Artist Track Comments
The rules of the game are as follows: Employing a series of yes-or-no questions on this show's comments board, anyone and everyone who chooses to play may pose questions to determine the name of a predetermined song by a specific artist. (A WFMU account is not required, but having one will expedite gameplay.) The show's panel of judges will respond to any legitimate question in either the affirmative or the negative, which should serve the purpose of getting closer to the correct answer. If, at any time, the questions are determined to not be progressing gameplay, the host may exercise the option of providing a clue or clues to move the game along. The contestant who correctly names both the song and the performing artist in question wins the following grand prize: WFMU's brand-new Electric Cactus T-shirt (pictured above) in Hunter Green, in the size (S–XXL) and style (women's or men's cut) of their choosing. Two rounds will be played, one per hour, and if the correct answer is not guessed by 55 minutes after the hour, that round is declared over, with no prize awarded until the next round. Good luck!

If it's a shared prize and an article of clothing, maybe consider offering a horse costume next year?
  8:49pm Steve Stein:

A lotta fun! Nice job everyone!
  8:49pm Dean:

Yes, Gaylord, I did. I am ordinarily not at all a fan of "trivia" games, but I love the Scholastic approach to this game, whittling away in a binary fashion until the ONLY POSSIBLE ANSWER could be "Fake Fight." I mean, c'mon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm Gaylord Fields:

Then Dean gets the shirt! Email me after the show.

You should wrassle for the

  8:57pm CC:

Finally... we will get to hear what you were thinking of in your mind... Gaylord..!... it better be good!!!!...:)
  8:57pm Listener Robert:

Well, CC, one episode started with the camera panning down past a big "W" of palms to where two of the characters were digging under it. Plus another character's leitmotif was a quote from the theme. And another viewer thought a shot of one character resembled Phil Silvers. All clues to the fact "Lost" was about a competition for ill-gotten riches.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm Gaylord Fields:

And if it isn't, then what?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Gaylord Fields:

F-bomb dispensed with — go jump in a lake, FCC!

  9:17pm Dean:

@Joe B.: I guess I'm taking a more phenomenological than ontological view of the song. It sounds like the band giving Timothy space to contribute.

Well, in fact, he will succeed in politics by telling a truth that misleads everybody.
  9:21pm Mike From Brooklyn:

@Dean - well yes, there is that factor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Gaylord Fields:

@Listener Robert: I don't know how to answer that; can you ask another way?

"Three clues for Round Two: 1. Commercially available in the US; first released in the 21st century; I've played it on my show before."

...among other remarks he's made. But "first released" doesn't mean it wasn't recorded earlier, and his reply to my question suggests it could have been recorded earlier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm Gaylord Fields:

Thanks, tracy!
  9:26pm Jett:

This band never sang in French?

I can't help but thinking about the song thick as a brick in its entire version!!!...:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm Gaylord Fields:

I appreciate your honor, Little Danny. You didn't block someone else from getting a shirt you aren't eligible for, out of spite. Same to you, Joe!
  9:34pm Dean:

Yes, Dave Miss!
  9:34pm Jett:

It was released in the sixties
Avatar 9:34pm Joe B:

it's my time was never released until 2006
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm Gaylord Fields:

@Jett: They did NOT release "It's My Time" in the '60s, and I never said they were together in this century!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm Little Danny:

I'm just here to showboat, Gaylord!
Avatar 9:35pm Joe B:

wasn't even bootlegged until 2005!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm Uncle Michael:

HEY! YAY!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Gaylord Fields:

"Mynah Bird Hop" was on Columbia Canada — you surely aren't disputing Joe Belock on Neil Young facts!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Little Danny:

It's also a fantastic track!
Avatar 9:36pm Joe B:

jett, maybe you mean mynah bird hop? that came out in 65 but neil young is not on that recording. he wasn't in the band yet
  9:36pm Jett:

The Mynah Birds had a single released on Columbia Canada in the sixties. Not that track but did have a single.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Gaylord Fields:

UM: Stackridge fan club.
  9:37pm pgalub:

Thks Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Uncle Michael:

yessir
  9:37pm Dave Miss:

Joe B Factdown!
  9:38pm Dave Conehead:

Gross
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Gaylord Fields:

@Jett: What in blue blazes does that have to do with the song I chose? Take the L, dude.
Avatar 9:39pm Joe B:

gotta love allen clapp
  9:39pm Jett:

There were test pressings on VIP released in the sixties.
Avatar 9:39pm Joe B:

absolutely false
  9:39pm Dave Miss:

Thanks Gaylord for a great show btw. Joe B, Faye, Dean et al....
  9:40pm Jett:

I know someone that owns a V.I.P. sixties pressing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm Gaylord Fields:

So you mean NOT commercially released, then. Dig up!!!
  9:40pm bigplanetnoise:

Top of the top.
Avatar 9:40pm Joe B:

either a boot or a lie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm Matt Fiveash:

Jett, if you want a WFMU shirt that bad I can send you one of mine, I have a bunch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm Gaylord Fields:

Jett, please chill. This is becoming contentious for no reason.
  9:41pm Jett:

No problem Gaylord
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Little Danny:

Gaylord is spinning the most plates right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm Gaylord Fields:

You played a good game.
  9:42pm Dave Miss:

@Matt Fiveash did you get a skeleton crew shirt?
  9:42pm CC:

Only your hairdresser knows for sure!!!...:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm Matt Fiveash:

@Dave Miss- No
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Gaylord Fields:

I'm so glad we had a fun time with the game — I certainly did! I especially like how one well-asked question can break the whole thing open.
  9:44pm Jett:

I don't need a shirt, just felt that it was very misleading as a 21st Century original release.
  9:45pm Carmichael:

I am sooooo late ....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm listener 126464:

It's on Bob Brainen's 2009 marathon premium cd (unless that was already mentioned).
  9:45pm Dave Miss:

@Matt I designed them as a thank you for Scott and them, and I guess they sold out. Maybe Michele will order some more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Can we get Gaylord up to 50% pledge.wfmu.org...
  9:46pm CC:

Gaylord... you should be ashamed of yourself for playing that song!!!...:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm Matt Fiveash:

Dave Miss- Oh cool! Thanks for doing that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Gaylord Fields:

@Jett: That was my point, to mislead EVERYONE! But I told the truth, as Joe B. can verify. Games are supposed to be hard. You're coming across as a sore loser, and I know that's not the look you want right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Little Danny:

Thanks Gaylord, it was genuinely exciting.
Avatar 9:47pm Joe B:

@DaveMiss - wow awesome. thanks for doing it. hope there will be a second run one day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Gordon FM:

Essex Green?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Gordon FM:

Sounds like Sasha
  9:48pm Dave Miss:

@joe @Matt of course for y’all! Great shows all the way around!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Little Danny:

28th Day is gorgeous and totally new to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Gaylord Fields:

Glad you had fun, LD!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Gaylord Fields:

28th Day is an early band of Barbara Manning.
Avatar 9:49pm Joe B:

there were no 1966 test pressings. even if an acetate got out, with two superstars in the band the stature of James and Young, how does that song not circulate until 6 months before the box set came out? Sorry dude.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm Matt Fiveash:

Jett- OK, would you accept socks? I have some extra. They're not WFMU socks just regular
  9:50pm CC:

Sorry Gaylord I was accidentally on sheena's Jungle stream listening to that Heil Hitler song I apologize!!!...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm Little Danny:

Ooh, wow, I'd assumed the 28th Day was brand new-ish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm Gaylord Fields:

@Matt: Todd Socks or GTFO!
Avatar 9:50pm Joe B:

Young was claiming into the 1980s that he never recorded with the Mynah Birds. then it was, we never finished a recording. then in 2006 it was, oh yeah, that was a cool track,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm Gordon FM:

Oh 28th day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm Gaylord Fields:

@CC: So you were guilty with an explanation this time. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm Uncle Michael:

I have some of Todd's socks. They're not Todd's DJ premium socks. They're socks I stole out of his locker the last time I was at the station. I could part with them.
  9:51pm Jett:

With all due respect @Joe B, I've seen it and had it played for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm spodiodi:

just wanted to say hi Gaylord! wish i caught your show -- looks like it was fun! thank you nonetheless!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm Gaylord Fields:

@spodiodi: Hi!
  9:52pm CC:

I am absolutely totally sorry I love your show!!!...:)
Avatar 9:52pm Joe B:

had to be a bootleg. it did not happen in 1966.
Avatar 9:52pm Joe B:

what year do you claim this happened?
  9:53pm Listener Robert:

Making it misleading was fun, because we knew you'd make it hard, but didn't know HOW. CC, "Lost" was also deliberately misleading, but unlike Gaylord, it didn't tell the truth -- the camera frequently showed things that weren't really happening, like an unreliable narrator.

Soon I'll be going from "Name that tune in my head" to "What's that lump in my bed?" G'night and thanks for the fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm Gaylord Fields:

Thanks, Listener Robert — you get it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm Matt Fiveash:

Thanks, Gaylord, it was wicked fun.
  9:54pm CC:

I usually use two phones one for chatting and one for listening I accidentally had it on the wrong stream I don't know how long...I been drinking a little...:)
  9:55pm Jett:

@Joe B I have it on CD on a some sort of compilation also, but I know that was released much more recently. I remember calling the guy I know when I got the comp and I said someone put your test pressings on a comp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm Gaylord Fields:

Thank you, Matt!
Avatar 9:55pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Is wearing a pair of socks with your own likeness akin to wearing a T-shirt of yourself?
Avatar 9:55pm Joe B:

Neil Young, one of the most bootlegged artists of all time, was in a band with funk superstar Rick James in 1966, and no one bothered to circulate the track from a test pressing for 39 years. Got it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm listener 126464:

I thought that sounded Pooh Sticks-related.
  9:55pm Mike From Brooklyn:

Great show, and thanks for the game @Gaylord. A good time was had by (almost) all. Certainly my me, even though I was always 5 clues behind. Maybe I'll guess right next time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm Uncle Michael:

Only if your socks have a picture of your foot, Todd.
  9:56pm pgalub:

Thks for another great show Gaylord!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm Gaylord Fields:

@Todd-o-phonic Todd: You know that it's just as awesome, if not more so.
  9:56pm bigplanetnoise:

Great show, Gaylord - thank you!
  9:56pm phat:

I tried to laugh about it, hiding thr tears in my eyes...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm Uncle Michael:

Thank you, Gaylord!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm Gaylord Fields:

@pgalub: Thanks for playing, and enjoy the shirt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Gaylord Fields:

@bigplanetnoise: Thanks, and catch you tomorrow! Mynah Birds every week!
  9:57pm Jett:

@Joe B Was it you that said, that for years Neil Young denied recording anything with the Mynah Birds?
  9:57pm CC:

You should talk more, Gaylord... then a person might know where they're at!!!...:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Gaylord Fields:

UM: Anytime!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Chop Scott:

I'm wearing my Todd-O-Phonic socks right now!
  9:57pm Carmichael:

Thanks Gaylord, and I am wearing socks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Gina Bacon:

Thanks, Gaylord! I didn't play, but I really enjoyed listening!! (:
Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Jinx:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Gaylord Fields:

@Jinx: It's so good, yes! Wonder if it would have been a hit if it was released.

@Wendy: <3
  9:59pm Joe R.:

Sorry to steal from another show but damn that Mynah Birds song is such a number one hit (and thanks to Joe B. for playing that a week or so back?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm Gordon FM:

I learned something! Again and again!
  10:00pm Jonny:

Gaylord...it's our time. thank you
