Avatar 7:43pm Gold Pants:

Hi Gary, good tunes! *zealous waving from Jessica L*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm chresti:

They are in high demand around the Lunar New Year, Someone raided our across the street neighbors' grapefruit tree one year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Gary:

OMG, JL in the GPssss!
Avatar 7:45pm Gold Pants:

Just chillaxin' in my sauna suit, my usual ensemble while listening to Bodega Pop
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm spodiodi:

the nerve! i had no idea. also didn't realize the popular citrus fruits are a result of hybridization / human interaction... and that they are the result of "base citrus" fruits -- just learned it all from the article linked in my profile
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm Gary:

Haha, I totally forgot that's what that suit is, but just expanded your avatar pic, JL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Charlie:

I don't always feel this when I listen to music in other languages, but I'd love to know what that great track by Mubashira Mataali Group was about. Epic!
  7:47pm peter:

hi, all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Gary:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm chresti:

Nicey nice.
Avatar 8:06pm LambdaCalculus:

That organ sounds a little like Mulatu Astatke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm Gary:

It does! Could be a sample? Not sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm Gary:

Well, yes, I think it *is* a sample, but not sure if it's Astatke or not
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm Charlie:

love this one (Temusewa Mukasa)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm Charlie:

(or, apparently, whatever that was;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm Gary:

Haha; sorry, Charlie, I misidentified it -- that was Ennanga Vision
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm Charlie:

OK, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm Charlie:

hey, spodiodi, that grapefruit article is pretty interesting! I knew that it interacts with some drugs, but I didn't know it was that many. dangerous fruit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm spodiodi:

glad you liked it, Charlie! I'd always noticed that warning on certain scripts of my own, but never really knew why. guessed it was just a high citrus level. i thought the whole base fruits being used to make other fruits was pretty interesting too! i still need to finish it myself :" (got too tired while reading last night, and have been busy all day.)
  8:56pm Marie:

Hey Gary, loving the show! I was lucky enough to be in Uganda for a little while a few years ago and went to Victoria Falls, which is stunning. PS: I loved your reggae show and recently have been listening to the episode featuring Toots (and the Maytals?)--fantastic. Thanks for all you do, Gary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm Gary:

Awww, thank you, Marie -- and so jealous of your stay in Uganda!
  9:00pm Marie:

Yeah, going to Africa was a lifelong dream. My trip was a small group tour that I took with a friend and we spent most of our time in South Africa but then we headed up to Uganda to see Victoria Falls. After that we took a cruise on the Zambezi river at sunset where we saw tons of elephants and lots of hippos! It was like a dream come true. Some of those small group tours can be pretty reasonable (but then there is airfare...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Charlie:

Yes, Gary, you are correct.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm WR:

@spodiodi, interesting grapefruit link. Such a large range of meds affected, safest to not combine grapefruit with any med. Also the story is interesting regarding the development of grapefruit. I love grapefruit but when I was put on cholesterol med a few years ago I was warned about it. The article explains why..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm WR:

As you often do, Gary, this show has an amazing range of recordings. I got pulled back into work right after the show started so will be be doing a close listen from the archive.

hi Gary and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Gary:

coelacanth∅!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm spodiodi:

cool, WR! i thought so too. glad you liked it (still need to read it all myself.) i grapefruit too, but i think the last grapefruit kick we were on ended due to laziness (ahem) -- i'm ready to get on another kick though. i found the development part *really* interesting (i just always assumed it was originally found naturally as we now know it.)

aloha coelacatnh∅!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm spodiodi:

Gary, i love your show for a few reasons, but one of my favorite reasons is that i feel like i've been hanging out in a totally different place while listening. thank you for finding and sharing all of this great music. <3
