Dutch beat, rock and pop, roughly between 1960 - 1980. We not only focus on shocking blue earrings washing up the sandy coast after tea, but we're also getting our shoes wet digging up nits from a kayak with our supersister

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Rich in Washington:

Oh boy! Sorry to hear, Jan, but it sounds like your government is handling it better than mine.
Avatar 12:07pm Ursula1000:

hey Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi U1k!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Jan Turkenburg:

well, this gvnment's handling was judged upon harshly today, because it looks like they should have done this much earlier. Prospects aren't good.
Avatar 12:14pm Mr Fab:

Jan, take comfort in knowing that you put a real smile on my face with “Hocus Focus.” I had that very single and hadn't heard it in ages. Still pretty amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Jan Turkenburg:

:-) Hi Mr. Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Jan Turkenburg:

bongo's and a silly title, this song's perfect!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Jan Turkenburg:

AND Barry Hay still playing the flute.
Avatar 12:18pm Franco Twinkie:

These are the sounds of Holland? Okay, great. I believe you Jan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Franco!
Avatar 12:22pm Mr Fab:

Hi all! Franco, i was imagining your story on the chat yesterday as a movie. But who would play Gwenn?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Rich in Washington:

I love this song so much!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Jan Turkenburg:

:-)
Avatar 12:27pm Franco Twinkie:

Little Green Bag was quite big on L.A. radio back in the day.
Avatar 12:27pm Mr Fab:

ANOTHER record i used to have. Well, on a K-Tel comp. wow, had no idea Im such an expert on Dutch music, ha ha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Jan Turkenburg:

Much better than Una Paloma Blanca, hey...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Rich in Washington:

Oh wow. I had no idea this was a Dutch band!
Avatar 12:31pm Mr Fab:

“Little green bag” was much, much better than Una Paloma Blanca, but that was a bit of a hit here too.
Avatar 12:32pm Mr Fab:

Blimey, but that Blimey! was very Residential. Does much of their stuff sound that nutty?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Jan Turkenburg:

@ Mr fab, yes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Rich in Washington:

Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Rich in Washington:

I'm gonna go smoke a bong behind the bowling alley now.
Avatar 12:37pm Franco Twinkie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm notsoKWYET:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Jan Turkenburg:

Well, its definitely a 5 time.
Avatar 12:44pm Franco Twinkie:

Mr. Fab@12:22 Honestly, I've never thought about it in those terms. Probably because it's always been my own private drive-in movie with all the real life characters.
Avatar 12:54pm Mr Fab:

The Young Ones! Is this Neil singing? Or Viv?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Jan Turkenburg:

Which instruments do we have to break?
Avatar 12:56pm worldsworstrecords:

This is a bit nuts
Avatar 12:56pm Ursula1000:

HEy Beukorkest--say it don't spray it
Avatar 12:56pm worldsworstrecords:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Carmichael:

Avatar 1:04pm worldsworstrecords:

Turn it up, Jan!
Avatar 1:05pm Ursula1000:

I vividly remember getting this and being absolutely blown away--pretty flawless album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Jan Turkenburg:

Alfred Lagarde played this each week at his "Beton" (= concrete) hour tuesdays when we got out of school
Avatar 1:09pm Mr Fab:

Pasadena is an affluent area of Los Angeles, known mainly for science centers (Caltech, JPL). The only prominent musical acts i can think of from there are, oddly enough, Van Halen and their complete and utter opposite, the LA Free Music Society.
Avatar 1:12pm Ursula1000:

Fab: and Stan Freberg oddly enuff!
Avatar 1:13pm Ursula1000:

oooh LOVE Lemming! Luciferia! Killer Halloween jam

Avatar 1:21pm Franco Twinkie:

But Fab, The crossover would amaze you. Pasadena is/was a place that had all sorts of wonderfully berserk stuff going on
Avatar 1:21pm worldsworstrecords:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Jan Turkenburg:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Jan Turkenburg:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Carmichael:

My 3 favorite "C" bands are Caravan, Camel and Kayak.

Avatar 1:48pm worldsworstrecords:

THE SHOES!!!
Avatar 1:51pm Mr Fab:

Huh, there was a beloved '70s/'80s power-pop group called The Shoes. My wife loves 'em - they're from her native Illinois - but they never made it to Knack or CHeap Trick-like levels of popularity. Were these Shoes big in the Netherlands?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, not as big as Shocking Blue, but pretty big though.
Avatar 1:53pm worldsworstrecords:

perhaps the Dutch Shoes should have changed their name to the Clogs...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, i found the 'other shoes' in the wfmu archive with a lot of titles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Jan Turkenburg:

LOL, WWR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Carmichael:

I would love to go to Holland, wooden shoe?
