With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers
Big bands and squawkers,
the Stork Club has retained its qualities of decaying elegance and dwindling significance since the late 1950s.

Hi Ike! Agree!
Avatar 1:31pm Wolfgang:

Ike! Yo, I cry!
Avatar 1:31pm spodiodi:

aloha, Ike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Ike:

A bit jealous of expatriates like Storky. You're allowed to leave the country you're in and travel to other places! I'm nervous about even going to Queens. I took the subway to Flushing yesterday but couldn't really enjoy it because I was nervous about the virus. I put extra mask layers on at one point when there were unmasked idiots around me the on train.
Avatar 1:46pm Wolfgang, or Stork - the name keeps chaning itsel:

I wish it were that simple, Ike. It's tricky at the German and the American end right now. Just to visit my family, I would need to quaratine there, and again back here before I could return to work. And I've lost a lotta work so there's that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Ike:

Oh right, I forgot you like to travel to the US to visit *us*. I was thinking selfishly -- like, I'd love to go to Malaysia or Indonesia or South Africa. I assume you could theoretically do that. I cannot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm chresti:

Ike, you can go to Tahiti, I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Ike:

Sorry to hear you've lost work as well, that sucks giant armadillo cojones. I should consider myself lucky....

@chresti, never been much for islands, and I'd be pretty nervous about getting inside a locked flying tube with the recycled air of my fellow countrymen for hours!
Avatar 2:02pm Wolfgang, or Stork - does it matter?:

Yeah, I really worry about y'all more than the folks here. America is just melting down. Sorry you can't travel, Ike. I really hope for change - like November-y change. Please?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm chresti:

Croatia was open, not sure if it still is. My son and his partner have been scoping out places they could escape to if the the orange balloon continues being potus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Ike:

That's true, Croatia sounds like a fantastic place to visit too, based on what little I've heard about it. Wish I could hop in a TARDIS and teleport there. As for November, don't even get me started, I could rant for hours about incompetent, rich nationalist kleptocratic maniacs and all the damage they're doing. It's happening in Brazil, the Philippines, Russia, etc. as well....
Avatar 2:13pm Okay, now it's back to Stork - go figure:

Very good for them, chresti. Germany is doing about as well as any country right now - but who knows?
Avatar 2:15pm spodiodi:

nuts to that pos
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm chresti:

They considered Germany, too, as a place to study, but found the language too daunting.
Avatar 2:19pm Okay, now it's back to Stork - go figure:

chresti: I can't imagine Croatian being any easier, but any language is a big hill to climb. Wouldn't wanna have to learn it at this point in life. All the same, I think it's a lot harder at first, but because of all the connections with English, it really is doable.
Avatar 2:21pm Okay, now it's back to Stork - go figure:

German is doable, I mean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm chresti:

They both studied in France, hence their interest in Tahiti for a minute.
Avatar 2:26pm spodiodi:

not that i learned much of either (and retained even less), but i found german easier than spanish (aside from the definite articles)
Avatar 2:26pm Stork:

If they tackled French, I bet they could nail German.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm fred:

Hello Stork and clubbers. I'm late, I felt I had to watch the show of young composers from work

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm fred:

@spodiodi: I liked some, disliked some. Par for the course. It wasn't live, recorded almost two months ago, but the good side to that is a closer look at the musicians technique, and the sound is good. Frustrating for them not to have an audience, but it should be a nice addition to their resume

I love bad guy Bogart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm doctorjazz:

Later Shepp albums have a wonderful, deep tenor sound and approach, but this is a but of a surprise, being from 1963 (was it before he became a fire breathing player?)

Anybody know the name of that Bogart movie, so I can sleep tonight? His plan was to shoot the president as his motorcade drove by the window.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm doctorjazz:

Ahhh, there's the Archie I expect, just peeking through.
Avatar 3:09pm Stork:

I think it was, DrJ. It's interesting how Gullen (baritone) and Shepp play off each other here - really seamlessly. It sounds like one guy, but it's two.
