Avatar 11:40am Sean in Bristol UK:

Good afternoon Irene, hello one and all
Avatar 11:59am βrian:

Popping in over the transom. Good afternoon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm listener james from westwood:

Ahh, nice musical dive into the program. How do, Irene and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Good morning (-ish), Irene!
  12:01pm Listener Robert:

I hope that's a brick road or courtyard, because you know you can't play that thing mounted on a wall.
Avatar 12:01pm βrian:

I hear a chipmunk metronome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm listener james from westwood:

βrian: I had two friends who worked in an old Jersey City office bldg. (in Exchange Place, no less!) that had old-style glass doors, transoms, and MAIL CHUTES. I was in bliss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm YETI BOB:

Oh wow --- this is my first time checking out any of the parallel-universe WFMU streams. The concept always seemed odd to me ... but then I found out Irene Trudel has a show here !!! Hi Irene! I've been listening to you on WFMU for a long time & I'm so glad you have a show here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm doctorjazz:

Just for finished with the Duck Baker show you linked to Saturday (that was fantastic!), now back to the real time show, nice!
And, hi all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm listener james from westwood:

@YETI BOB: Oh, you're in for a treat in the whole Drummer Stream galaxy of shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Irene Trudel:

Good afternoon, Sean, βrian, james, Summer and Michael and Sylvia, Robert, Yeti Bob and doctorjazz. Wow, the gang's all here!
  12:04pm Listener Robert:

Bruce Zaccanino's Northlandz in Flemington also has a collection of antique radios.
Avatar 12:04pm βrian:

Given Irene's salty language, I expect she's more at home here, anyway ...
  12:05pm Listener Robert:

I know what you mean about the concept, Yeti: an alternative to the alternative??!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm YETI BOB:

@drjazz: Joe McGasko just gave us a double dose of Duck Baker on his show this morning.
Avatar 12:12pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Really tardy of me Irene but I missed Saturday's show, thank goodness for archive and download options
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm YETI BOB:

(it turned out that "Plymouth Rock" and "Pecan Rock" were exactly the same song, to Joe and everyone's surprise)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm doctorjazz:

@Yeti Bob-that's amazing, while I was catching up with his old appearance with Irene, Joe was playing him.
I still haven't checked out much on the other streams (aside from The Drummer Stream). I do like Ranking Full stop on the Rock n Soul Stream, not had a chance to check out much else. That's the trouble with all these streams-you have to stop doing anything else in life (including keeping up with my record collection, not to mention family, work) to keep up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm doctorjazz:

The link to the old Duck Baker show (copied from Saturday's show)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

Hello Irene, thank you for these sounds. Andhello WFMU pals near and far!
Avatar 12:19pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Wonderful music Irene the best antidote to a stressful day, a run in in with a neighbour, "You can't park there, etc, etc" Drone, drone and drone. The world has gone down the crapper and issues about where I park, get a life. Rant over, let the positive vibes of your wonderful music sense wash all over me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks for the link doctorjazz. There'll be a small dose of Mr. Duck a little later in the program. Hey Mx. Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm YETI BOB:

@drjazz: Exactly. I live in Chicago so I try to keep up a bit with some of the non-profit stations here, to stay in touch with the local community. And then there's WFMU which I've been listening to for something like 40 years now - I grew up in NJ, started listening as a teenager, can't imagine going through a day without it. And my record collection, and random tracks that my friends send me... So I really don't have a lot of extra time/attention for the side streams. But now that I know Irene has a show on Mondays, I'll be tuning in - 3 Chord Monte is a fine show but this is more my groove here.
Avatar 12:26pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

just logging in! Hello and Thank You, Irene!!
Hello, listeners :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Mx. Granny (e/em):

YETI BOB: i sometimes wish i had several heads and sets of ears so i could listen to all of the streams
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm YETI BOB:

@Irene: Wasn't that the record that was issued in a sandpaper sleeve, so it would scratch up anything next to it on the shelf? (Durutti Column I mean)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Thank you! x
Avatar 12:31pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Bonjour Sylvia, comment ca va?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Irene Trudel:

Yeti Bob, you're thinking of Christian Marklay the experimental turntablist. The Durutti Column was Guitarist Vini Reilly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Irene Trudel:

You're welcome, Summer and Michael and Sylvia, and Sylvia(France-NYC)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm YETI BOB:

@Irene: I know Christian Marclay... but I'm really thinking of Vini Reilly on Factory Records. It seems a bit of a disconnect between the mellowness of his music and the "abrasiveness" (sorry) of this arty prank, but they really did it. Influenced by the Situationsts I believe. daily.redbullmusicacademy.com...
Avatar 12:34pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Sean in Bristol UK Bonjour ! ça va bien, merci, et toi ?
  12:34pm Dean:

Durutti Column, too, had a sandpaper cover: https://daily.redbullmusicacademy.com/2014/04/return-of-the-durutti-column-feature
Avatar 12:35pm βrian:

I saw Steve Tibbets at Les Foufounes Électriques in Montreal way back when. A great show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm YETI BOB:

"The Sandpaper Cover of The Return of the Durutti Column". It was only the first pressing, and I'll bet these copies are collectible/valuable! (Later it was re-released in a more "normal") sleeve. zoviet*france did some similar things but I think Durutti Column went there first.
Avatar 12:36pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@βrian Les Foufounes électriques?! oh my, that's quite a name in French!! :D
Avatar 12:37pm βrian:

It is, indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Irene Trudel:

Oh wow, didn't know about that Durutti Column one. I wonder if one inspired the other.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm YETI BOB:

According to Discogs: "First released in January 1980 in a sandpaper sleeve, inspired by Situationist Guy Debord's book 'Mémoires', which was housed in a sandpaper cover to destroy other books on the shelf. The sandpaper sleeve was assembled by members of Joy Division, A Certain Ratio, and others. "
  12:40pm Dean:

Marclay released a record without a cover called Record Without a Cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Irene Trudel:

βrian, I've only seen Steve Tibbetts once, and that was in a show with Ani Choying Drolma and his percussionist Marc Anderson. A really beautiful show, as you might imagine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm YETI BOB:

@Dean: That would be great on the shelf right next to the sandpaper one!
Avatar 12:40pm βrian:

Should've been called Steal This Cover.
Avatar 12:41pm TDK60:

Hello, just back from the post office.
Avatar 12:41pm βrian:

[Too late!]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm YETI BOB:

I'm not finding a Christian Marclay record with a sandpaper cover. It sounds like something he would do, but I can't find it.
  12:43pm ?:

Sylvia, je suis très bien, un per fatigue!
  12:44pm Dean:

One wonders how the media condition of copies for sale on discogs would be rated. Mint? Always mint, no matter how bad the condition?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Irene Trudel:

Dean corrected me, Yeti Bob. It was called Record Without a Cover, which I mixed up with the other. (Hi Dean!)
Avatar 12:45pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Sylvia, I was trying to say 'a little tired', I think that was not correct grammar
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm YETI BOB:

@Irene: Sure, I understand. I thought maybe Marclay had done a sandpaper cover too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Irene Trudel:

Hey TDK60! How goes our troubled postal service?
Avatar 12:46pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

@Sean in Bristol UK a little tired= un peu fatigué
Avatar 12:49pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Merci, Sylvia
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm YETI BOB:

"The Feederz’s American hardcore album Ever Feel Like Killing Your Boss? also had a sandpaper cover, and in 2009 Danish punk band Dansk Fløde ‎brought the idea to its logical conclusion by making a sleeve with sandpaper on the outside and the inside. In fact, we could do a separate list of records with sandpaper sleeves." - www.electronicbeats.net...
Avatar 12:50pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

you're welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm redkayak:

Good afternoon all :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Irene Trudel:

Hey redkayak!
  12:51pm Dean:

Then there's Yasunao Tone's Solo for Wounded CD.

And a buddy of mine did an alternate-holes mix of Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street"--"Analog assemblage using LP with four drilled off-center spindle holes; synched using quarter inch tape four-track."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm redkayak:

@Irene - Ahoy captain - - just paddling through. I'll try not to create a wake ;)
Avatar 12:55pm northguineahills:

Son of Terry!
Avatar 12:56pm Sean in Bristol UK:

A set of sheer beauty, the music cascading over a waterfall of majestic quality
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Irene Trudel:

northguineahills, indeed! Gyan is a really great guitarist and composer as well.
Avatar 12:59pm TDK60:

It was busy, Irene. Save the post office!
Avatar 1:03pm northguineahills:

digging this Mark O'Connor. A bit clean, but working for me....
Avatar 1:04pm Sean in Bristol UK:

This word has been banded about in awhile but is this awesome group of listeners "The Trukeepers'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Michael 98145:

i am old enough to have seen a very young Mark O'Connor at fiddle festivals
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm YETI BOB:

@Sean: "Irenians" maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Michael 98145:

heh
Avatar 1:05pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Violin playing of the top most
Avatar 1:05pm TDK60:

Hello Sean; was it you who recently moved back to Bristol?
Avatar 1:09pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@TDK60, I am sure we have been in touch in the past, trying to break ties with Bristol, many, many positives but chomping at the bit fair the quiet life, 60 next month and city life has its perks but a rural location is beckoning!
Avatar 1:10pm TDK60:

Oh Sean, you're ready to leave. Hee. I think there's another UK commenter who just moved back. (I was there two years ago.)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Michael 98145:

i bought a Creem rental, but we've been too busy doing nothing to watch it yet
Avatar 1:14pm northguineahills:

I was curious, I had no idea who was Danny Fields. Thanks....
Avatar 1:14pm TDK60:

The National Association of Letter Carriers and the American Postal Workers Union sites have items on saving the P.O.
Avatar 1:14pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Jeez, my typing! Wan ted to reach out Irene but tried to rent the Creem doc but as I am not in the US I can't purchase, I'm sure there is a way around
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Michael 98145:

( I hate witnessing the Orc Horde attempting to dismantle OUR country )
rant off
  1:20pm Listener Robert:

Aw, poor boaty-boat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm YETI BOB:

this Shirley Collins song just made me shiver ... what a fabulous voice
Avatar 1:23pm TDK60:

I missed Creem back in those days and can't even remember why.
  1:25pm Stork:

Hi Irene and all aboard!
  1:29pm Listener Robert:

Did the rest of you just lose the brown-eyed girl song to silence?
  1:29pm Listener Robert:

Must've been at my end. I restarted it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Irene Trudel:

Greetings, Stork! TDK60, I discovered Creem back in the early days of Punk/New Wave when Rolling Stone's coverage of that music was fairly slim. Great, irreverent magazine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm YETI BOB:

@Robert: It did get glitchy for a second.
Avatar 1:31pm johnc:

Listener Robert: I lost it too, but restarted and now it's playing again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Irene Trudel:

Weird! Usually my internet is fairly strong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

It's hard to pick a fav Van Morrison tune but this is def up there. And Ana! We saw her open for 'FMU's own Laura Cantrell a decade or so ago. Love!
Avatar 1:35pm Sean in Bristol UK:

John Martyn, thank you, Irene, lucky enough to see him in Bristol and Cambridge in the late eighties, early nineties, sadly missed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Irene Trudel:

That tune by Dick Conette and Friends is a medley/arrangement of Van Morrison's Brown Eyed Girl and Sweet Thing, so I was also momentarily confused hearing it.
  1:37pm Stork:

Nice song to accompany the summer rain falling on our parched continent of Europe. Sun trying to shine in the west, darkened sky elsewhere.
Avatar 1:37pm Sean in Bristol UK:

David Crosby, yes, Miss Trudel, spanking botty!!
Avatar 1:40pm northguineahills:

Will be listening in the car. Gotta check into the office! Thanks Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Both good, Irene! But it was "Sweet Thing" we were (mostly) quite viscerally responding to. "Tupelo Honey", with its chorus of "she's an angel", always gets us, too... x
Avatar 1:49pm uuee:

Good afternoon, Irene and Friends! Just got in, ahh.. Monday. Perfect.
  1:58pm Stork:

Is that Threadgill on soprano?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm YETI BOB:

My cat really seems to be enjoying this Antonio Sanchez tune.
  1:58pm Stork:

Hi, uuee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm YETI BOB:

@stork: This is not Threadgill's group "Air". en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Irene Trudel:

Nope, Stork. That was probably Dave Binney on alto. (Donny McCaslin also played tenor on that Sanchez album.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Irene Trudel:

Hi uuee!
  2:02pm Stork:

Thanks, Yeti Bob. Boy was I off! I saw Air on my phone and mistook it for the group name. I thoght, „this is the oddest Threadgill i‘ve ever heard.“

Nope, can‘t avoid reading glasses anymore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Webhamster Henry:

This set is so Irene-y!
