Hello, Uncle Michael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Corey:

Evening Gaylord and listeners! Lovely openers. Just what the doctor ordered.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Gaylord Fields:

Good, good evening to you, Chop Scott!
  8:11pm Dean:

Fall '73, I was a freshman in high school. School play was Peer Gynt, and one of the drama teachers, who was directing the play, had the divine inspiration to hire a recently graduated power trio to do the music, rock transcriptions of Grieg's material from Peer Gynt. I had a walk-on, so I spent most of my time backstage with the guys as they delivered the heavy, heavy goods to an incredulous audience of parents. I remember watching a guitar pick melt under the heat of the lamp they used to read the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Gaylord Fields:

And a good Sunday evening to you, steveo. Thanks for the kind words.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Gaylord Fields:

Corey, I'm happy to know I'm in sync with you this evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm Little Danny:

Heya Gaylord, heya peeps
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm Gaylord Fields:

Ahoy there, Little Danny
Avatar 8:15pm northguineahills:

I was in the car, and heard Gaylord playing latter Fahey (I have all of his albums), I pulled a quizizcal dog look, and shouted, "awesome"!

I accidentally left wfmu on in my hotel, it was a welcome sound after having a less then stellar day.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm chresti:

Haha, yikes, hot lamp, Dean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm mariano:

Wow, Dean. I'd have loved seeing that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm Gaylord Fields:

@northguineahills: Welcome, and I just read on another chat board about the recent loss of your friend. I hope I can offer comfort via music.
  8:17pm sugarwolf:

Hello
  8:18pm Dean:

A very fond set of memories of that time, indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm Deborah:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm Gaylord Fields:

Thank you, Deborah — I'm pleased to see you here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Gaylord Fields:

@Uncle Michael: I know what you mean. Her melodies, such as the previous, get me right in that pleasure spot in my brain.
Avatar 8:20pm Bergey:

One of my favorite GBV deep cuts! glad you've also taken the deep dive Gaylord :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm Gaylord Fields:

@Bergey: Good to see you here! I've been going deep into early GBV the past few weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm royvis:

Bergey! aloha... ltns! i just now looked and saw you have a show on the schedule Sunday nights! cool! have only heard you a couple of times, but loved them!
  8:23pm Joe Mulligan:

I thought that sounded like Judee Sill! Gaylord, you do the Lords work of finding the best music for us on Sunday nights
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Little Danny:

Love the ambience of this Frank Ocean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Gaylord Fields:

@northguineahills: I truly am humbled. Thank you for allowing me to take on such a role.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm Gaylord Fields:

Good evening, Mike From Brooklyn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm Gaylord Fields:

Good evening, patrick321.
Avatar 8:24pm Franco Twinkie:

I love this too! It reminds me of The Beach Boys ala Holland/Surf's Up.
Avatar 8:25pm northguineahills:

(jealous of royvis, I could use some vodka, mezcal, scotch, right now).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm Gaylord Fields:

@Joe Mulligan: I'm truly flattered by your lovely words.
Avatar 8:25pm Franco Twinkie:

Gaylord! Starting off with a bang, you are.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm mariano:

Oh wow, Gaylord! "Long, Long, Long" is one of the most underrated Beatles songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm Gaylord Fields:

@Franco Twinkie: Very perceptive of you. Frank Ocean has said he was listening to a lot of Beach Boys and Beatles during the time he was creating Blond.
  8:26pm phat:

Holy cow, it's been a long time since I've listened to Long Long Long and my God...
Avatar 8:27pm Franco Twinkie:

Takes me back, I'll tell you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm Gaylord Fields:

@mariano: My playing this stems for a conversation on another show's chat board where I called this one of my favorite underrated Beatles songs.
  8:27pm yipster:

boa noite
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm mariano:

Great minds, Gaylord ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm Little Danny:

Yet another inspired segue Gaylord.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm royvis:

@northvilleguineahills - that was a lyric from the Guided By Voices song, and I'm drunk on vodka too. My band long ago covered this George Harrison! w/ Scott Williams!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm PaulRobeson1920:

Howd’y ya’ll! Good stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm Gaylord Fields:

Boa noite, yipster
  8:28pm phat:

If anybody needs evidence that George Harrison was every bit the songwriter as Lennon McCartney.
  8:28pm Kellen303:

Perfect vibes for right now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm Gaylord Fields:

@Little Danny: Thanks! The Frank Ocean led me there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm steveo:

Uh take 2
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm Gaylord Fields:

@PaulRobeson1920: Hod do!
  8:28pm Mr C:

Where’s the “When he turns 70 “ song brother ??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm Little Danny:

I'd honestly never heard that Beatles track before.
Avatar 8:29pm Franco Twinkie:

I want to go outside, but this is just to good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm Gaylord Fields:

@Kellen303: Thanks, my friend! Looking forward to your show later tonight!
  8:29pm hidingintrumpsamerica:

hard to heard that song w/o the acoustic strums of revolution immediately following; still glad ya played it.. : - D
  8:29pm phat:

Fits the chilly rain long day of work mood.
Avatar 8:30pm Franco Twinkie:

Where the hell is it raining!?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm Gaylord Fields:

@Mr C: Haha! Not quite there myself, but it's comin' down fast, to quote another White Album track.
  8:30pm phat:

Lincoln , NE
Avatar 8:31pm Franco Twinkie:

Gimmie some.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm Gaylord Fields:

@hidingintrumpsamerica: Thanks! I enjoy finding new contexts for familiar songs.
  8:31pm Dean:

In case anybody was wondering, Tar Of is an anagram of O, Fart.
  8:31pm phat:

The middle of the country is covered in rain.
  8:32pm Mr C:

Like Al Green sang “It Ain’t No Fun For Me”.
Avatar 8:32pm Franco Twinkie:

The linguist speaks!
Avatar 8:32pm TDK60:

Hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm Gaylord Fields:

@phat: It's rain o'clock somewhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Uncle Michael:

raining two hours south of you, phat...off and on all day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Good evening, Gaylord and the Sunday night soirée!
Avatar 8:33pm Franco Twinkie:

Hey TDK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Gaylord Fields:

Hello, TDK60.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Gaylord Fields:

Good evening, Ken From Hyde Park!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm chresti:

Haha Gaylord, rain o'clock.
  8:34pm Dean:

It's raining in my heart.
Avatar 8:34pm Franco Twinkie:

Is that like fuck thirty?
  8:35pm phat:

Long Long Long is also one of those "is it a love song or a gospel?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm Gaylord Fields:

@Little Danny: It's a sleeper George cut — mostly neglected in favor of MacLen songs and George's song about a crying guitar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm chresti:

It's dry o'clock here.
  8:35pm phat:

@Uncle Michael yep. All day. It's been very nice. Are you in KC?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm Uncle Michael:

Topeka
  8:37pm phat:

@Gaylord Fields it's been one of my favorite songs for, well, a long time.
  8:37pm Dean:

By the way, an anagram for "the linguist speaks" is "up the kingliest ass." Just saying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm Wendy del Formaggio:

This Drum & Lace is reminding me of a film soundtrack, and I can't figure out which one. Maybe someone else is having this experience, too.
Avatar 8:37pm northguineahills:

Good news, it's raining here almost all day every day since the summer, also, it's the bad news no flooding yet, but it makes working outside a bit shy of fun (we hadn't had any serious fires since '98, so thankful for that)
  8:37pm phat:

@Uncle Michael ah yes. Closer to 2 hours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm spodiodi:

i dunno which, Wendy, but it appealed to me instantly nonetheless
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm Gaylord Fields:

@phat: It's getting so much more deserved love these days. It's one of my favorite on that album, as well as in the band's catalog of 200+ songs.
  8:38pm Dean:

Many, many songs are rightly overshadowed by George's weepy guitar tune.
Avatar 8:38pm Franco Twinkie:

Keep it going Dean, the night is young.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm PaulRobeson1920:

Doin well, Gaylord thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm spodiodi:

lolol Dean
  8:39pm Dean:

Your night is young, Franco, mine not so much.
Avatar 8:39pm TDK60:

Long3 a long fave. moody, like me a lot.
Avatar 8:40pm northguineahills:

...and as if just on cue, I just got a severe thunderstorm warning on my phone (huge low pressure system coming through.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm Gaylord Fields:

@Wendy: The woman who is Drum & Lace does a lot of film scoring, so you may have very well heard her work as part of a soundtrack.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm Jeezy:

As horrible as the world is right now, It can't be THAT bad if I'm smoking an hash-oil soaked J and drankin' whiskey on a BK rooftop listening to Gaylord!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm PaulRobeson1920:

Frank Ocean recorded Blonde at Electric Lady Studios on W 8th
  8:40pm Dean:

Have you been to that taqueria featured in the LAT recently, Franco & chresti? I *so* wish I were there in SoCal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm Stevel:

Jeezy: Amen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Thank you, Gaylord! I'll look her up.
Avatar 8:41pm Franco Twinkie:

Jeezy, you have it dialed in for sure.
  8:42pm phat:

I'm really digging this set while I lay on my couch and relax from my staring at screens all day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm Gaylord Fields:

Yeah, Jeezy! Good to know you're doing all the mood adjustments to help you get by.
Avatar 8:42pm northguineahills:

drum & lace, my favorite attire for d&b parties....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Okay, nope. I've seen nothing Drum & Lace has scored. Clearly, though, she's influenced by other film music...now I just have to try to remember what that song is bringing to mind. Or not. I can give up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm chresti:

His singing is weepy too, sometimes. I like "Long, Long, Long",, I do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm mb:

Hola Gaylord and folks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm Gaylord Fields:

Wendy, if you do discover what it is, please let us know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm Gaylord Fields:

@mb: ¡Hola!
  8:44pm Mary Marge:

Hey Gaylord and team! Happy Sunday <3
Avatar 8:44pm northguineahills:

EBTG!!! (thanks for keeping me smiling)
Avatar 8:44pm Franco Twinkie:

Dean, are you talking about Mexicali? If so, yes! It's within walking distance of our house, except right now you don't want to walk anywhere, the air is rotten.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm Gaylord Fields:

Hi, Mary Marge! Happy Sunday to you! <3
  8:46pm Dean:

Yes, Franco. Dang. Wanna go there.

"Hultquist is best known for co-composing the soundtrack to The First Monday in May with Ian Hultquist, and for composition and sound design in fashion, film, and media."
  8:46pm phat:

Holy cow, this EBTG. I really need to do a thorough study of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm Gaylord Fields:

@northguineahills: Music truly does has healing properties.
Avatar 8:47pm Franco Twinkie:

It's in an old Derwienerschnitzel.
  8:47pm Dean:

Although music don't make grammar good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm Gaylord Fields:

@phat: The earler pop-jazzy EBTG is definitely worth exploring.
  8:47pm highway:

lost in a sea of scarves...it'll all end up in tears...you pinned your heart on me...Robespierres Velvet Basement is one of the great albums..I'm wearing scarfs for a week in tribute to this great artist...Dave Kusworth...thanks Gaylord...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm Gaylord Fields:

@Franco Twinkie: Now you've got me thinking of The Descendents!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm Gaylord Fields:

@highway: Thank you for the lovely beat poetry once again. I'm snapping my fingers approvingly in your direction.
  8:48pm phat:

@Gaylord Fields Missing is one of my favorite single recordings ever. It's a perfect pop single.
Avatar 8:49pm northguineahills:

@Dean: My grammar sucks even on a good day w/o music.....(yet I somehow got to edit other's academic/scientific reports)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm Gaylord Fields:

@phat: "Missing" was such a well deserved hit single!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm Wendy del Formaggio:

GAYLORD! I got it. It's John Lurie's score to "Stranger Than Paradise."
If you want to see my work, here's how I figured it out: I remembered hearing this music in a movie, but also on Charlie Lewis's marathon premium from a few years ago of film music, called "Another Reel World." So, I went and found the CD and perused the titles, then listened to which ones I thought it was. I got it on the first try.
Avatar 8:50pm northguineahills:

Wendy for the win!
  8:50pm Dean:

My grammar is tenuous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm Gaylord Fields:

"Wendy del Formaggio: Soundtrack Detective" — In Color! A Quinn Martin Production!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm Gaylord Fields:

Actual disclosure of a personal fact: I used to teach an adult-education course in grammar.
Avatar 8:52pm Franco Twinkie:

Dean, I just remembered I have a shrimp taco and part of an al pastor burrito from there in the fridge, but no beer! I must go to the 7-11. Be back in a jot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm Little Danny:

Ah this is gorgeous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Hahaha, thanks, Gaylord!
I learned all of my detective moves from my former career as a cheesemonger. Every day, someone would come in with, "I had this cheese, and I can't remember what it's called, but I want more..."
Oh, and I also learned detective moves from Lt. Columbo, but that sorta goes without saying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm Gaylord Fields:

Thank you, Little Danny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm Little Danny:

And a flawless baton hand-off to America, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm Gaylord Fields:

@Wendy: "Just one more thing, Gaylord..." :)
  8:54pm phat:

@Wendy del Formaggio I learned something similar working in a record store.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@Gaylord: Yeah, I guess I did do that, in a way, didn't I? :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm Gaylord Fields:

@Little Danny: I do enjoy coming up with segues.
  8:55pm Mike From Brooklyn:

That was brilliant @Wendy. And it makes me want to watch Stranger Than Paradise again.
@Gaylord, laying down so much beauty, that we all seem to need right now. Thank you.
  8:55pm phat:

@Gaylord Fields don't make me re-evaluate America. This is actually really nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Corey:

Dig this America tune. One of my first shows from childhood. Followed Sky Sox baseball game in Colorado Springs, CO. Better than horse with no name!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@phat: I am not surprised! I bet you're a human jukebox by now. It's fun to develop skills like that. Fun at parties! And since we're not going to parties these days, fun on the comments board!
  8:57pm phat:

@Mike From Brooklyn @Wendy del Formaggio Criterion are releasing Ghost Dog (have they already?). In celebration I plan to have a Jarmusch marathon. Stranger Than Paradise is a touchstone for me.
  8:58pm phat:

@Gaylord Fields All just slightly odd mood music. Just killing it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Gaylord Fields:

@Corey: It's my mission to show the value of what might be familiar and neglected songs by placing them in a different context. And of their many hits, "Horse" is not a favorite of mine either.
  8:59pm rocco:

like a guy who had a pierced earring in the mid late 70s...only you and your incredible security forces can play America...don't cross the river to you get to your destiny...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm coelacanth∅:

good evening Gaylord and all
  8:59pm Joe R.:

Thanks Gaylord for the perfect Sunday night soundtrack week after week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Gaylord Fields:

@phat: It's safe to say we're in slightly odd moods, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Uncle Michael:

I learned all my detective moves from Jim Rockford. Every time I come back to my house, someone hits me over the head with a large ashtray.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@Mike from Brooklyn: Thank you! I'm a little proud of myself right now. :-)
And I also want to revisit Stranger Than Paradise. Have you seen the Criterion edition? It has some awesome extras, including a short film, "Permanent Vacation," that introduced me to the fabulous song "Up There in Orbit" by Earl Bostic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm Gaylord Fields:

@coelacanth∅: Hi! You're late. (Look at the set list.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@Uncle Michael: Thank you for making me laugh. Clearly, though, you need to move in with Rocky.
Avatar 9:00pm HexFamChan:

Greetings y’all! GAYLORD! Thank you in advance for these dope sounds I’m about to bug on out to! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm Gaylord Fields:

@Joe R.: That means so much to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm Gaylord Fields:

@HexFamChan: Sweet!
  9:01pm phat:

Yes, Odd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm Uncle Michael:

Clearly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02pm Gaylord Fields:

@rocco: I shall not abuse my privileged position.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@phat: I have not seen Ghost Dog. My friend gave me his Criterion password (YAY!) so if their streaming service carries it, I'm so there.
Avatar 9:02pm Joe B:

sounding great Gaylord
  9:02pm Mike From Brooklyn:

@phat, I never managed to see Ghost Dog. Thanks for the heads up. @Gaylord I have not seen the the Criterion edition of Stranger than Paradise. I must now.
I also re-evaluated America recently and they passed. They were the first concert my late (ex)girlfrend saw as a teenager. (Much cooler than my first concert I have to say.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Tome:

wonderful show Gaylord just in now after listening in the car from the great drive home from LI here to Bklyn = hardly any cars on the road ! ,, just settling in at the desk !<>!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Gaylord Fields:

DC5 — the first group to regularly do the soft-loud-soft thing, yes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Little Danny:

Wow at this DC5 track. These are some wild production touches.
  9:03pm Dean:

"Detective moves"--These are ubiquitous features of *so many* workers' experience. The very point of being employed in one post or another: one must know where to look for leads. I'm a librarian. My day ordinarily includes these kinds of projects. They have *nothing* to do with Falk (whom I've met, by the way. Totally cool guy!). They have to do with one's being steeped in the subject, for example, cheese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Gaylord Fields:

Thanks, Joe B!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Little Danny:

Haha totally Gaylord.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm coelacanth∅:

huh, never heard that Gaylord. also i missed a top 5 beatles song, and the first time ever hearing a band of bees on wfmu.
serves me right for my tartiness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Gaylord Fields:

@Tome: That sounds like a rare driving treat (we know why that is, but still).
Avatar 9:04pm TDK60:

The first combo in Tottenham to do that, Gaylord, maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Little Danny:

Say the word "coelacanth" three times in the mirror and he appears behind you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Gaylord Fields:

@TDK60: That's been verified.
  9:05pm phat:

Ghost Dog is in my top films of all time. But I love everything he's done. (Although I've never seen Permanent Vacation!)

Don't get me started on Jarmusch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Tome:

I've knows "relatives" that like the DC5 more that the Beatles but not going there !<>! it was @Gaylord relaxing and great tunes along the way of course !<>!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm coelacanth∅:

dammit who said that?
... i'll be right back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Corey:

@Gaylord Thank you for the context on America (band) and elsewhere!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Gaylord, I totally felt the Bee Gees coming on. Thank you for another psychic DJ moment. <3
  9:06pm Mike From Brooklyn:

@Wendy, sorry that was your comment about the Criterion edition. I was distracted by Gaylord's mic break and the fast moving comments board. Thanks for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Gaylord Fields:

Mike From Brooklyn: "Stranger" is such a sweet film! And America certainly have a few goodies in their catalog.
Avatar 9:06pm TDK60:

Tome: That used to be an issue - in '64.
  9:06pm phat:

I don't have many heroes anymore. Jarmusch and Eno are about it these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Gaylord Fields:

@Wendy: That's what you and I do. <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Uncle Michael:

I would like to be steeped in cheese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@phat: "Permanent Vacation" is a short film, and I think Jarmusch's first, when he was a student. It's probably really hard to find, outside of the Criterion thingy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Tome:

I am sure it was @TDK60 I was only 4 then lolz !<>! but I've only overheard discussions
Avatar 9:07pm Joe B:

is this the most lead guitar playing on a bee gees record? (i guess after in my own time)
  9:07pm Dean:

I was waiting for that response, UM. Really.
  9:07pm taryninstereo:

So happy to be listening to you tonight. Big news: ’m growing a baby girl inside me now and I hope she loves The Bee Gees as much as I do. <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@Mike from Brooklyn: I take no offense, and thank you for correcting the record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Gaylord Fields:

@Tome: They really were considered rivals for about three months before the Stones hit. And Tom Hanks might side with your relatives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm coelacanth∅:

phat i just found out a few days ago that a good friend of ~25 years and i share a hero in Brian Eno
  9:08pm phat:

@Wendy del Formaggio yes. His first student film. Stranger Than Paradise was his final project for NYU, as far as I remember.
  9:08pm Dean:

Congratulations to taryninstereo, due to be a mom. Baby kids are simply wonderful. Spent joyous quality time with my daughter this afternoon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm Gaylord Fields:

@Jo B: We should have gotten Todd to ask Vince Melouney when he had the chance. (And yeah, "In My Own Time" has every Beatles '66 solo all rolled in one!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm Little Danny:

We All Together in the overlap of the Beatles/Bee Gees Venn diagram to my ears.
Avatar 9:10pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Hey! Listening to this with pleasure, though at a "don't annoy the sleeping neighbours" sort of volume level.
Avatar 9:10pm Bergey:

@tayninstereo I hear if you play WFMU for those still in the womb they'll grow up to be super sexy avantgarde Harvard graduates
  9:10pm nana:

the rules are being broken as we speak...You are the King of Pop.......
Avatar 9:10pm Joe B:

I can imagine barry thinking, that's too much soloing - let me overdub strings and drown it out in the mix
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm Tome:

@Gaylord cool!<>! love hearing this ,, I mean at that time the Beatles were like ie . 'everything' ,,not really from like early 60's to late 70's the music was so in a transition ,, from say 1964 to 1968 those 4 years alone are just mind boggling to put it lightly !<>!

@Photocopy Cha Cha 2000: Thanks for staying up way too late and risking your neighborhood goodwill.
  9:12pm taryninstereo:

@Gaylord I’m breaking it on your show! I’m a little over 20 wks. I already bought those cute AF noise canceling headphones for when music happens outdoors again.

As Gaylord and I have discussed previously on this page, the Raspberries are so swoon-worthy. <3

These bittersweet pop tunes put me in the mood of finding that sweet, sweet pain of newfound love again.

@9:06 Wendy del Formaggio: "Permanent Vacation" is not such a short film, 75 minutes in fact, and I managed to find it from a public library (when living in Hamburg, Germany in 2011) as a DVD so it is not rare either - not a masterpiece, but certain elements are there already.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm Gaylord Fields:

@pgalub: I'm always happy when you say hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Tome:

this is great so sinking into my comfy chair now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@Photocopy. I remember it being shorter. Whoops. Also, finding it in Hamburg doesn't mean it's not rare in the USA, so careful with your corrections. And, who called it a masterpiece? That's irrelevant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm coelacanth∅:

did she roll her bloodshot eyes at you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm Gaylord Fields:

@Wendy: Yes, "Robert Quine" and "Beatles ballad" can and do coexist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm mariano:

I daresay you are verging on the Conklinesque here, Gaylord ;)
  9:20pm taryninstereo:

Thanks everyone! @Gaylord I hope to at least bring bae to a record fair when they’re back on. I also ordered a kid’s shirt with my swag this year to start building a stash since I have PLENTY in my size.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Gaylord Fields:

@mariano: That didn't occur to me, as I think I'm just doing me, but yeah, these are Conklin-y pieces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Little Danny:

Legit cosmic, I love this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Gaylord Fields:

@taryninstereo: I hope I get to meet her soon, and to meet you once again. It would be my honor.

I wish I was playin' the maracas in this...
Avatar 9:24pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Gaylord Fields:

A set containing guitarists' tributes to other guitarists might be interesting, such as Leo Kottke's "Little Beaver."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm PaulRobeson1920:

Sounding real good! Most everything I hear on WFMU is new music to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm chresti:

Do you have maracas, TDK60?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Gaylord Fields:

@PaulRobeson1920: We enjoy the open-minded and we aim to serve you.
Avatar 9:25pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@9:19 Wendy del Formaggio: well, I called it a masterpiece - not, ha! Irrelevant, perhaps. But Stranger Than Paradise is a masterpiece in my book, and Permanent Vacation - as its predecessor - is something of a rough draft of things to come. I thought it was not that rare, but maybe in the USA?
Avatar 9:27pm TDK60:

Chresti, not exactly, but some Ghanaian shakers, loud!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@Photocopy: On the last point, you could have asked before doing the 'splaining thing to me. Being 'splained to gets real old real fast.

@Bob: You're safe this week, as far as my going full Conklin is concerned. It's not exactly off the table, if the mood strikes.
Avatar 9:32pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@9:28 Wendy del Formaggio: I'm sorry, what? Was not meant as 'splaining or a 'correction' - just my personal experience.
Avatar 9:32pm TDK60:

Conklin done did a fine show.
  9:33pm ?:

Gaylord Fields - I love this show! And love this going into Avante Ghetto with Jeff Conklin. I just found out it is not on the schedule and I’m heart broken. Do you know why and if it will return?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Uncle Michael:

I have 40 minutes of live GD I'm dying to play, but it's too soon after the four hour dance party. I'm saving it for November.

@mariano -- i was thinking Avant Ghetto vibe too:)
re: Permanent Vacation -- believe it or not, first time i saw that was on PBS/channel 13 in NYC!
re: Stranger Than Paradise -- DEFINITELY a favorite (and *not* just b/c i am Hungarian) -- recently watched with friends who had never seen it (maybe because they are both 10+ years younger than me? and/or were not living in this area in the 80s?) -- what i had NOT ever noticed before was that some of Stranger Than Paradise was filmed here in Hoboken

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Wendy del Formaggio:

@slugluv: Good ol' Channel 13!
Stranger Than Paradise was also filmed partly in Melbourne Beach, Florida, where I spent many happy summers with my Mema when I was a kiddo. Once I learned that (as an adult), things made a little more sense in large ways and small.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm spodiodi:

Jarmusch can do no wrong by me. i like it all, with Down By Law being my fave of his, and one of my faves, period.

... kind of related: mariano, last night you used the phrase "the heart of Saturday night", which triggered Waits nostalgia/love, including the song, and tha aforementioned Jarmusch film \m/
Avatar 9:45pm slugluv1313:

@ Wendy -- so cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Hey Gaylord and all! While dogwalking/listening earlier I had a train of thought that lead me to a horrible scenario where some streaming service would try to replicate this show through an A.I.
