Wolfgang:

Rejoining the comments somewhat later... lecken is the verb for "to lick" - so lecker means kinda like - "I coud just lick it!" German is great. This Bart P. thing is awesome.
Avatar 2:05am Honeybear:

hey @rich - teraza 7 has been doing outdoor shows recently - last Sat had a Flamenco group which was quite good; and tomorrow nite we have: terraza7.com...
  2:05am rich:

honeybear avebury is wonderful standing stones (lots of standing stones), burial mound, sheep (lots of sheep). i stayed at an inn and it was a great hammer film experience. i walked in and everyone sitting at the bar got quiet and stared.
Avatar 2:06am ledzeppelinsucks:

That happened in San Francisco. Dwellings are so near restaurants that rodents moved into apartments and houses.
  2:07am rich:

thanks honeybear i didn’t see that when i looked at the page the other day i know next saturday there’s a tango band there. so do you have something to do with teraza 7?
Avatar 2:08am Honeybear:

@rich - sounds the spirts are much more active at Avebury - I'm sure they bailed Stonhenge long ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08am mariano:

Yes, but what edition of the Guinness Book?
Avatar 2:09am Wolfgang:

My sense about Germany is that it's actually become more conservative with things ike nude bathing - nudity on TV - you used to see a fair amount of it, even in prime time. Not any more. In some ways, it's socially progressive in other ways - most definitely christian-conservative. Abortion? Safe and legal, but only for 12 weeks!! Gay marriage was only really legalized a few years back Civil unions were alowed in '99 but adoption, sharing of finances and stuff. --not then it wasn't. Pot? Not legal, and no plans to make it so.
Avatar 2:11am Honeybear:

@rich - re: teraza 7 no connection - I just go there from time to time. it's actually (like many places) better now that it's been pushed outdoors
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11am JohnEBGood:

Love New Amsterdam and New Netherlands history. It be what it be!
Avatar 2:11am Wolfgang:

Note: Wolfgang = Stork. I hopped over to my laptop and my default commenting name is Wolfgang. Still haven't figured out how to fix that (and not sure I want to).
  2:14am rich:

hello ledzeppelinsucks, johnebgood, and welcome back wolfgang
Avatar 2:16am ledzeppelinsucks:

hi rich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am mariano:

Wolfgang: in Germany I also noticed a pretty big disparity between the cities and small towns in terms of general permissiveness. My data points are Norden, Crailsheim, Hemsbach, and a few others over the years I'd have to try to remember. Definitely a vibe similar to small towns in the American South. Of course everyone was very friendly and hospitable, but you could tell it was a much more conservative mindset.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22am coelacanth∅:

well they love visitin' just long's no skinny-dippin' anarchists come around
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24am mariano:

coela: You're right. It probably didn't help that I was naked the entire time I was in those towns.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am coelacanth∅:

(except for the big A painted on your chest)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am mariano:

Painted?! Shaved, bub! And not just on my chest.
  2:25am Tamar:

Teraza 7 has a nice outdoor set-up, people well spaced. But will they have heat lamps now that it’s below 60 degrees?
Oh, Hello, visitors to the Carcasa.
Avatar 2:26am Honeybear:

@Wolfgang - yup nude bathing has been dialed down a notch, but it's still going strong (last I checked). Abortion is less available than in the U.S. - but then the rights we have here are constantly under attack, and can change on a dime. Pot isn't legal - but it was also effectively decriminalized long beore it was even thinkable to think of some kind of a relaxation of the drug laws in the U.S.
Avatar 2:27am Honeybear:

Will anything be open for more than a few more weeks in NYC? Nobody knows
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29am mariano:

Honeybear:i Yeah, I loved being able to smoke weed pretty much anywhere, especially in Berlin. The one time we were told at a cafe that we couldn't smoke a joint at the table but had to step outside, the owner was very apologetic.
  2:30am rich:

nothing brings out the conservative in a small town like a naked visitor walking around spouting kropotkin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30am mariano:

rich: They couldn't handle me because I was too REAL, man!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am coelacanth∅:

it's true. mariano's real.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33am coelacanth∅:

like hellman's.
Avatar 2:33am Honeybear:

@mariano - yup - you've been able to roll a hash joint in public in most of Germany (except the "deep south") for as long as I can remember. Not so in the U.S. So - not free and legal - but far less oppressive than the U.S. has been, and for a very long time
Avatar 2:34am Honeybear:

BTW they've definitely been discussing legalization (especially in Berlin where the open-air weed markets have been a nuisance for years). So they're taking the slow and moderate approach. It's... the German way.
Avatar 2:35am Honeybear:

BTW I'd just like to know that the current set is fine drugs indeed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37am coelacanth∅:

i'm going to catch this next dirigible to slumberland.
Thanks Rich and Thanks skelecrew
'night y'all
  2:38am rich:

goodnight coel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38am mariano:

Lol, coela! I've been likened to far more insidious things than mayo, so I'll take it. And good night!

Honeybear: it's starting to change though as more states legalize. Weed, in my experience, has always been easy to get and smoke, in some places pretty openly, despite its status. The worst thing is that it's been used by police to target minorities.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39am Joe D.:

the low end bloops on this song have made me realize that yes, my left stereo speaker does in fact have some kind of tear in it
Avatar 2:41am Honeybear:

It's one of the few, but pleasantly surprising positive changes in the U.S. in recent years (legalization). Really never thought I would live to see it happen. But other stuff that's been going on here... let's not talk about it just now.
  2:42am rich:

good morning joe glad that the show has finally proven to be useful
Avatar 2:45am Honeybear:

this current track brings me to a very nice place indeed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45am mariano:

Honeybear: true, though unfortunately a good portion of the world seems caught up in a spasm of fascism. I think it's political herpes: it can be treated but not completely cured, and sometimes there are flare-ups when treatment is ignored.
  2:46am rich:

and sorry that your speaker has a tear in it i think one of ours does also
