Good morning 12539, Nulsh, Heidee and Really Lisa. Good morning Ruth! We're going to go gentle into this weekend...
Avatar 6:04am Heidee:

Look everybody, Lisa and me have created a woof-moo avatar double. Hi Lisa! :-)

Hi Jeffrey.
I'm up for gentle on this beautiful autumnal morning, here in Scotland.

Good morning Stanley, Aaron Working in Newark, LiXiviated Life (really beautiful choice...thank you), garlic lover, ZeeBee and Sem. And thanks for the new woof-moo, Heidee and Lisa..xx
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12am Stanley:

Hi Sem, nice to see you so bright and early.
I've spent the last hour in the sunshine watching the small birds come and go at the feeder.

Good morning TDK60!
By the way, all, the guitarists here: Glenn Kimpton & Paul Bradley
Avatar 6:16am Sem:

Yes, the birds know a good thing, don't they? The flock of mourning doves I feed start looking for their millet in late October. How could I disappoint them?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19am Stanley:

You would never disappoint them, Sem.
Boots on, we're out for a walk.
See youz later

Hello Jeffrey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24am Jeffrey Davison:

I know that for many of us, there is less money coming in, but if you have the means please try and support local food banks and larger organizations of that type. Anything helps. If possible, restaurants are mostly in dire shape and need your business. Just ordering a couple of bottles of wine from a restaurant helps. Bookstores are hurting, as Amazon has scooped up more business than ever. For instance, the Strand Bookstore here in NYC is in trouble, though a recent flood of online orders, in response, has helped. MacNally Jackson is also in need of your help. And in Paris, the legendary Shakespeare and Company is in trouble also. For the latter, you can buy a gift certificate for the book lover of your choice. I can't imagine these cities without these, and other wonderful bookstore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Bas NL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25am Jeffrey Davison:

A pledge, with a lovely comment, from Anna-Liisa in Helsinki...thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28am Jeffrey Davison:

Hard to choose the best acoustic guitarist, even leaving aside classical guitarists who I am less familiar with, but Allred is certainly in the running. I would add Glenn Jones, Gwenifer Raymond, Daniel Bachman...but jeez there are so many great ones nowadays.
Avatar 6:30am Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hello Ruth, Jeffrey, and all
Avatar 6:30am Heidee:

Hi Sylvia, how are you doing?
Avatar 6:30am TDK60:

The Strand just opened a 2nd shop in the Upper West Side recently. I bought a paperback there. (W.E.B DuBois)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Sylvia (France-NYC)!
Avatar 6:33am Sylvia (France-NYC):

Heidee, hi, I'm doing ok, thank you. watching the news, daring to hope again, maybe
I love your woof-moo avatars with Lisa!
Avatar 6:34am Sylvia (France-NYC):

what I didn't know about The Strand, but not suprised: the owner is a very rich woman who has bought Amazon shares...
  6:35am Malcolm.:

Hey Jeffrey and listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39am Jeffrey Davison:

TDK60...ah, thank you. Did not know that. FYI, all, as of a couple of days ago, the Strand had temporarily suspended online sales, in order to catch up with the flood of new orders. A much-beloved institution in New York.
Sylvia: if you say she's rich, that may be. Certainly the Strand has been very successful but I did read an article about her and seem to recall (?) a rich husband, or did I just make that up? And that article did mention her buying Amazon shares, which seems ironic, but I guess just an investment decision. Amazon is here to stay. She (Nancy Bass) is not everyone's favorite person, and while the Strand was never an ideal workplace, it was mostly a stopping-over place for students and such. Still, they are needed all the same. Sorry to say that they are the last of the Fourth Avenue bookstores, and have held that dubious distinction for many years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Malcolm!
Avatar 6:42am Really Lisa:

Hi Sylvia, here here, on daring to hope. Glad you’re ok.
Avatar 6:42am Sylvia (France-NYC):

gift certificates from your fav stores and donations would make for great Christmas presents
Jeffrey: yes, The Strand is a great and important place to shop books and supplies, I agree on that. My comment was more about "we need to know all the facts", in this world of disinformation.
And they sell great tees!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47am Jeffrey Davison:

For me, the Strand's expansive offerings of photography books is one of the best things about them, since renovation. I do miss the floor-to-ceiling stacks of books, however. It seems like there were more undiscovered treasures in the old store, but the basement and 2nd floor are great too, not to mention the rare books upstairs. Haven't been up there in awhile, though I will say that many books up there are not really expensive, so worth poking around.
Avatar 6:47am TDK60:

Another indie bookstore hanging on is West Sider Books on Broadway at West 80th. Used books. They also have an annex on 72nd St. that sells used LPs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50am JimB:

Good morning, Jeffrey. Your acoustic guitar sets are always special. The all-guitar show of 9/13/03 is one of my favorite spots in the archive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51am Jeffrey Davison:

TDK60...yes, thanks for the reminder. A fine store. I have bought books there, though many more records there and in their 72nd St. store also. A good place for classical LPs, but records of all types.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning JimB, and thank you!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04am Jeffrey Davison:

When I recorded this, I wasn't sure if this was the same song as the one which is sung here, and enjoyed popularity in the early "folk revival". It is, and originally from the U.K. (All My Trials)

If interested in older folk, I was recently made aware of an old TV show Pete Seeger did in Newark, '65-'66 called Rainbow Quest. Shows found on Youtube. Last night I watched the segment with Donovan, Shawn Phillips, and Rev. Gary Davis.
Avatar 7:40am Heidee:

Morning John, where ru listening from?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41am Jeffrey Davison:

Heidee, Dansen Ungdom is Scandinavian but from where exactly I'm not sure, but evidently it is a well-known tune there.
TDK60, wow, that sounds great. Will check.

Good morning Buddha! I’m trying to get my card out in Monday’s mail, but need to buy some colored pencils first.
Re bookstores: yes, we all need to support our indie bookstores. We have a great one here in Montclair, Watchung Booksellers. Don’t know what I’d do without them. Just before Covid hit, I found a wonderful bookstore in New York: the Mysterious Bookshop, specializing in mystery and suspense.

Sylvia, yes, I have also listened on Mixcloud. Really handy.
Good morning Deborah!
Good morning Roadside Picnic, and that comp is a great one. I think it was tilted towards folk psych, if memory serves, and perhaps they thought that Pentangle was widely available otherwise as well.
