winston, man, don't even. Beer prices in stores in my neighborhood have gone nuts. $12 for a sixer of Yuengling! $14-$15 for anything even vaguely "craft" like Sam Adams. Anything actually craft, $16-$18. Totally insane. I stick with $12 12-packs of PBR and spend money on good cider.

Bass is often fobbed off as the simplest position - hold the beat & root note & support us - but by that token must negotiate both the Rhythm Section & the Melodic/Harmonic territory...

I'd say my partner, Kate, trained first as a singer and on piano before she started playing bass, takes a lead stance with it often rather than playing a "line" -- but her band shares the mix pretty equitably.

And I wasn't sure if we were including jazz bassists in this .. if so: Dave Holland, Ron Carter, and Charlie Mingus, to name a few. Charlie Haden, Cecil McBee, and Jimmy Garrison to name a few more. And let's not forget Ray Brown and Paul Chambers .... These guys were all band leaders and bassists.
