With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Ike:

I sang on the Stork Club back in '98, said the oldster.
  12:07pm kpx:

hello stork.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm YETI BOB:

Hi David! @Rtintera: Singer Howard Devoto was a founding member of Buzzcocks but left early on and formed this band, which never got quite as big.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Rtintera:

@yeti ohhhhh, i love the buzzcocks so that makes sense.
Avatar 12:08pm Stork:

Yes you did, Krys O. !!- with R. Stevie Moore, it was, yes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm patrick321:

Stopped by to see Pseu but I'm sticking around for The Stork Club.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Krys O.:

Right, Stork. Exactement.
  12:09pm David in London:

Stork, you’ve started on a very British roll today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm PMD:

@Ike, late 90's, but mostly 7SD. I think. I have no memory..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm steveo:

Ooh, it's lunchtime for me, I could go for a British roll
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Doug in JC:

Hey Steveo, check out this map some time cycle.travel...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Webhamster Henry:

Der Storch ist zu Hause!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Krys O.:

@Rtintera: Magazine also included the great John McGeoch and Barry Adamson. Definitely worth checking out their albums. Oh, and Devoto and Shelley recorded an album together in 2001 called Buzzkunst.
  12:11pm David in London:

Yeti Bob, a bap in the south, a barm cake in the north.
Avatar 12:11pm Stork:

wendy!! Hey hey!! British rolls are indeed flaky and fine!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Ike:

@PMD, ah! I definitely understand no memory. I remember WFMU, cats, a few restaurants, a few significant others, and a little music. Everything else in my past is a blur.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm steveo:

that's a cool site, Doug; now i want to bike to my mom's house in Delaware
Avatar 12:12pm Stork:

Thanks, David in JC!! Will do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm patrick321:

@YETI BOB I have a 12-inch Devoto solo recoding called Rainy Season that is quite a good tune should have been an early 80s club hit (but wasn't :(

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm YETI BOB:

@D(iL): I've only ever been to London in the UK so my knowledge of British English is a bit limited. Someday I'd like to travel some more & fill in some of the gaps. Someday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Krys O.:

Ooh, that was Chaka Khan sangin'.
  12:17pm David in London:

Yeti Bob, most southerners here have rarely, if ever, been to the north. But I think everyone should go to Liverpool at least once in a lifetime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm adampsyche:

can you keep this show in the rotation pls
  12:17pm Rick A.:

I'm not sure you knowingly did this. However, the Stephen Bishop song is from the same St. Etienne compilation as the Bobbie Gentry song which Trouble played earlier. If it was not intentional, it is uncanny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm steveo:

@ike newark/wilmington area

anybody know a good place to hammock camp near Trenton?
  12:19pm Rick A.:

The Hall and Oates song is from the same compilation. So this must be intentional. Stork is feeling very L.A. today!
Avatar 12:20pm Stork:

Nice of you, adampsyche!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm steveo:

maybe pseu will let me use her back yard
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm YETI BOB:

  12:24pm David in London:

Yeti Bob, yeah, Dublin is an amazing city. I need to revisit it myself at some stage. Maybe I’ll meet you there for a pint of Guinness or six.
  12:24pm Frank Zaatar:

  12:25pm Morphe’:

TMI: first time out to FMU in the East Orange house with Arnan of 6-7 years.. 1992-1993?? pre Greasy Kids stuff...searching for a kids’ format?? Stork was asleep on the sitting room couch scratching his sack.... It was love at first sight '!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm mariano:

Hey Stork, Crew, everyone.
  12:27pm Rick A.:

I am fascinated by L.A. sixties pop. So the comp intrigued me. The lineup is filled with the classic California soft rock of my youth. I listend to far too much Boz Scaggs when I was a kid. It's too bad Steve Miller is not on the comp. He would complete the circle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Krys O.:

@Morphe': Arnan? I was a Greasy fan.
Avatar 12:27pm Stork:

Frank, steveo, Granny, Morphe! Crowd on in!!

@PMD, I don't know if you saw my thanks to you for your compliment to me on what i think was feelings. I've done some amateur poems scattered around on different fmu shows. and you put the bug in my ear about making that description into a poem to post on shrunken planet or moonlight sonata.
Avatar 12:33pm Stork:

Hi kpx, mrdonutsu!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Granny - Oh dear, I don't think I'm allowed to handle pointy sticks. Guess I'll have to fashion out a net from old T-shirts.
Avatar 12:34pm DannyBoyNYC:

Hey there David in London, I don't know if you remember me telling you about when I watch a video about someone walking around on the London streets and alleys. but later on I found out it was in the Soho section of London. would you say that is one of the most interesting parts of London.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm lukavino:

i should have been seeing Pet Shop Boys this month!
Avatar 12:51pm Stork:

Oh, that's really sad, lukavino!

Arnan does the Emergency Broadcast System Test :
  12:51pm Rick A.:

The Utopia track is another one found on the St. Etienne comp. I feel like my home is getting woozy and shaky and I'm being transported to La Brea Blvd. in 1975!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm lukavino:

it’s a drag, but hopefully the reschedule to next year holds.
Avatar 12:52pm Stork:

Rick A. - that was actually a coincidence, but I spotted it on the comp.
  12:52pm rich:

hi pstork
morphe you really have fond memories of that moment?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm royvis:

Great to have you back, Stork, even if only one day!
  1:00pm kpx:

Hi Ami ad, morphe, Yeti Bob thanks again for the cherry blossom clinic correction yesterday.
  1:00pm David in London:

kpx. Soho has always been the ‘bohemian’ part of central London. It always used to be rather dark and edgy, early rock and roll, Italian-influenced mod culture, film industry, porn cinemas, but post 80s it’s been considerably cleaned-up and gentrified. Still good to walk around and revel in though. Fitzrovia, to the north, is also very interesting and aesthetically appealing.
Avatar 1:02pm Stork:

rich - you're in a position to elborate on morphe's story. Plaease don't. Some publicity is actually bad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Hughie Considine:

@Duke, ah, I see now. Will be great to have Bob back. I tried to get into the kids' music show but could never quite do it.
Avatar 1:05pm Stork:

Hi kpx - thanks. Yeah, my regular gig is The Stork Club on the Give the Drummer Radio stream - Sundays at noon, Eastern.
  1:11pm morphe':

Arnan - yeah Arnan had a "special" voice m with independent views too... he got picked up for some commercial acting gigs from an agent who heard him talking from some aisles away in the supermarket.. he also got hate speech from some 7 sec listeners who hated his voice???????????
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Hughie Considine:

Poor old Johnnie Ray...

I used to work in Fitzrovia. I remember seeing the building owned by Guy Ritchie that was being squatted there when I went for my interview

Simon(9) [my lovely Spanish Accident] is Arnan's 1/2 bro and quite different yet awfully similar: argumentative, fussy about food, rigid about which veggies go where on the plate, goes on strike if you violate his self determined rules of rules and order, but super lovely and smart and kind - to everyone except me.... When I worked in a place called Peapack, NJ, in the 90s, I could get WPRB no problem, but I had to put the end of my dipole (wire) antenna inside of a sliced-open potato in order to pick up WFMU. And it worked. Though the potato would dry out and shrivel up after a while and I had to replace it w/a fresh one occasionally. True story.

My dad used to tune into WFMU in the mid-1980s. He was in Westchester County near the CT border. I showed him how to lean the radio antenna against a window screen in the guest bedroom to boost the signal. That's how I listened when I was home from college. I first listened to WFMU in 1981 in my dorm room which was two floors above the WFMU studios.

I started listening in the 70s under the influence of my older brothers. We loved finding this crazy alternative to WPLJ and WPIX. So many WFMU stories I could tell. Visited the East Orange house a few times. Listened to hours of Irwin, Alan Watts, Subgenius, etc that really had a huge influence on my young and growing brain! Pseu is a hard act to follow when it comes to the pop. It was a great challenge.

Before my workload draws me away again, I must thank you, Stork for taking care of our ears and brains during this fill-in. It was awesome to hear you again! Cheers!

My 96 year old father in law lives with us now(gott in Himmel) the other day I told him I was listening to The Stork Club and I got quite the history
Thank you something he could relate to

I was damaged by Fred Lane's "French Toast Man" at young age.
  2:44pm David in London:

Yeti Bob, that would make me very happy. I’m going out soon to meet my friend Tony, who shares the same birthday as me. We traditionally have a drink together the next day. Sadly I have to miss Fabio, but even he must take a back seat to ‘Whispering Tony’.

Fred Lane will hurt you bad, brainiac.
