Hi Grannikins!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Jan Turkenburg:

You're making me curious, Granny
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Lizardner Dave 2:

I imagined that cat vs dog fight with the Star Trek fight music playing in the background..www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Mx. Granny (e/em):

Jan: the lyrics go something like Meow! Meow!
Won't you let me go to sleep?
Not now, meow, not now not now!
I'll throw shoes and knives!
Every kitten's got 9 lives!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Jan Turkenburg:

aha, so the problem is you don't have the title and it could be any of these songs...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am chresti:

Grannykins!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am Jan Turkenburg:

I don't know either. I don't listen to all the songs entirely and I'm paying more attention to the music to see if it fits after the previous song than the lyrics.. Let's hope it comes along.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am Mx. Granny (e/em):

yeah, no title, no artist, just something i heard many years ago. sounds like it might have been from a cartoon
Avatar 10:32am worldsworstrecords:

I've always loved this song, but I know it by another singer
Avatar 10:33am worldsworstrecords:

...Leslie Sarony, the man who wrote 'Let's All Be Fairies'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Jan Turkenburg:

ah!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Mx. Granny (e/em):

this has a George Formby feel
Avatar 10:38am worldsworstrecords:

'spaghetti means a Wop...' ouch!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Mx. Granny (e/em):

oh, man, i didn't catch that. ouch indeed. these old songs…
Avatar 10:39am worldsworstrecords:

Different times, different people...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Mx. Granny (e/em):

as TMBG said, "the words i'm singing now mean nothing more than 'meow' to an animal"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Jan Turkenburg:

good one

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Mx. Granny (e/em):

hey, spodiodiodio!
Avatar 10:48am RebelEars:

Lovin' this! I'm a cat lady, and today's my 65th birthday. Wondering what the under 64 not allowed" means--was shellac discontinued in 1956?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Mx. Granny (e/em):

Happy solar return, RebelEars!!
Avatar 10:49am RebelEars:

Thanx Mx. Granny!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Rebelears! Welcome and Happy Birthday! Yes, you're right, Roughly round 1957, although in some places were there wasn't electricity for most people like Indonesia. 78rpm continued to be released a few years longer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am Jan Turkenburg:

they stuck longer to the hand wound up grammophones.
Avatar 10:52am RebelEars:

Cool 2 know. Thank u!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Mx. Granny (e/em):

yeah, i know that if the world shuts down completely, i still got my hand-cranked Victrola and Portola to provide my favorite recordings!
  10:58am spodiodi:

Avatar 11:04am Martinibomb:

@gran I also have a hand-cranked Victrola and I think exactly the same thing. I got my piano and my victrola - thats all I need in life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am chresti:

We have guitars, a clarinet, a harmonica, and a marimba, no victrola..a drum..

The three blind mice making a guest appearance :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Rich in Washington:

Hi Jan!
Hi everybody!
Avatar 11:22am Martinibomb:

I'm a big jaw harp fan - I was driving down the coast one day and saw a big banner that said, "jew's harp festival" in bold letters - I mean somebody had to actually make that sign - so of course I had to stop. I walked into this building and it was a bunch of hippies sitting in a circle - okay that's fine. But the problem... the place smelled like, Milk?? LIke rotting milk - so yeh had to get out of there pronto!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Jan Turkenburg:

Rich!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Mx. Granny (e/em):

MB: ?!?!?!? i guess i would've had to take a peek, too, but ?!??!?!?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Mx. Granny (e/em):

and any song with any amount of jaw harp = clicky star for me every time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Mx. Granny (e/em):

hi, Rich!
Avatar 11:26am StringOFperils:

mBomb....preparing a TOAST file for you now....will email in a bit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Mx. Granny (e/em):

what i really miss is having a banjo—every time i hear one i want to play one
Avatar 11:27am Ursula1000:

jaw harp probably not the best instrument to play right now what w the potential spit flying everywhere!
Avatar 11:27am Martinibomb:

hah! yeh it's a non covid friendly instrument. I keep one next to my Dj mic... ya never know
Avatar 11:29am Martinibomb:

I've always wanted to swap out all the banjos here in the US with Samisen and vice versa -- like if they only had banjos in Japan and Samisen here LoL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Jan Turkenburg:

:-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am chresti:

I love jaw harp! I have one but have not mastered it yet.
Avatar 11:30am Martinibomb:

I want someone to play cripple creek on teh samisen damnit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Mx. Granny (e/em):

U1K: however, being a drone instrument, it's not bad for playing on zoom calls! the lag doesn't affect it much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Mx. Granny (e/em):

chrestikins: i had a hard time getting good sounds out of a jaw harp until i tried a Vietnamese version. Also, the Nepalese style is easier than the type you usually see here in the US
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Lizardner Dave 2:

Wait a minute....is this song REALLY about a cat?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Jan Turkenburg:

uuuhm....
Avatar 11:34am Martinibomb:

they sure like cats a lot in these old songs.
Avatar 11:34am RebelEars:

Love that, Mx. Granny, on drones and Zoom lag, drones rule.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Mx. Granny (e/em):

here's the Vietnamese jaw harp: larkinthemorning.com...
Avatar 11:36am Martinibomb:

aah the vietnamese one is more like a traditional bone mouth harp
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am chresti:

Oooh..thanks Grannykins!
Avatar 11:38am RebelEars:

Not played against the teeth--a good feature! My dentist will approve!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Mx. Granny (e/em):

From discogs: "Jane Lucas is a pseudonym for Mozelle Alderson, who also used the names Hannah May, Kansas City Kitty. She recorded between 1927 and 1934, accompanied first by Blind James Beck and Judson Brown, but most of her recordings were with the Hokum Boys, Tom Dorsey and Big Bill Broonzy."

The late, great Jean Shepherd was a fine jaw harp player, though since his prime was in the mid-20th century he referred to it by its less-correct name www.mixcloud.com...

And while youse guys were going on about banjos and jaw harps, I was reading about why Harry Reser often performed and recorded as Cliqout Club Eskimos. Turns out it was product endorsement. For a soft drink company.
