Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00am listener james from westwood:

Happy Sunday, Jeff and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am Jeff Golick:

@listener james! Welcome to November.
Avatar 9:01am hyde:

hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am WR:

9am has come so early, even with the extra hour last night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am fred:

Hello Jeff and listeners. Back to lockdown here, so I won't be headed out for a while
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Jeff Golick:

@hyde! @WR! @fred!
  9:03am DJpeterDE:

Good morning! Yes I am more alert than usual today, WR
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am WR:

Hi Fred, did you get in your planned visit with your father last week?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am listener james from westwood:

Marchvember 250th!
Avatar 9:05am Listener Gregory:

Good morning, all. I didn't watch the Hallowe'en returns last night. Who won?
Avatar 9:06am TDK60:

Good morning Jeff and out-destined.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Jeff Golick:

Greetings, @DJpeterDE!
@Listener Gregory -- presumably the ghouls.
@TDK60!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am WR:

OMG, she is untempering her notes on guitar in manner like Wyatt does his vocals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am WR:

Doug played a track from this Craig Harris record yesterday, coincidence or ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am WR:

gotta do some errands. Will be back in a bit to continue my random commenting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am Jeff Golick:

Guess who gave it to me, @WR...
Avatar 9:15am TDK60:

Fred, where are you, in repeat lockdown?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am fred:

@TDK60: I live in France, a few miles south of Paris
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am Jeff Golick:

Happy trails, @WR!
Avatar 9:21am Listener Gregory:

Jeff, there was a long solo saxophone part in there somewhere... end of Halvorson or beginning of Harris? Do you know who/what it was?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am Jeff Golick:

I believe it was Oliver Lake on the Craig Harris.
Avatar 9:21am TDK60:

Fred, Oh, that's right. Good luck. I live in NYC. We had it bad back in the spring. Not so bad now but numbers rising again a bit. Much worse in a lot of the rest of the US.
Avatar 9:22am Listener Gregory:

Jeff... that makes sense. Awesome solo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Jeff Golick:

Check that, @LG. Twas Steve Coleman.
Avatar 9:23am Listener Gregory:

Now I don't know who to believe.
  9:23am DJpeterDE:

We saw this line-up in concert 3 years ago. Retired White guy got up from audience to dance with them but basically fell over and the band members who he was trying to dance with had to help him back to his seat.. Wife just said “every event has the Sun Ra White guy.” Kids: don’t be the sun ra white guy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am fred:

I managed to see 2 gigs and 3 dance shows in the few weeks when these were allowed. Including one on the day of the new lockdown. It sucks, I'm afraid smaller venues and artists won't make it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Jeff Golick:

...or at least try not to fall over while being that guy. Good show, @DJpeterDE?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am fred:

@DJpeterDE: I decided many years ago to spare the world whatever my attempts at dancing were
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Jeff Golick:

You support dancing in other ways, @fred.
  9:33am DJpeterDE:

Allen-led band was sloppy but together in that Ellington way. The word “shambolic” is coming to mind, but with a positive connotation
Swag For Life Member 9:33am zzz:

just tuning in. really enjoying this middle blue. good morning all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am Jeff Golick:

Two baris on this Middle Blue number-- Give the Drummer Radio's own Dave Sewelson and Claire Daly, often his guest on the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am doctorjazz:

Hey D. O. ! Really like this Middle Blue!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am Jeff Golick:

Morning, @zzz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Jeff Golick:

Greetings, @doctorjazz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am doctorjazz:

Has a bit of the feel Of a Butch Morris conduction...
Avatar 9:38am Listener Gregory:

I think it's too early in the morning and maybe too chilly for me to enjoy this (Middle Blue).
Swag For Life Member 9:39am zzz:

checking out this release on bandcamp. next track featuring jamie daft and mike clark. nice
Swag For Life Member 9:39am zzz:

lol, *SAFT
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Jeff Golick:

It's kinda rough n ready for Sunday morning, for sure, @LG.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Jeff Golick:

Saft Punk would be quite a collab.
  9:41am Doug Schulkind:

Calgon and D:O Radio, take me away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Jeff Golick:

What *was* Calgon? Dish soap? Hey, @Doug!
Swag For Life Member 9:44am zzz:

also making me miss live music extra :( made the trek out to the falcon in marlboro ny to check out john medeski / marc ribot / joe dyson organ trio last weekend. first live music since march whooooa
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Jeff Golick:

Same, @zzz. (Missing it.) Great you got out to that gig, tho. I went to a museum yesterday. Felt like a pretty big deal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am doctorjazz:

Zzz, didn't realize they were still doing love shoes there (the last time I checked their site they didn't list them any more) went there to see Sex Mob a month or so ago, took the family, it was such a blast hearing live music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am doctorjazz:

No place like home, huh...?
Avatar 9:51am Listener Gregory:

There is no more appropriate family show than Sex Mob.
Avatar 9:51am TDK60:

(Big Trouble) Isn't that little melody the intro to 'Try a Little Tenderness' by Otis Redding?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Jeff Golick:

Yeah, I heard that go by, @TDK60...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am doctorjazz:

I heard it as"be it ever so humble, there's no place like home", similar tune...
Love this ecstatic Harris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am doctorjazz:

Hey, DJpeterDE, been listening to the show in the office and enjoying it!
  9:57am DJpeterDE:

There’s this

https://youtu.be/mzixL7Ef-bI
  9:57am DJpeterDE:

But also this

https://youtu.be/8yjGPgs0_S0
Swag For Life Member 9:57am zzz:

haha @listener gregory. i was SO upset to have missed that sex mob show, only heard about afterwards. @doctorjazz apparently you cannot advertise live music shows in ny and must only be ‘incidental’ music, i think it how they refer to it. which i think was why they pulled the dates from the website. check out the falcon website and you can join their mailing list where they are able to send you the details and take reservations. they are still having the dine-while-you-eat arrangement, i think they are moving indoors at reduced capacity. as an aside, what a cool venue! never been there before
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am WR:

love shoes. Your best autocorrect combo yet doctorjazz. Consider making that a thing.

Mary singing. Actually the first time I saw Mary Halverson was a duo with Jessica Pavone and Mary was singing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Mx. Granny (e/em):

greetings, Jeff and folx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Uncle Michael:

Been dinning the hell out of the show this morning, Jeff. Dinner'll be out of the oven in 20 minutes. It'll be leftovers at the dinner hour.
  10:00am DJpeterDE:

Amirtha Kidambi is the singer
  10:01am DJpeterDE:

Thanks Doc, glad you like the show! Prepping for Andrew Cyrille’s birthday in a few Tuesdays
Avatar 10:01am TDK60:

I need to read 'Black Reconstruction.' Been meaning to for a while!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am doctorjazz:

That Harris recording seems to be quite out of print and unavailable (at least in a quick on line search right now)
Avatar 10:03am Listener Gregory:

It is in print in my collection! I heard Craig Harris live in the 80s, and he made a strong impression on me. However, he seems to have slipped out of sight to some degree (mine, anyway) since.
  10:04am Doug Schulkind:

Calgon was bubble bath for harried homemakers of the 1960s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am WR:

Jeff, you are correct regarding MH not being on vocal.

Amirtha Kidambi - voice
Maria Grand - tenor saxophone, voice

I wonder if there is recording of the Pavone / Halvorson due. It was lots of short songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Jeff Golick:

@UM! Hey there. Your throwdown with Gaylord and Therese was stupendous. What's for dinner?
Avatar 10:08am hyde:

that pile of dolls is creeping me out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Jeff Golick:

@Doug: that makes more sense. The tag line lingers.

@WR: Pavone & Halvorson have a few records together in that mode; I have this one, which I can recommend: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am doctorjazz:

Saw him back then as well, @LG, also as part of Abdullah Ibrahim's group. Didn't turn it up for sale at 3 usual sites (Amazon, Discogs, his site)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Uncle Michael:

A sort of improvised Latinx chicken & rice.

I'm glad you enjoyed the show! Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am fred:

@doctorjazz: I guess the Harris record being unavailable means you saved some money today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am Uncle Michael:

Calgon schmalgon. Now I just smoke bath salts. Eventually I will be taken away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am doctorjazz:

@Fred...I suppose, though some other recordings from the show today are in my cart...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am fred:

@UM: They're coming to take you away? (Ha Ha!)
Avatar 10:13am Listener Gregory:

Even the name Starebaby is rather frightening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am doctorjazz:

WR, I'm the king of autocorrect gaffes!
Avatar 10:15am Listener Gregory:

This is real Hallowe'en music. I am guessing it's Taborn on the spooky piano part.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am doctorjazz:

The Weiss album cover is quite creepy.
  10:16am DJpeterDE:

I like this Starebaby better than the first. But so far I prefer the first Junk Magic to the new one. (Taborn is on both)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am fred:

Taborn is a genius
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Jeff Golick:

Agreed, @DJpeterDE. Starebaby might be better experienced live...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Jeff Golick:

@fred: this great profile of Taborn from a few years back agrees with you: www.nytimes.com...
  10:20am DJpeterDE:

@jeff Starebaby live would be awesome! Dry ice machines! Could be very Halloween-y
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am chresti:

Morning Jeff and OUTies! Making coffee..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Jeff Golick:

Hello, @chresti!

And a belated shout out to Mx. Granny, who flew by before I could say hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am fred:

At this stage, I'd happily settle for Babymetal. I miss live shows so much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am doctorjazz:

@Fred, this cd, for instance...
  10:24am DJpeterDE:

I really love this record. Lately I’ve been pursuing recent Bobby Bradford recordings.
Lots in No Business Records
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am Jeff Golick:

Yeah, NoBusiness is really keeping the Bradford flame going (and others).
Avatar 10:30am Listener Gregory:

Perhaps I'm drinking more coffee than is really good for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am fred:

@doctorjazz: I know, this show is dangerous to my wallet. But I got hefty if unknown local tax and insurance bills coming up, and I pledged more than expected, again, so I'm staying put on that front (though a Max Roach mention isn't helping)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am Doug Schulkind:

SO much love for the beautiful Roy Brooks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am doctorjazz:

This show is among the most costly things I do...
  10:34am sandy:

finally grabbed this LP w the 3rd slab of vinyl over the summer, too happy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am WR:

Bandcamp should give wfmu a % of proceeds, track links from FMU playlist. ;))
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Jeff Golick:

Well done, @sandy. Hi, @sandy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am doctorjazz:

Absolutely, WR, that Bandcamp look is DEADLY!
  10:36am sandy:

hey jeff! cheers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am doctorjazz:

(Bandcamp LINK, that is...)
  10:38am sandy:

4th slab*. i forgot how much is packed in that release
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Jeff Golick:

I imagine the bandstand has levitated by now.
Avatar 10:43am Listener Gregory:

@doctorjazz, no offense, but your typos are much more intriguing than the correct posts. It is like poetry, and the reader is faced with a multitude of interpretations. Please don't change!
Avatar 10:44am Listener Gregory:

I heard a rumor about a new Cubanos Postizos album coming out. Anyone know about it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am chresti:

Beware the deadly look of bandcamp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am fred:

@LG: Right on. "Love shoes" is reason enough to build a typo hall of fame, just so it gets in
Avatar 10:46am Listener Gregory:

@chresti, exactly.
Avatar 10:46am TDK60:

New York State residents - you have till 4 PM today to cast an early vote.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am doctorjazz:

: )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Jeff Golick:

@LG: have heard nothing, but I don't get out much; would be wonderful news.

@TDK60: voted early in NYC on Friday and got some pizza and a empanada while waiting in line!
  10:50am heinseng:

terrific show today thanks
Avatar 10:50am Stork:

Hola, gente! Just gettin' on the train now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am chresti:

LG, doctorjazz and ngh are tied for creative typo champion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am doctorjazz:

From the Bandcamp page...
Camila Nebbia’s music is strong, and it’s true. Her compositions are carved out of wood, she knows how to lead a band, and when she plays the saxophone you can hear the whole world opening up to greet you. These days a lot of people are looking for something to believe in, looking for knowledge and peace, looking for something real. Camila Nebbia is the real thing. You can believe in her. I do.” - Ben Goldberg (clarinetist/ composer)

Another track I really liked...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Doug Schulkind:

I'm holding out hope for the Love Shoes reunion tour. All-original lineup (except for the spoons player who became a Jehovah's Witness and has renounced all his prior "heathenous" ways).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Jeff Golick:

Alright, @heinseng! Glad to hear it, and glad to have you here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am fred:

Though it doesn't matter much if people in NY vote 90% for Biden. The electoral college makes it pointless. Pennsylvania is where it's at. So Doug should vote early, and often
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Jeff Golick:

Just like Jeremy Spencer, Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am doctorjazz:

(I'm relatively safe using cut/paste...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am chresti:

Haha soc I mean doc.
Avatar 10:54am TDK60:

Jeff, I was shocked when I voted Friday; the line took just a few minutes. It's been hours in other districts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am fred:

I knew Love Shoes sounded like someone's first band in high school
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am chresti:

fred, California is the same, fuck the electoral college and the rump trying to mess with the Census
Avatar 10:59am Listener Gregory:

Getting rid of the electoral college is maybe the single most effective way we have of trying to preserve democracy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Doug Schulkind:

My polling place is in the cafeteria of Lincoln's old middle school. Right at the end of our block. Jessie and Lincoln have already voted by mail (and verified that their ballots have been received). I am choosing to vote in person, because I don't trust anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Jeff Golick:

@Stork! What time is it??
Avatar 11:00am Stork:

It's 5 pm, Jeff. I should ask you the same! Can anyone confirm: is it 11 am there, or am I on?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am doctorjazz:

It's 11 am here in Joisey...
Avatar 11:03am Stork:

Thanks, Doc.
Avatar 11:03am TDK60:

I share your emphasis, Chresti. Hee. / The time changed today, and I hope we can also say the times they are a-changin' /again/.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am fred:

@Doug: Your distrust of everything is DJ experience: something will fail
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Doug Schulkind:

@Stork
I sent you an email yesterday reminding you of the time change, and your email bounced back with a scary MESSAGE BLOCKED warning.
Avatar 11:04am Stork:

One extra hour to vote, Americ! Unless you're voting for Trump, in which case, make sure you vote - on Friday.
Avatar 11:05am Listener Gregory:

Forgive me for saying that Montreux should not be pronounced as if it is Montreau (bureau, beau, etc.). That final vowel is like in "took" or "put." To be fair, it is consistently pronounced the first way, encouraging people to repeat it.
Avatar 11:06am Stork:

Whoa, that's weird, Doug. Mail's been working, so far as I can tell.
Avatar 11:06am DJpeterDE:

Thanks for the Virelles pronunciation tip
Avatar 11:08am Stork:

Early voting in NY? 'Bout fucking time. Some blue state.
Avatar 11:08am DJpeterDE:

"la politique des auteurs" was the title of Truffaut's essay in Cahiers du Cinéma, basically advancing the "auteur theory" (but also much more)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am Asheville Jon:

You're welcome Doug. Thanks for the great shows, and thanks for the mention!
Avatar 11:09am DJpeterDE:

Thanks also for Montreux pronunciation tip, which I know realize is indeed what the French announcer on all those Pablo Montreux records is saying
Avatar 11:09am Listener Gregory:

@Jeff, you deserve the real thanks for putting together this unique show.
Avatar 11:12am Stork:

I didn't thank you during the Hellraiser, Jeff, but thanks for doing such compelling radio and being such a swell Stream-Mate!! I'm an Outie for life!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am fred:

@LG: Thanks, I had no idea that's the way they pronounce that name, I got it wrong the French way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am WR:

I think for presidential elections it is very important to still vote even if you think your state is guaranteed to go for your candidate. Clinton narrowly won the popular vote, but if it happens that a candidate overwhelmingly wins the popular vote but loses the electoral college then reform becomes more possible. Of course need to get the senate on board for that as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Jeff Golick:

So it's Mon-TRUH? Go know! Thanks, @LG.
And, @DJpeterDE - please do not rely on me for pronunciation tips. I only sound like I know what I'm saying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Jeff Golick:

Hooray, @Ashville Jon!
Avatar 11:18am DJpeterDE:

Jeff: i've been warned, but you probably encounter more Spanish spoken in your part of the world. (of course, as we discussed here a few weeks ago, many of us pronounce our names the English way. If "Virelles" were on my grade roster on day one of in-person teaching, my policy is to pronounce it the American way first and then verify that it is correct. I would prefer to be told 'we pronounce it the Spanish way' than be told 'okay "woke-guy" dial it down a notch.")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @Stork, I see you and could not ask for a better Sunday partner! One day...we will meet!
Avatar 11:20am DJpeterDE:

Okay just clicked through and i'm really excited to learn there is a quartet record that begins with Brahms and ends with George Lewis. Bandcamp Friday is coming up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am fred:

@WR: Clinton didn't narrowly win the popular vote, but that had no effect at all. The senate is where that might change, so it's not happening
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am doctorjazz:

My new lunk only policy...: )
www.nytimes.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Asheville Jon:

ugh, yeah I meant Jeff. no idea why i said Doug. sorry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Jeff Golick:

It's an honor to be called Doug around these parts, @Jon.
Avatar 11:21am Listener Gregory:

@DJpeter, I have tried to pronounce a student's name, asked if that was right, and the student has said, "Yeah, fine." Then if I ask the student to say the name, it turns out that I was wrong. It's very strange. They don't want to embarrass a teacher, I guess.
Avatar 11:23am DJpeterDE:

@Doc, quick scan of that Times article, i appreciate the caveats about the "compact" proposal (which is nowhere near to being adopted but a fascinating idea)
Avatar 11:25am DJpeterDE:

@LG I answer to Feng and to Fung and I'm not bothered. I certainly understand why someone would want their name pronounced in a particular way and try to do that for them, but I myself don't care. (I'm saying: it's not just not embarrassing the teacher, but having made the decision that the time spent correcting you is not worth it.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am doctorjazz:

It's been around for a while, the same problem comes up, States that are considered "battleground" like the attention and power it gives them, hard to give up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Mx. Granny (e/em):

enjoying these strange sounds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am chresti:

Canadian French is pronounced a little differently, less liaison and a little slower, I can sometimes recognize the words when they're spoken.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am fred:

@LG: same here: students let teachers decide how their name should sound, out of fear. And teachers hate to be in that position!
Avatar 11:27am Stork:

Hey, Mx. Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am chresti:

Grannykins!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Jeff Golick:

Glad to hear it, @Mx. Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am doctorjazz:

My last name (Skowron), is almost universally misspelled and mispronounced. I rarely bother correcting (unless asked)
Avatar 11:29am Stork:

Inshallah, JeffG!
Avatar 11:30am TDK60:

I'm going to hit the streets soon, no matter what. On Nov. 3, may observe my nearby polling place, to see if any self-described boys are around. I doubt it, in this neighborhood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Jeff Golick:

Watched the (not very good, imo) Trial of the Chicago 7 movie and Abbie Hoffman played by Sasha Baron Cohen (with a terrible Mass accent) explains his last name in interesting fashion, on the stand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am doctorjazz:

My daughter even likes pronouncing it differently...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am fred:

@doctorjazz: Is it Polish?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am chresti:

Be safe, brave TDK60!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Jeff Golick:

Great, @TDK60. There's some horrid maga convoy thing happening today in NYC, fyi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am BadBob:

Re: electoral college: someone told me last night tge rules are a bit different this time around in tgat a handful of states will change their electoral votes to the popular vote if its higher than the electoral count. And if/when that happens, to either side, im sure it will cause a shitstorm
Avatar 11:32am Stork:

jeff, I know you don't program the show according to the most beautiful album covers, but today is nothing but beautiful album covers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Jeff Golick:

Thanks for that, @BadBob. No one gives up power easily.

Props to the designers, @Stork!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Jeff Golick:

(Would be interesting to program a show via album covers, tho.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am doctorjazz:

@Fred, it is (it was originally Skowronski-my dad cut off the ski trip make it easier to pronounce and to fit in the boxes on forms. It did help for the latter goal...)
Avatar 11:34am TDK60:

Jeff, I saw one of those last week. I gave 2 thumbs down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am fred:

@BadBob: This would only take place if enough states (as in college electors) were in, which isn't happening this year
Avatar 11:34am Listener Gregory:

@BadBob, I don't think that proposal is actually in force yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am chresti:

When I first started checking records out of the library, I would often pick the ones with the coolest looking cover, (when I was 11)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am doctorjazz:

It isn't in force until enough States agree to it to give them a majority of Electoral College vote's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am chresti:

Ski trip, haha
Avatar 11:38am Stork:

There is actually some concurrence between good album art and good music. You can't bank on it, but there is some wisdom in judging an album by its cover. Although there's plenty of bad music in good covers, and v.v.
Avatar 11:38am TDK60:

Jeff, I saw Rubin's old girlfriend critique the Chicago 7 movie in an article on Counterpunch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am chresti:

@doc^
Avatar 11:40am TDK60:

Bryce's show often has good album covers. Funny to say, on "radio."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am fred:

@doctorjazz: Polish is tough: The main force in experimental music here is called Jedrek (with some diacritics missing), and it sounds more like Jandek (which makes sense, in a way)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Jeff Golick:

@Stork: the Craig Harris, above, is an example of the kind of cover I wouldn't be drawn to...missing out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am chresti:

Agree, TDK60, Bryce's show covers.
Avatar 11:42am TDK60:

Jeff, that MAGA caravan was heading north in Manhattan. Wonder if they turned around before reaching Harlem/Wash. Hts!
Avatar 11:42am DJpeterDE:

It's not that the Harris cover is bad, it's that it shouts "cusp of the 1980s"
Avatar 11:43am Stork:

@Jeff: agree: Eddie Harris had really tacky covers, but the music was always good to excellent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am doctorjazz:

Saw a documentary I enjoyed last night, Bathtubs over Broadway, on netflix for another week or so. About Industrial Show Music (not the same Industrial music you'd hear here)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am BadBob:

As a young boy from a family with no musical taste whatsoever i recall purchasing albums based solely on album art. I think i found bitches brew and sextent(herbie hancock) that way which got me off to a good start
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am fred:

@doctorjazz: would it be a fit for Bronwyn B's show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Jeff Golick:

That's a great doc, @doc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Jeff Golick:

I think the first LP I bought on looks alone was the Violent Femmes first.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am doctorjazz:

@Fred, it could be, though it is about shows never meant for general release. Companies like General Motors would commission big budget musicals about their products, to be put on only for their employees.
Avatar 11:50am TDK60:

Gotta run. Thanks Jeff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @TDK60! Take care!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am doctorjazz:

They're amazingly outlandish.
Avatar 11:52am DJpeterDE:

Wow, someone listened to a lot of Gil Evans
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am chresti:

The typography design looks generic on the Harris cover, just reducing the size and placement would help.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am doctorjazz:

You can't decide if there incredibly great or incredibly bad...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am fred:

I think the first record I bought for the cover was "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven" I was actually looking for Juliana Hatfield stuff I might have missed at the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am doctorjazz:

Speaking of incredibly great, Thursdays Child...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Jeff Golick:

@Chresti: agreed! The bricks don't do it for me, either.
Avatar 11:53am Listener Gregory:

@fred, was that Godspeed You?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Jeff Golick:

This one won't hurt your bank account, @doc, if you can stand to buy digital.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am fred:

@LG: Yep
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am chresti:

That title is very enticing, fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am doctorjazz:

Thanks, Jeff. Later, all!
Avatar 11:55am Listener Gregory:

No, no, not the flute!
Avatar 11:55am hyde:

thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am chresti:

Thanks Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Mx. Granny (e/em):

hey! thanks, Jeff! wonderful sounds. Thanks WFMU folx one and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am fred:

And that eventually led me to Instants Chavirés, then WFMU. That slippery slope is a thing
Avatar 11:56am Listener Gregory:

Thanks a lot, Jeff. Have to rake an infinite number of leaves before it starts to rain, so cannot attend the Stork Club today. Great show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am WR:

The New Jazz Orchestra? Gil Evans? Yes. Now that you mention it, I hear that.

Electoral vs. Popular, Clinton had about 2% nearly 3 million votes. By significant i mean more like 10%. An, great music today and great people. Take care all. Onward.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am doctorjazz:

Eating my leftover Halloween candy for breakfast...
Avatar 11:58am Stork:

Jon Gibson was a gentle, generous guy who also happened to be an exquisite player. RIP.
Avatar 11:58am Stork:

Thanks, Jeff. Another sweet one in the books.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Doug Schulkind:

Big love to you, Jeff and to all dearly assembled!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am spodiodi:

thanks, Jeff. tell it like it is <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am David Dichelle:

Fine show, thanks Jeff!
Avatar 12:00pm DJpeterDE:

Thank you Jeff. As the Louvin Bros. would say "self-care is real"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Jeff Golick:

Bye, @doctorjazz, @Listener Gregory, @hyde, @chresti, @Mx.Granny, @WR, @fred, @ljfw, @Stork, @Doug, @spodiodi (hi!), @David Dichelle (hi!), @DJpeterDE, and all!
