Avatar 10:05am worldsworstrecords:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Jan Turkenburg:

That remains to be seen... He's 19 years old now. I think he sometimes is having a bit of pain when walking up the stairs...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Jan Turkenburg:

But he's seeking company more and more as he gets older.
Avatar 10:08am worldsworstrecords:

what are Sammies... or should't I ask?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Jan Turkenburg:

Hi MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am Jan Turkenburg:

I think Rich isn't aboard yet. He initialy posted on the wrong page yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am WR:

New York City is sunny and slightly cool. A bit of rain yesterday so the sky is clear. Nice to go out but, you know, work....
Avatar 10:13am worldsworstrecords:

A lot of the Jazarimba Orchestra discs seem to be minstrel songs or similar; I think Sammies may have been a version of a word we would no longer use
Avatar 10:13am worldsworstrecords:

Hi David!
Avatar 10:14am worldsworstrecords:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am WR:

This version with orchestra and the Brox Sisters reminds me of the movie, need to search it out and watch it again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am Jan Turkenburg:

The file is tagged 'soundtrack' but I didn't do any further research.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Jan Turkenburg:

CU later, WR!
Avatar 10:40am StringOFperils:

Hi Jan, Darryl, WR, LD2, U1000, good morning! (I think 'Sammies' may refer to happy Sambo-types, as in the literary creation 'Little Black Sambo'. It's probably in 'Golliwog's Cakewalk' territory. )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am Jan Turkenburg:

Hi SOFp!
Avatar 10:42am worldsworstrecords:

Hi SOp... that's what I assumed
Avatar 10:43am StringOFperils:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Mx. Granny (e/em):

i loves me a good whistling/bird call tune! hello, Jan & folx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Granny!!!!
Avatar 11:17am StringOFperils:

I'm imagining Billy and Joe sitting on a perch together inside a giant parrot cage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am Jan Turkenburg:

:-) :-) :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am Mx. Granny (e/em):

StringOFperils: oh, that is a fascinating tidbit about "sammies", thanks. I didn't know what a "golliwog" was for a long time, and, wow, there are a lot of words that need to be acknowledged as coming from a racist POV.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Jan Turkenburg:

Yes... this week I found out that 'coon hunting' isn't necesarrily about hunting racoons... :-(
Avatar 11:22am StringOFperils:

Yes Granny, a lot of things are changing, and a lot of them still have to change a lot more. In the UK, the shortened form of golliwog (the last 3 letters) seems to have been pretty commonly used instead of the N word.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Mx. Granny (e/em):

unfortunately, i found that out from a friend's dad when i was 12. ah! wow, again, StringOFperils, good to know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Mx. Granny (e/em):

wow, that Fritz sure can fiddle!
Avatar 11:26am Feldpausch:

Jan, do you have a rap from 6th grade?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Mx. Granny (e/em):

omgx, you know what!??! I DO HAVE A RAP FROM 6TH GRADE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Mx. Granny (e/em):

sorry for shouting but HARPO!!! <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Jan Turkenburg:

No I have a recording of me playing recorder in church at 7 accompanied by a cousin on harpsichord :-)
Avatar 11:28am Feldpausch:

I know! I love Harpo's character
Avatar 11:28am Feldpausch:

Granny, 6th grade raps are having a resurgence right now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Mx. Granny (e/em):

this is making me so happy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Jan Turkenburg:

I did make a remix of Alina's Rap this morning and it will be played at Primal Ice Cream
Avatar 11:29am Feldpausch:

Jan, would love to hear both. If I donate now consider that my vote
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Mx. Granny (e/em):

Feldpausch: yes! i am loving the Milk Rap remixes, and now i gotta dig up that crazy rap me and my brother did back in 1984!

Avatar 11:48am Feldpausch:

My family pronounces it "Fel-Posh" but it was probably originally in German 'Velt-pawsh'. I have a distant relative who moved to The Netherlands and spells it with a V
