This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Avatar 7:17pm Flash Strap:

FRANC OOOO
Avatar 7:18pm TDK60:

Love the drawings on some of those '50s jazz LP covers, like this Dizzy G. one.
Avatar 7:18pm Flash Strap:

me too TDK

what a gorgeous vocal from Pozo on Tin Tin Deo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Doug Schulkind:

I think I wept the first time I laid hands on this Tumbao box of Chano Pozo recordings. Holy holy.
Avatar 7:23pm Flash Strap:

it's amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Franco Twinkie:

Lately I've been channeling Chano Pozo as I sit at the desk in front screen, and later on the steering wheel, only to resume on the dining room table at my moms house. Why is it so much fun to hit stuff?
Avatar 7:24pm Flash Strap:

stuff=drum
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm listener james from westwood:

Holy shit—NOW I get why that one guy in Blazing Saddles, says, "Mongo! Santa Maria!" That's like a 40-year-old circuit being connected!
Avatar 7:26pm Flash Strap:

bullseye, love when that happens
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Franco Twinkie:

I can't tell you how many times I've beat the crap out of something while listening to Soul Sacrifice by Santana.
Avatar 7:28pm northguineahills:

Haven't heard this Yma Sumac!
Avatar 7:28pm TDK60:

Hola Franco. Cardboard boxes are good, for a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm chresti:

Nice cumbia!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm Franco Twinkie:

iQue onda, TDK?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm chresti:

We used to use oatmeal drums, when we were kids.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm chresti:

We also had bongos, of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Franco Twinkie:

Electro madness.
Avatar 7:37pm Flash Strap:

Hi NGH! I know I felt the same way listening to it the other day
Avatar 7:41pm Flash Strap:

would be cool if he'd done a Soothing Sounds for Baby that included some vocals like this
Avatar 7:41pm TDK60:

Ah, a moment of whimsy amidst all the surrounding direness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm chresti:

Wow, need this whimsy.
Avatar 7:43pm Flash Strap:

incredibly unlikely album to have ever been made, this
Avatar 7:44pm TDK60:

Wow, they teamed up with Moondog?
Avatar 7:45pm Flash Strap:

yeah, i mean, what the hell, that must have been the weirdest scene
Avatar 7:46pm Frog Mover:

Hey y'all! Love this strange combo! Also apparently it's Julie Andrews birthday today too
Avatar 7:47pm Flash Strap:

oh man well happy birthday Julie A
Avatar 7:47pm Flash Strap:

and Hello Frog Mo!
  7:47pm passiflora:

listening and walking across towns in a competition
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Aitch:

I find Julie Andrews very scary
Avatar 7:51pm Flash Strap:

hi Passiflora I hope you win
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Little Danny:

Hi good peeppell
Avatar 7:54pm Flash Strap:

amazing that there's a Mescherin's Orch. medley of Yma Sumac-informed Peruvian themes with a prominent theremin solo where her voice would be
Avatar 7:54pm Flash Strap:

I mean that's the most perfect thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm chresti:

I loved her in Mary Poppins, when I was 6. I'd sing spoonful of sugar walking home from school.
Avatar 7:54pm Flash Strap:

Hi LD!
Avatar 7:55pm Flash Strap:

yeah I love her in Mary Poppins & i think the movie is really good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm Little Danny:

Wow. Is easyUSSR a single-artist compilation? I love this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Aitch:

The goatherd was lonely for a reason
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Little Danny:

Ah I do actually recognize this melody from Yma. I can't put a name to it though.
Avatar 7:57pm Flash Strap:

yeah it's all Mescherin's Orchestra, a totally electronic ensemble that was really huge in the USSR! there's a second volume too... I tried to go right to the source but couldn't find the original release with this track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Little Danny:

Oh wait it's gotta be "Virgin of the Sun God"
Avatar 7:58pm Flash Strap:

She toured the USSR and killed it, just blew everyone away, & then there's this - every part of this medley is straight from one of her classic albums & the theremin is just mimicking her vocal, it's amazing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm Little Danny:

I'm loving it. I'm always looking for non-cheesy synth pop from the '60s, this is incredible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm Little Danny:

There it is!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm Little Danny:

Wow.
Avatar 8:02pm Flash Strap:

her only live album, a major proof against claims that her vocal takes were isolated and manipulated in studio to be a "human theremin"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm Franco Twinkie:

That last bit was sort of Carnival Of Souls on top of the sacrificial pyramid.
Avatar 8:03pm Flash Strap:

totally Franco
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm coelacanth∅:

good evening Evan, Explorers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm Franco Twinkie:

A friend of mine saw her at the county fair in Santa Barbara some time in the early sixties.
Avatar 8:04pm Flash Strap:

and a splendid evening to you Coelacanth
Avatar 8:05pm Flash Strap:

@FT: damn that would have been magic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm Franco Twinkie:

One would think.
Avatar 8:06pm Flash Strap:

oh no was it not?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm Franco Twinkie:

She said it was great.
Avatar 8:09pm Flash Strap:

love to hear it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm melinda:

hi gang
Avatar 8:11pm Flash Strap:

hi Melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Little Danny:

Yes to Tom Recchion, who was also apparently a fan of early F&T
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm chresti:

Tom Recchion!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Franco Twinkie:

Hi Melinda, I you having fall? It's over a hundred degrees here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Little Danny:

Chresti and Franco are friends w/him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Little Danny:

Oof there's Chresti herself.
Avatar 8:12pm Flash Strap:

you turned me on to this LD! what a great use of F&T here
Avatar 8:13pm Flash Strap:

wow very cool he's a true head for sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Little Danny:

I'm glad! And I first heard him via FMU in the mid-aughts. Charlie's show, perhaps.
Avatar 8:14pm Flash Strap:

i love this track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm chresti:

Me too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm chresti:

I just realized we have his organ.
Avatar 8:16pm Flash Strap:

but

he loves that organ
Avatar 8:17pm Flash Strap:

Moon Gas is such a singular masterpiece
Avatar 8:18pm Flash Strap:

all on its own even when considered alongside other "space-age pop" imo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm Little Danny:

It really is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm Franco Twinkie:

Danny, you'll love this: In 1977 Tom and I had a drawing class at Pasadena City College. One day tom brought in a big box of all sorts of percussion instruments and passed them out to the class and just told every body to start making racket. You'd think he passed out bottles of poison the way some people reacted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm Little Danny:

What else is lying around your house, Chresti?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm chresti:

He was moving and needed to get rid of stuff. Franco bought his refrigerator, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Little Danny:

Haha that probably woulda been me Franco. Like a child I don't do very well with unstructured time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Little Danny:

Amazing, chresti. I love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm chresti:

The organ is in Franco's shop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm schmutz:

howdy, floating along the stream and really enjoying! The melody from Yma's K'arawi reminded me of this one youtu.be...
Avatar 8:21pm Flash Strap:

i've been in that kind of drawing class a hundred times Franco, that's the good stuff, i love that
Avatar 8:21pm Flash Strap:

Hiya Schmutz!
Avatar 8:22pm Flash Strap:

Paul Beaver on this Zeet band record, prob on this track playing moog but who knows for sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Franco Twinkie:

Well it was perfect timing. Our refrigerator died on real hot day, and it just happened that Tom was leaving town for awhile and need to get rid of stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm Little Danny:

I like the shared wheezy keyboard sounds tying this Mittoo track to the Zeet Band
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm Little Danny:

Wheezy being a great thing.
Avatar 8:25pm Flash Strap:

me too LD that was my logic for sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm chresti:

Good way to describe it, LD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm Franco Twinkie:

I just looked at the play list. The organ I bought from Tom is the Hammond Piper he used on I Love My Organ. It's in the office at my shop all plugged in an ready to go.
Avatar 8:28pm Flash Strap:

that's a cool organ
Avatar 8:30pm Flash Strap:

this whole Buzon record is so cartoonish
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm Little Danny:

Thanks for identifying the organ, Franco! I guess that's the model that one-person lounge crooners woulda wheeled from motel to motel in the 1970s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm doctorjazz:

Hi Evan!
Avatar 8:31pm Flash Strap:

next song isn't known for its organ but i think it's significant
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm Franco Twinkie:

True Danny! It's real easy for one person to move around.
Avatar 8:31pm Flash Strap:

actually maybe it isn't organ. i like the wacky sound of it though
Avatar 8:32pm TDK60:

I want an organ too, darn.
Avatar 8:32pm Flash Strap:

maybe it is...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Franco Twinkie:

Oh I love this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm melinda:

@Franco it is fall here, yes. Still in the 70s sometimes but leaves are changing nicely.
Avatar 8:41pm still b/p:

Geo-seasonal two cents:
Currently many happy vistas and bust-out shows in Maine foliage. Saw outstanding views further north in the state last weekend and the lookin's good here in southern zone, too, where peak hasn't been reached yet. Tremendous full moon tonight. Would be perfect to be out in the woods.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm schmutz:

electro soviet incan is my new favorite genre of music
Avatar 8:49pm Flash Strap:

Hi B/P!
Avatar 8:49pm Flash Strap:

@schmutz: i need to find more
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm Little Danny:

I'm loving this. Squarely on its own part of the ambient - 20th century - exotica continuum it seems.
Avatar 8:54pm Flash Strap:

totally agree LD
Avatar 8:56pm Flash Strap:

with big synth aspects of course - Tangerine Dream's "jungle" elements, JM Jarre's "Zoolook" esperanto, aspects of French prog too I think, etc.
Avatar 8:56pm TDK60:

Franco y Chresti you need this Hacedor, ahora.
Avatar 8:56pm Flash Strap:

man they do
Avatar 9:01pm TDK60:

This Reyes is transporting.
Avatar 9:04pm Flash Strap:

you really go flying with it, it's an astral travel for sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm chresti:

It's que lindo, TDK60.
Avatar 9:15pm Flash Strap:

this track is insane, i love it
Avatar 9:16pm TDK60:
